March 21, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Today is the first full day of spring. Next Thursday the Average High is 50 ๓ž€ฎ Mostly cloudy skies and 38 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Nice morning walking down to the Park and Ride. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Definitely seems like the weather has moderated a bit and the walk to the express bus was pleasant. ๐ŸšThe bus was on time. Hit some traffic going into city on the old 787 but I really don’t have that many complaints. I’m not driving. Kind of gray though for sure. I thought the news on NPR ๐Ÿ“ฐ was kind of depressing ๐Ÿ˜” but what bleeds leads. I guess. I think the democratic party ๐ŸŽ‰ is shooting itself in the foot ๐Ÿ‘ฃfor 2020 but that’s to be seen.

Lately I’ve had very few complaints about the bus service ๐Ÿš, the buses are nearly always on time โŒš it close to it. The real time bus info has gotten better in recent years as drivers properly key ๐Ÿ”‘ in the block numbers ๐Ÿ”ข into the buses and the radio GPS units work better. Transit information โ„น in Google Maps ๐ŸŒ has gotten better in recent years.

Definitely nice not having to wear a suit and tie to work today. ๐Ÿ‘”I could walk down to the express bus ๐Ÿšถ and it’s a lot more comfortable and more myself than the alternative. It just makes for a much more relaxing day and easier to walk during my lunch hour.

Today will rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 46 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1921. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1905.โ„

The sun will set at 7:09 pm with dusk around 7:37 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 35 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 3rd. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will rain and snow, becoming all rain after 9am. ๐ŸŒง High of 42 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 16th. West wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2012. 7.0 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

I thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about turning off the heat ๐Ÿ”ฅ in my apartment but it still gets fairly cold at night and the start of the weekend is expected to be pretty cold. But soon I should be able kill it for the year, well until November most likely. Looking forward to the fresh air in the morning and also getting out, camping, traveling and exploring again.

As I noted yesterday, the Pine Bush Dinner was fascinating but depressing last night. ๐Ÿ’ฅThere are so many dangers out there in the world ๐ŸŒ, especially impacting people of color and the poor. And there are no good solutions but to do everything you can to avoid getting into those situations – social class isn’t as guaranteed as one might imagine.๐Ÿ˜ฉ Maybe I should live more of a high consumption life for today but I see so many scary storm clouds in the distance tomorrow. โ˜ At least the lasagna was really good and I could take a bunch home to reheat for lunch. ๐Ÿฒ

I sat out back for a while when I got home last night. ๐ŸŒ• The full worm moon was nice although I didn’t stay out back for long as with the breeze it wasn’t that warm. It’s still March. By the pink moon next month I’ll probably be able to sit out back for longer and enjoy the night ๐ŸŒƒ. Inside it was a very comfortable 62 degrees for sleeping. I just wish it was a bit warmer to enjoy the fresh air with the windows open.

Ever since I retired my Facebook account more and more people are talking about missing it. ๐Ÿ’ป I don’t know if I’m now popping up in people’s feeds more now that I’ve stopped posting there or people are just noticing my absence. That said I really enjoy not being bombarded with so much news ๐Ÿ“ฐ and memes, and so much divisiveness. I like the solitude that is my blog. If I see something worth sharing on Facebook I can always embed it in the blog – a venue that is free of advertising – and I control the placement of content.

The bathroom sink was plugged again yesterday but I poured in some drain cleaner and it’s moving again. ๐Ÿšฟ Plumbing has always been problematic in my apartment, I always keep a plunger handy for the bath tub and drain cleaner for the sink. Part of living in an affordable apartment is not everything is perfect.

It looks like like Sunday will be the best weather for the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of snow before 8am, then a chance of snow showers between 8am and 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a northwest wind 22 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 54. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees.

