June 14, 2017 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear with ample stars and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 6 mph. The dew point is 49 degrees. Much cooler evening then many in recent evenings. Sitting out back listening to the spring peepers. A deer grunting rather startled me.

It was a pretty long day at work but not too bad. Just a lot of things going on at the end of the legislative session. Caribbean Night had a lot of good food, which was good because my lunch was covered with mold from bread that went bad. So I eat my dinner for lunch.

Left work at nine, got home on the bus at 9:30, watched parts of the PBS News Hour out back but for the most part I was pretty disinterested in the whole news tonight. Really was a lot of news coverage about absolutely nothing of substance. No commentary or political analysis of days events either. I guess there wasn’t any news worth talking about.

Really, most of tonight’s news was pure fluff.  I don’t really care about some obscure congressman getting shot or politicians who represent the ghettos demanding more gun control. The story on Clean Coal was about as fiction as one normally is on clean coal. Coal is a dirty nasty fuel, even if you don’t believe in the knowledge gained from science or even that very real thing known as climate change. I wish they had spent more time discussing the interest rate hike and how that will effect nearly every American in one way or the other. Economics really doesn’t get the coverage it deserves compared to the gore on the news. And I just wish our president wasn’t such a buffoon. We are all victims of history and choosing Trump over Clinton.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 49 at 10pm. North wind around 6 mph. In 2016, it got down to 51 degrees with partly cloudy skies. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1985.

Waning Gibbous Moon tonight with 64% illuminated. The moon will rise around 11:04 pm. The Last Quarter Moon is on Saturday night with chance of showers expected. The Full β€œBuck” Moon is on Sunday, July 9th. The sun will rise at 5:16 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is one second later than yesterday. Tonight will have 8 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny, with a high of 77 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 2pm. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Should be another nice day but more clouds come in the evening.  A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies and a high of 83 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1988.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 68 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

Besides the Gas Up on Saturday, I’m going to stick in town this weekend. Maybe get a haircut and do some cleaning and getting ready for future weekends camping. My hair has gotten way too shaggy for my liking. It’s no fun being out in the woods on gray, humid and buggy days. I’d rather save my money for good weather our camping.

In four weeks on July 12 the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm, which is 2 minutes and 6 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had patches of fog, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 86 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1935.

Looking ahead, Summer is Next Wednesday, National Nude Day is a month away, Last Day with Average High of 80 is in 10 weeks, Harvest Moon is in 12 weeks, 6:30 PM Sunset is in 16 weeks, Average High is 40 is in 5 months, Coldest Day of Year (Avg. 14-30 degrees) is in 30 weeks and Inaugeration Day 2021 is in 188 weeks.
