March 7, 2017 9 AM Update

Drizzle and dampΒ this morning. Not exactly the nicest morning but it’s 37 degrees on our way up to 46 degrees later. Not a lot of sun is expected today but it will be mild. I’ve camped out on plenty of days like this in the past and I can assure you that it is not fun.Β Maybe we’ll get a half inch of rain before this evening. More rain and even warmer tomorrow. Very cold next weekend, sunny like last weekend but with cold that is even more bone chilling than last weekend. Just think of all the miles I’m saving on my truck.

The sun will set at 5:53 pm with dusk around 6:21 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 34 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. 18 degrees above normal. Maximum wind chill around 40 at 6am; South wind 8 to 11 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 32 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The record low of -2 occurred back in 1989.

Back in 1965, it wasΒ Bloody Sunday: a group of 600 civil rights marchers is brutally attacked by state and local police in Selma, Alabama. We may live in angry, awful times with a buffoon for president but at least things aren’t as violent, police are more restrained, and civil rights are better protected today.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Spring when the sun will be setting at 7:09 pm with dusk at 7:37 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2016, we had snow and temperatures between 46 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1921.

Last night when I got home from and work, I read for about an hour, had a chicken paddy, angel hair pasta and a big bowl of peas. Always trying to eat more vegetables, so I can make it 50 without a heart attack somewhere in the wilderness and become coyote food. Retired to bed around nine as I was super tired. I did get a good night’s sleep with the curtains drawn and the Internet shut off my phone so it was quiet all night. Woke up a little before seven but it was kind of gray. Hopefully I won’t be so tired come the end of the day.

I’m thinking about getting a Belgium waffle maker and making my own waffles. I’m thinking they’re not that hard to make compared to tossing frozen waffles in the oven. You can get cheap frozen waffles and they’re not overpackaged but still fresh would be better. I guess it’s more washing to rinse out the measuring cup and I’d have to micro zap the frozen fruit but I could see this working. I know some people also make eggs in waffle makers and put toppings on them too. It’s an idea for sure I’m going to study and think about in the coming days. I don’t think I could use it at camp but I know there are cast iron ones for camp use. That said, I don’t know, as I don’t really need to own more stuff. I really have too much stuff already. They aren’t expensive but they are stuff and I question if I really need it.
