March 1, 2017 Morning

Good morning! March in Trump’s America. Sixty days have expired in 2017. Two weeks to Ides of March.Β Twenty until calendar spring. OvercastΒ and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. Really too warm for my wool overcoat but rain is expected later and I want to keep my overcoat dry. There is a south breeze at 10 mph. The dew point is 50 degrees. The skies will clear around 6 pm. Might be a good evening for tailgate drinking and looking up at the sky for all the stars.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Cloudy, with a record breaking high of 64 degrees at 4pm. 26 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 1pm. Not a big wash out but cloudy and mild. Southwest wind 10 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had rain and a high of 38 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1991. 10.7 inches of snow fell back in 2005.

The sun will set at 5:46 pm with dusk around 6:14 pm, which is 1 minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 17 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and thunderstorms likely before 3am, then a slight chance of rain between 3am and 4am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal. Breezy, with a southwest wind 16 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, it got down to 20 degrees with periods of rain and snow. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1940.

Today marks 231 years since the adoption of the Articles of Confederation that were never formally repealedΒ pursuant to the procedures in themΒ but are basically ignored since the passage of the constitution. There were many problems with that document but it helped to limit the scope and size of the federal government.

Also in 1873,Β E. Remington and Sons in Ilion, New York begins production of the first practical typewriter.Β One year before then,Β Yellowstone National Park is established as the world’s first national park. And in 1893,Β  Electrical engineer Nikola Tesla gives the first public demonstration of radio in St. Louis, Missouri.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Ides of March when the sun will be setting at 7:02 pm with dusk at 7:30 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2016, we had cloudy skies and temperatures between 58 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 44 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 1989. Should be a nice day for those friendly people in the black sedans with pictures, candy, and lovable things. I mean, I don’t know how else you can celebrate the Ides of March except playing that record.
