Good morning! It’s Daylight Savings Time. I hope you remembered to set your clicks ahead on this chilly morning. Almost ten now.  Mostly sunny and 10 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 11 mph. The current wind chill is -5. I got to bundle up and run to the store shortly so I can make breakfast. 

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high of 23 degrees at 3pm. 20 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph. Cold but not as cold as yesterday. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies and a high of 62 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2012. 30.4 inches of snow fell back in 1888. 

The sun will set at 6:59 pm with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one hour, one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday. No with the start of Daylight Savings Time, you don’t physically get another hour of daylight. 

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 10 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 5 at 2am; Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph. In 2016, it got down to 42 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1885.

Today in 1933, was the first of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats. On this very cold morning, I wouldn’t mind sitting by a fireplace all morning long. Today also holds the record for the snowest day ever in Albany, with nearly 31 inches of snow falling during the 24 hour period back in 1888. We might get a lot of snow come Tuesday but nothing like that. 

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Palm Sunday when the sun will be setting at 7:31 pm with dusk at 8:00 pm. On that day in 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 46 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1991.
