January 16, 2017 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar. Calm breeze. Finally got the Christmas lights out of my truck and hung up in my apartment. Christmas was only like three weeks ago. I see no reason to necessarily only celebrate it during the officially designated time of the year especially when the end of January is so bleak. And heck, my birthday is in two weeks.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 26 degrees at 3am. 12 degrees above normal. West wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2016, it got down to 28 degrees with periods of snow. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1971.

Hiked at Thacher Park today to High Point, Hang Glider Cliff and a secret overlook. Icy in some places hiking out there. Drove back through Knox on Pleasant Valley Road and Switz Kill Road. Took some nice pictures and while it was kind of gray, also captured some of the landscape on my dash cam and will be sharing it over the week. The pictures and videos are all ready to go live for next week.

Waning Gibbous Moon tonight with 68% illuminated. It has risen but with the clouds you ain’t going to see it. The Last Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with mostly cloudy skies expected. The Full β€œSnow” Moon is on Saturday, February 11th. The sun will rise at 7:22 am with the first light at 6:51 am, which is 32 seconds earlier then yesterday. Tonight will have 14 hours and 31 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 1 minutes and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow and sleet likely before 2pm, then rain and sleet likely between 2pm and 4pm, then rain after 4pm. High of 34 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Enough to make the roads slick and sidewalks icy. If it’s too slick, I’ll wear my hunting boots to work. They look nice with my new blazer. A year ago, we had snow and a high of 34 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1889. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 1994.

While it is sad that the long weekend is all but over next weekend might be even nicer then this weekend weather wise. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 39. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 39.Typical average high for the weekend is 30 degrees. I guess Trump is instructing the weather gods to be good.

In four weeks on February 13 the sun will be setting at 5:26 pm, which is 36 minutes later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 20 and -9 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 34 and 17 degrees. The record high of 58 degrees was set back in 1900.

Looking ahead, Presidents Day is in 5 weeks, Spring is in 9 weeks, Average High is 50 is in 10 weeks, Easter is in 3 months, Tax Day is in 13 weeks, Average High is 70 is in 4 months and Independence Day is in 24 weeks.

Good night. Sleep well. It may be icy when you awake tomorrow so plan accordingly.