People where asking if I was thinking about going camping this weekend โ›บ, which would be more of a possibility now that my niece’s birthday party is postponed ๐ŸŽ‚, as she has a cold. But I’ll think I’ll wait and save the money until it’s a bit warmer. I might go to John’s house on Saturday ๐Ÿ“ƒ or maybe a hike out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐ŸŒฒand Sunday do a bigger hike somewhere there isn’t much snow. I’d like to get up to the Adirondacks to camp but I’m waiting for the snow to go up along NY 8 East Branch before I head up that way. ๐Ÿ—ป

This autumn I’m still considering my options for a fall trip.๐ŸWest Virginia sounds appealing as does the national forest in Southern Ohio, although the later is a lot longer trip. ๐ŸŒŽI do like the Monongahela National Forest a lot, and I could see spending more time around Dolly Sods and the Cannan Mountain. ๐Ÿ—ป On the other hand I kind of want to spend some time poking around Western NY, it’s been a while since I’ve spent much time out there.

Looking ahead, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 4 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is a month away, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 8 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 15 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 19 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 5 months, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 6 months and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 28 weeks.

Go Down

January 17, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday! โ›ช Kind of a cloudy gray morning. โ˜Four weeks to Valentines Day โค๏ธ . Clouds with a few snow showers and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a west-southwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I slept horribly last night ๐Ÿคช mainly because I watch a movie about Napster, the RIAA and the craziness that was the 1990s, tying myself up in a knot with the sheets my mid-evening. ๐Ÿ› I remember why I don’t have Internet at home and why I don’t like politics or things technology that much anymore. ๐Ÿ’ป Sure I do mapping and I have my computer that runs Linux, but I only use Open Source software, a very basic window manager — XFCE — and aren’t into all that commercial technology crap. ๐ŸŒMy smartphone is super basic, I think the only paid app on it is US Topo Maps which I use sometimes for hiking and was all of $6 back in the day.๐Ÿ“ฑ

Then I woke up at 4 AM with a toe that was beat red and swollen, ๐Ÿ‘ฃ with a great deal of pain. I’m not that much of a girly man but it was — super painful and swollen. Wasn’t sure what the issue was but it probably was my fault for not putting on fresh shocks before bed. I thought maybe I had an overgrown toe nail — I tried to find my toe nail clippers half awake but gave up. Once I took off my socks, and applied some anti-bacterial foot-spray the pain went away. I think it was just athlete’s foot because I didn’t change my socks being home all day yesterday. I am going to shower ๐Ÿšฟ today, then soak my foot and apply athlete’s foot cream around it. I did find the clippers and clipped the nail back on the toe in case that was the issue but I don’t think it is.๐Ÿ’‡

Then somebody knocked on my door at 9:45 AM, ๐Ÿšช not sure who it was but I super groggy and not in the mood to answer the door. Often I won’t answer the door if I don’t know who it is, just because I’m a bit paranoid and I figure if it’s important, they can text me, leave me a note, or give me a call and do voicemail. ๐Ÿ“ž I am really careful about screening my calls, lest it be a television reporter, a police officer, or anybody unpleasant to speak to like the 90% of all communications these days — SPAM artists.๐Ÿ—‘ Yes, you can stop sending me emails about guest posts on the blog. They don’t exist here. This is my personal blog, so it’s 100% Andy Arthur for good or bad. I am thinking it was the neighbor asking about the power bill I stuck in their mailbox — I think it might have been for the previous tenant. ๐Ÿ“ฌ I probably should have just written return to sender on it and stuck it in my mailbox, but the address was for the neighbor. Or stuck it in the paper trash. โ™ป

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers, mixing with rain after 10am, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 38 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 26th. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1889. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

I wanted to go out to Five Rivers but with me still somewhat sore toe, ๐Ÿ‘ฃ the clouds and wind I’m not sure if today is the day. โ˜But I’ll bundle up later and do my evening walk. Maybe stay home and do some reading. ๐Ÿ“š I don’t think the toe issues is a big deal, but it was so awful for that hour or so last night when I was up in terrible pain. ๐Ÿ™„ I certainly pay enough for health insurance that if I need to slap down $25 get my toe checked, I’ll do it but I’m hopeful it good by later. I do need to order more books from the library – not difficult to do especially with the drive-through. Now that I have that hotspot mode on my phone, it’s particularly to browse for books online. ๐Ÿ’ป That said, I do miss walking down to the library and look forward to getting the cost of the more expensive phone plan off my books once things re-open.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 26.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:06 pm with the sun in the southwest (235ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 5:20 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (206ยฐ) at an altitude of 38ยฐ from the horizon, 247,838 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:56 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 45 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1957.

