June 4, 2017 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a southeast breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 54 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 11 pm. The rain has stopped and I’m sitting out back listening to the spring peepers.

Today wasn’t the best weather wise but I had some stuff to do around the apartment and to get shopping so it wasn’t the end of the world. Weather forecast isn’t the best right now for the weekend but I’ll take it one day at a time. First I have to get through the work week. That said on the whole, it was a productive weekend and it was beautiful up on Harvey Mountain. Those pink flowers smelled so wonderful.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low of 54 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 9pm. Southeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, it got down to 64 degrees with rain and fog and mist and cloudy skies. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1990.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 73% illuminated. The moon will set around 3:58 am. The Full β€œStrawberry” Moon is on Friday night with mostly cloudy skies expected. The sun will rise at 5:18 am with the first light at 4:44 am, which is 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 8 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high of 64 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 57 at 12pm. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had rain, fog, mist, cloudy skies and a high of 71 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 61 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees. That forecast is better than some.

I’m still hoping to get up to Pisceo Powley Road next weekend. It all depends on the weather. I wouldn’t mind the potholers but I think there might be a ton of water coming over them. Or if the weather is bad, other plans can be made.

I got the switch and the light bulb for under seat light I’m setting up, so things won’t be so dark back there when looking for things under the seat while camping. I was going to hook it all up tonight but I didn’t want to do it in the dark and I wanted to heat shrink all the connections properly for safety.

I’m hoping to get the colored lights for the truck cap wired up this week. Hopefully they’ll be nice and bright. It all depends on my work schedule for sure. Certainly not essential for camping next weekend but they would be cool.

In four weeks on July 2 the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm, which is 7 minutes and 23 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 76 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 60 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1966.

I got to call the DEC this week to get my camping permit for Moose River Plains for the four nights during the Independence Day Weekend. I probably don’t have to get a permit but to be lawful in one campsite I should get one. Maybe good old 56, my favorite campsite up in the woods. But they’re I won’t be able to show off my colorful lights to passers by and it’s less remote then some of the other sites.

As it’s now June, sparkling devices like fountains and sparklers are on sale again in New York, although I haven’t seen them yet locally. I have probably too many sparklers but I would like get some more fountains to light off around the holiday weekend. One of these times when I’m in Pennsylvania, I’ll have to use my out of state NY license to buy some of the real thing, aerial fireworks. They’re illegal for Pennsylvania retailers to sell to residents without a local permit or but they can sell them to anyone out of state, as long as they show proof of non residency. Follow the law, don’t give the government a reason to cause trouble. Or move to a free state where fireworks are legal.

Looking ahead, Father’s Day is in 2 weeks, Independence Day is a month away,  Buck Moon is in 5 weeks, National Cheese Cake Day is in 8 weeks, Labor Day is in 3 months, 7 PM Sunset is in 15 weeks, 6:30 PM Sunset is in 4 months, Average High is 60 is in 19 weeks, Beaver Moon is in 5 months, Daylight Savings Time Ends is in 22 weeks, Cold Moon is in 26 weeks and New Years Eve is in 30 weeks.

Lately I’ve not been getting enough sleep, so I’m off to bed now.
