January 8, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Everybody seems more interested in my post that notes the positive aspects of Donald Trump’s messaging then that hilarious Claude Gray song How Fast Them Trucks Will Go. I guess that trucker country doesn’t give people the rise in their pants that politics give them. Maybe people need to spend more time hanging out at truck stops to get an education. I do love all the CB equipment and 12 volt stuff you can get at those Pilot truck stops. It’s like a toy store for big boys.

We have another rather cold and gray day on tap today with the mercury omly expected to reach 22. Right now it’s only 15 degrees in Delmar. There is a west breeze at 9 mph. The skies will clear around 7 pm.

With the breeze today, watch out for lake effect snow bands. While they may only drop an inch of snow, they could lead to white out conditions and an inch of slick snow on the roads.

Today is going to remain cold and cloudy. A full 10 degrees below normal. But the real story is the wind. Northwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.YUCK!

I think my expectations of doing anything outdoors has lowered. Later on though I will probably walk down to the library and then drive to the store and recycling dumpsters at the park and ride. Then Sunday dinner at my parents house. Hopefully we won’t have many white outs this afternoon. And my oh my, how fast those trucks can go.

A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies and a high of 41 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 2008. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1923.

The sun will set at 4:40 pm with dusk around 5:11 pm, which is 1 minutes and 3 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 15 minutes of daylight, an increase of 1 minute and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low of 7 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal. Wind chill values as low as -3. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph becoming light west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. No evening walk tonight I guess. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 38 degrees under cloudy skies. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1968.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until My 34th Birthday when the sun will be setting at 5:06 pm with dusk at 5:36 pm. On that day in 2016, we had snow and temperatures between 38 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 back in 2002.