I’ve been trying to get Microsoft Windows running on my laptop ๐Ÿ–ฅ as I need it for work. I want to purge a lot of the spamwear on the machine and try to speed up windows.

Been doing some carpet cleaning with rubbing alcohol ๐Ÿงน which actually is quite effective after a suggestion I saw on the internet. But it does stink pand is probably toxic and very flammable. It does work great with a brush though, although I really do need to at some point get a carpet cleaning machine in here or something like that. I probably shouldn’t track so much mud in my apartment. That said, like everything in my inexpensive apartment, the carpet is starting to wear out.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 62 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ Cue Day by Day from the Godspell sound track. It’s going to get cold by the end of the month but at least we are creeping towards the days with higher sun angle. In four weeks, the average temperature will be 4 degrees above freezing and March won’t be that far around the corner. My meteorologist friend likes to point on Meteorological Spring happens on March 1st. I am just disappointed that I will have to wait until July 1st for the official climate normals to come out for the 1991-2020 period — I’m really fascinated to find out.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:26 pm with dusk at 5:55 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 36 and 7 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.

February 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday โ›ช ! Three weeks to March 🌨. Cloudy and 14 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. 🌡๏ธ

It’s a cold and overcast morning but I’m hopeful it will warm up soon and I’m thinking it might be a decent day. Maybe more clouds than I’d like but so be it. Later on I’m thinking about hiking at Schodack Island before running to the store 🏬 and maybe washing the truck. 🛀 More sun โ˜€ expected by afternoon and temperatures above freezing.

Today will have isolated snow showers between 8am and noon. Mostly cloudy โ›…, with a high of 34 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 11th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 1925. 13.7 inches of snow fell back in 1906.โ„

At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 33 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

The solar panel did a nice job at topping off the batteries 🔋 after leaving my truck parked for a week. 🅿 Started real easy yesterday. I am very happy how the system is working on the truck now, I just gotta wait for camping season โ›บ when there are long days and lots of sun.

I wrote a nice little CDTA bus real time mapping app but I want to test it more and set up caching before I make it public. 🚍Really fast too, I was surprised. I really like it and my concern is that if I make it public it could become too popular and use a lot of Google Maps API calls and I’d have to pay for overage fees. Buts it’s definitely good for my personal use now. 🌐

Tonight will snow, mainly after 1am. โ„ Before then cloudy 🌨, with a low of 30 degrees at 8pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. South wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Might make a bit of a nuisance for the Monday commute but I don’t know. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

🌹🌻🌼Only 39 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

That’s certainly less than 40 days. โ˜บ Always funny how when we get to the second week of March it seems like spring is coming quicker. I thought for sure that we would get a real arctic blast come February but besides a cool start to this morning this doesn’t seem the case.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until March 🌨 when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:13 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 39 and 14 degrees. That will be nice. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2017. I think that was the year I went camping at Burnt Rossman Hills State Forest in March. Pretty cool well actually warm.

Another View of Tower

February 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It’s above freezing by a little bit in Albany 💦 so the roads are just wet and salty. I cleaned off my truck of the inch of snow and ice as I think it’s going to turn to snow tomorrow followed by a hard freeze Saturday and I didn’t want things to freeze up on my truck. Things were a little icy on the truck but the warmer temperatures this evening made for relatively easy scraping.

The primary business of the evening was going to the Rick Sieves film showing 🎥 at the library than I came home rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a bit and read 📖 mote of the Almost President book. My neighbor works night shift tonight so no concerns with bothering him with the noise of the bike. Time for bed soon with lights out.

Tonight will rain likely before 1am, then showers likely after 1am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 9pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 1st. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1995.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 93% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the southeast (137ยฐ) at an altitude of 66ยฐ from the horizon, some 234,266 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 2nd. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:36 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:06 am in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:46 am with sun in the east-southeast (118ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 31 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain before 2pm, then rain and snow between 2pm and 3pm, then snow likely after 3pm. 🌦 High of 36 degrees at 10am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. Breezy, with a light and variable wind becoming northwest 17 to 22 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. I think tomorrow’s commute home could be very icy and a slog but at least I don’t have to drive in it and can just play on my phone 📱. I might take the local into work tomorrow if it’s raining hard in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light freezing rain by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 48 was set in 2005. 12.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

I am pretty sure I can do some neat things with the automatic bus locator feed I posted earlier. 🚍 While I doubt I’ll mess too much with Google maps – although I certainly could, I do think that I could do a lot with it client side Javascript and making a simple but fast index of the location of all the buses on a route for checking on one’s phones and maybe also tracking the electric buses. Looks like the weekend forecast continues to slide downhill – I could still go to that Adirondack Outdoors show but at this point I don’t know for sure. 🎣 It’s a long drive for a relatively small show. I also want to do some soldering projects and practice especially once I get hat flux pen.

