November 25, 2017 10 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Clear, sunny and 44 degrees in Johnsburg. There is a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. A beautiful morning for late November, much nicer than the weatherman predicted. Still talking about colder with snow showers this evening, I’ll see how things go before I decide to camp another night or go home.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 47 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees above normal. Southwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain and mist in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 2004. 21.8 inches of snow fell back in 1971.

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. Sun doesn’t set much earlier than today.   At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 43 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before 10pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 10pm and midnight, then a slight chance of snow showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, we had patches of fog and mist in the evening with a few breaks in clouds by early morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1938.

Today is definitely a nice morning. A bit cool with a heavy frost but when the sun rose over the horizon line it was quite nice. Warmed up quickly with lots of sun. I really like this campsite on NY 8 that I found, although admittedly it is a bit noisy from NY 8 like most of the campsites up here. But at least I don’t have to worry about getting stuck, or dealing with bad weather beyond getting out driveway and I brought a snowshovel specifically for that purpose.

I haven’t decided about my plans for tonight. I will take down camp today but I’m thinking of heading up to Mason Lake and maybe hiking along that new trail to Indian Lake that overlooks Snowy Mountain. I wouldn’t mind camping here another night but without the solar panel on my truck yet, I really need to drive at least 30 minutes to bring the batteries back up to charge.

Made eggs with sliced turkey, mozzarella and pepperoni for breakfast. Kind of like the pizza I had for dinner. Not a bad breakfast and it seems like things are warming up quickly. I think I should think about taking down camp in a little bit. Well have a good day.

There is one month until Christmas when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm. The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.
