March 6, 2017 Evening

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 39 degrees in City of Albany. There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. Still feels like winter. The good news is that calendar winter is coming to a conclusion in a little over 13 days and 5 hours. The skies will clear Wednesday around 5 am.

Not a terrible day, for the most part quiet, and without running from crisis to crisis. I like days like that, especially when it’s going home time. Each Monday gets us closer to summer weather. And next week at the time, the sun will be setting after 7 PM. The long range looks cold and sunny though,

Tonight will have a chance of light rain, mainly after 2am. Cloudy, with a low of 34 degrees at 8pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum wind chill around 31 at 6pm; South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 31 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 62% illuminated. The moon will set around 3:12 am. I doubt you’ll see it through the clouds. The Full β€œWorm” Moon is on Sunday night with mostly cloudy skies expected. The sun will rise at 6:20 am with the first light at 5:52 am, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 12 hours and 26 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have light rain likely before 10am, then rain likely, mainly between 10am and 3pm. Cloudy, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees above normal. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had rain and a high of 52 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 10.3 inches of snow fell back in 1967.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 13 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 27. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 31. Typical average high for the weekend is 42 degrees. I don’t think I’ll be doing much wiring if that remains the forecast come the end of the week.

In four weeks on April 3 the sun will be setting at 7:24 pm (Daylight Savings Time), which is one hour, 32 minutes and 31 seconds later then today. In 2016 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 38 and 24 degrees. Yuck. Let’s not think such negative thoughts. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. The record high of 79 degrees was set back in 1981.

Looking ahead, Patriots Day is in 6 weeks, May Day is in 8 weeks, Memorial Day is in 12 weeks and Election Day 2018 is in 20 months. I can’t wait until Memorial Day Weekend, but I’m not yet ready for Election Day 2018 and all that entails. But I do think it will be a good year for the Democrats.