In four weeks on March 5 the sun will be setting in the west (263ยฐ) at 5:50 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had cold, mostly sunny and temperatures between 28 and 7 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 71 degrees was set back in 1964.

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 2 weeks and Flower Moon 🌕 is in 13 weeks.

🇺🇸🦅Only 15 weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸

Dip in Road

April 20, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. The rain is done for the remainder of the weekend but not much sun is expected. The skies will clear Thursday around 5 am. It is what it is.

Today was a pretty rainy day โ˜” until around the three o’clock hour. Then it started to clear out. I went down to the library for a while uploaded some content I’ve been working on for the blog. While today has been a pretty wet day – my downstairs floors are all quite damp – it been pretty mild and I’ve been enjoying the fresh air. ๐Ÿ’ฆHopefully though it will dry out soon or I’m going to have get some bleach down to fight the certain mildew.

Today is 420 day and while I don’t smoke pot for the most part, I’ve playing with the GRASS functions in QGIS. ๐ŸŒŽ I’m too cheap and too broke after saving to buy marijuana much less alcohol but I sure like open source software. ๐Ÿ”“ Even once it’s legal in a few months. The GRASS system ๐ŸŒพ is really powerful but has a steep learning curve, although now that’s integrated into QGIS its easy once you learn the functions to call. The next thing is to figure out how to script it. My interest lately has been doing more advanced things with the digital elevation models data and simplify it enough to use with Google Maps. ๐ŸŒ

The sun will set at 7:43 pm with dusk around 8:13 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 14 mph.

I thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about going to the grocery store today and maybe to get some epoxy but I will hold off on that for a while I think. I’m going to have to but groceries mid week for camping, so why make two trips with my fossil fuel burner.๐Ÿš™ I almost thought about hiking down to the Normans Kill Gorge to see all the water raging but it’s already getting late and with the skies being fairly cloudy its going to get dark early๐Ÿ˜•. Maybe that’s where I will hike on Easter Sunday.

Other things on my bucket list for today ๐Ÿ“ƒ are to load my camping gear into the truck and work on soldering together the other sign module I have. Lately I’ve not been working on as many electronics projects probably because I’ve been spending so much time on either the excerise bike ๐Ÿšฒ or working on mapping things and other coding projects.๐ŸŒ

I finally got the cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ holder I ordered from China in March. For a $1.90 it’s pretty solid unit that fits very snuggly to the vent of my truck. The old one I had was falling apart after I dropped it a while back. I think the old one it was ten dollars at Wal-Mart, came in ten times more packaging. Ali Express for certain things like simple electronics is really great if you are willing to wait.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. South wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 91% illuminated with the moon rising at 9:15 pm. The moon will set at 7:42 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 6:05 am with the first light at 5:35 am, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after 10am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 68 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 10th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 7am. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. .6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

In four weeks on May 18 the sun will be setting at 8:14 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 47 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 48 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 1 week, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 4 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 6 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 2 months, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 9 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 12 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 3 months, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 22 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 21 months.

Oxbow Pond Trail & Long Swing Trail

February 21, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Four weeks to Spring ๐ŸŒท. Ain’t that good news. It was cloudy to start out the day, now partly cloudy but clearing and 36 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground but melting fast. โ˜ƒ It looks like the ice storm they were threatening did not materialize to much, it’s already getting nicer out. Maybe not spring but warm enough to turn the heat back down. ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm.

