November 25, 2016 6 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Buy Nothing Day aka Black Friday. I know I’m not perfect hoity toity liberal but I have to pick up the laptop I bought yesterday to replace my dead on. Going to be a another dreary but not so cold day. As we start out our day, it’s cloudy and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The skies will clear Sunday around 8 pm. Just in time for the work week.

Today will have a slight chance of drizzle before noon, then a slight chance of light rain after noon. Cloudy, with a high of 46 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal. South wind 3 to 6 mph. A change from the cold weather of recent.  Chance of precipitation is 20%. Last year, mostly sunny with a high around 47. The record high of 64 was set in 2004. There was 21.8 inches of snow back in 1971.

The sun will rise this morning around 7:00 am. The sun will set at 4:25 pm with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 23 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 1 minute and 37 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 5am, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 35 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. One year ago, partly cloudy with a low around 31. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1938. I believe that is the first recorded below zero of the winter season in Albany.

There is a month until Christmas when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 5:00 pm. The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895. I’m a bit surprised we didn’t break that record last year, because we were close.

Today in 1999, a 5-year-old Cuban boy, Elian Gonzalez, is rescued by fishermen while floating in an inner tube off the Florida coast.

So today’s priorities are pick up the laptop and get it set up. Maybe once it’s running make some updates to the blog. Weather looks nice enough that I might go to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a walk. Tomorrow I’m meeting my sister and parents for dinner at their house, I might go out to North-South Lake and Kaaterskill Falls for snowshoeing. Maybe wash my truck on Sunday and possibly walk the rail trail in Delmar. I got to get my new registration sticker on the truck.

Next weekend looks good for camping at this point, maybe along NY 8 in the Adirondacks. Big game hunters will be largely gone so I can go out in the field for small game.  We will see but I it might be nice in the Adirondacks especially if some of the snow has melted.

Well, I’m going to get up and get some breakfast soon. Have a great Black Friday, don’t get shot or beat up at the shopping mall if you’re mentally ill enough to warrant going to such a location. Enjoy the nicer weather even if it’s not expected to be real sunny.
