May 10, 2017 9 AM Update

After many cold and gray days, the sun has shown up again. The blue skies are nice with temperatures around 45 degrees on our way up to 58 degrees. That’s still about 10 degrees below normal but after we get through the rainy Mother’s Day Weekend we are expected to warm up once again with more sunny weather.

The sun will set at 8:06 pm with dusk around 8:38 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly cloudy conditions and 55 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 12 seconds over yesterday.

I discovered that I had no cooking oil or spray for making waffles this morning. So much for the waffles although I made them up with melted butter instead but they came out kind of greasy. Maybe I can stop at Hannaford on the way home. I thought I had everything I needed but I guess I didn’t. Fortunately there is a grocery store on the bus ride home, and heck maybe I could even get it at Stewarts just down to buildings from mine. Or even hop in Big Red and drive five minutes to a grocery store. We’ll see. I’d hate to make another trip.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2016, it got down to 40 degrees with mostly sunny skies. The record low of 29 occurred back in 2010.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is Pack Rat Day when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:46 pm. On that day in 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 66 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1977.

Pack Rat day happens after May 15th, so you can then legally have a bonfire bigger than a campfire but smaller than the four foot bullshit in the Pete Grannis’ regulations. I guess it’s good for cleaning up your junk as long as you don’t burn too many tires or things that piss off your obnoxious tree hugging neighbors.

Memorial Day Weekend is now a little over 16 days away — two weeks from Friday.Β I am really hoping for some nice weather for that weekendΒ — especially after all the cold and wet lately. So far the long range predictions look good, with the 8-14 day outlook showing warm weather (through at least May 23rd), but things are still a long ways off. I think camping in Vermont this year will be a lot of fun. Holding off for the long Independence Day Weekend for a trip up to Moose River Plains — I might get a camping permit so I can legally camp in the same site for all four nights.

Have a Great Day! Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. And be aware that spring time will once again come, someday soon.
