May 7, 2017 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is Mother’s Day. Mostly cloudy and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south-southwest breeze at 10 mph. The skies will clear Wednesday around 6 am. But only partially sunny with more rain for next weekend.

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Otherwise cloudy, with a high of 54 degrees at 2pm. 13 degrees below normal. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Cold enough that I should probably close the windows. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had shallow fog, patches of fog and a high of 66 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1930. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967. We might get that much snow on Tuesday night again.

With all the rain we’ve been getting lately I was noticing things are a bit musty downstairs. I’m going to get a sponge and hit the walls and cabinets with some concentrated bleach, especially where I’m noticing a bit of mildew popping up. I have the windows open to vent things out now.

I think my eyes are feeling better this afternoon and they aren’t too red, but I’m holding off on the contact lenses for now. Once I take a shower, I’ll put them back in. I think I must have gotten something in my eyes to irritate them but they are better now. Better to happen on a rainy weekend, although I wish I could have gotten a few more casts in and maybe hiked around the preserve next to Glenmont Job Corps.

The sun will set at 8:03 pm with dusk around 8:34 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for cloudy conditions and 49 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over yesterday.

I need to get to the store today to buy some soap, as the bar of soap I’ve been using is getting increasingly fragmented, along with returning the battery core, and some cheese for lunch sandwiches. Other than that I’m pretty good for food.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 7pm. Cloudy, with a low of 38 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal. West wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 45 degrees with periods of rain and mist. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1968.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Mother’s Day when the sun will be setting at 8:10 pm with dusk at 8:42 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, shallow fog and temperatures between 73 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 69 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1900.

I have some new maps to post for next week. Fixed some new bugs on the blog and have news content to add through the week.

Eventually this bad weather will be done and warmer, nice spring weather will return…
