May 8, 2017 9 AM Update

Not a terrible morning, with weather conditions mostly cloudy but for a while some nice blue skies. Forty four degrees here in the city now. It won’t get much warmer than this, maybe 51 degrees later with clouds and showers. I wore the heavy overcoat to work today which may be over kill but so be it.

It was actually quite nice sleeping in the truck with the blankets it felt plenty warm. I liked how much sun was streaming in the windows come morning. While it was pretty cool so I didn’t need it, the fan worked perfectly when I turned it on. I’ve certainly camped in much cooler weather.

The sun will set at 8:04 pm with dusk around 8:35 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for cloudy and damp conditions and 44 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before 2am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a low of 34 degrees at 3am. 11 degrees below normal. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 39 degrees with mostly sunny skies. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1956.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Memorial Day when the sun will be setting at 8:24 pm with dusk at 8:58 pm. On that day in 2016, we had thunderstorm, rain, mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 89 and 68 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1931.

I’m undecided about the plans for next weekend but I will continue watching the forecast. I’m hoping it will steadily approve as the week progresses. It’s a bit hard to know but more recent models show it improving if not a bit cool. I’m leaning towards the Southern Adirondacks and maybe go hiking back to a lake on Saturday.