Even on a dark mornings like today started out, โ˜ the lights in my bedroom continue to be quite bright making it easier to get up and going. That said, by getting to bed at a proper time and then the earlier sunrise ๐ŸŒ… makes it much easier to get out of bed. โ˜•ย Waffles and coffee for breakfast, took a shower, walked down to the express bus.๐Ÿš

The severe weather turned out to be a bust. โ˜”Some rain coming home but the treated surfaces weren’t bad at all. This morning the roads were fine, and the sidewalks weren’t that slippery but I think they could have used a plow.๐ŸŒจย By morning, it was partly sunny and the roads just wet. I think by the end of the day, the sidewalks will have melted away, with the sun and warmth coming today, along with a wind which will probably expose some bare spots on the ground.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 12th. Breezy, with a south wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which cleared to mostly sunny conditions by afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. That’s the record high for the day. This winter though, it seems like winter won’t hit . 11.0 inches of snow fell back in 1929.โ„

The sun will set at 5:35 pm with dusk around 6:03 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 39 degrees. Breezy, 21 mph breeze โ›… from the west with gusts up to 33mph. Today will have 10 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 19th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1963.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 10th. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.โ„

After I posted my essay yesterday about not having Internet,ย I got yet another glossy advertisement from Spectrum Cable,ย trying to get me to sign up. ๐Ÿ•ธย I tossed it promptly in the recycling bin.ย โ™ปย I am quite happy not having Internet at home, it’s just obnoxious how they always try to get me to sign up.

I have to say that the Save the Pine Bush dinner last night was one of the most interesting ones I’ve been to in a long time.๐Ÿ“ข Ward Stone was great as was Keith Shue who between the two gave us a good background of the ANSWERS plant’s history and the troublesome future. I was very surprised to learn that should the state put a co generation plant in the ANSWERS facility it will increase emissions by over 50% over the existing steam plant, ๐Ÿญand it will be running nearly all the time compared to the steam plant that only runs part time, especially in modest weather.โ™จ

I really like the improvements to Google Maps on the transit๐ŸšŒ front – I finally upgraded the app which doesn’t happen automatically as I have limited space.๐Ÿ“ฒ I like how the app is cleaner with transit information, tells you in big numbers how long you have to wait, how late the bus is running compared to what it’s scheduled to arrive at. Just update Google Maps and try out the app. Mine doesn’t update automatically, as my phone is always short of memory. I also am finding the battery isn’t a holding a charge very long. I may have to think about plunking down $50 for a new phone come summer. But I will have gotten 2 years out of the Tracphone, which is pretty good for those cheap phones that are just landfill fodder — although even expensive phones these days are basically the same thing.ย ๐Ÿ—‘

I am continuing to work on figuring out on how to build my smart relay for my truck.ย It makes a lot of sense to integrate the GPS logger I built with it now that I think about it more, ๐Ÿ—บย and maybe also bluetooth so I can monitor battery voltages,ย ๐Ÿ”‹ย and the status of the system from my phone when I’m sitting by the campfire. Thenย  I was thinking I could use a hall-effect sensor with it too, and monitor the amperage coming off the solar panel, so I could easily see the power coming off the panel. But then again, that would make the code a lot more complicated. I have ideas, the thing I have build them so they can become more then ideas.๐Ÿค”

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Going to be great weather for the Save the Pine Bush Hike, assuming the trails aren’t too slushy.ย ๐Ÿ‘ขย Although who knows how much snow will be left come Saturday, and the sand doesn’t always trap the water and muck too much. Sunday, rain before 1pm, then showers likely after 1pm. High near 51. ๐Ÿ’ฆย At least it will keep the heat at minimum over the weekend, assuming it’s not too damp and chilly inside. I doubt though I’ll be opening the windows, but at least I’ll save on heating, which is good because my bills have been kind of high this year Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees. Above average for a few days then, cooling down for next week.

In four weeks, which is one month from now, is theย First Day of Springย ๐ŸŒทย  on March 21 the sun will be setting at 7:09 pm (Daylight Savings Time),ย ๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 41 seconds later then today. Dusk is at 7:38 PM, which means I might be able to go to the park after work, if it’s not too wet or cold.๐Ÿž In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 46 and 27 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1921. I know I am definitely looking forward to spring, especially once the snow melts and I can start spending more time in the wilderness camping ๐Ÿ•and having a nice fire or two.๐Ÿ”ฅ

Looking ahead, Spring ๐ŸŒท is a month away, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 8 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 2 months, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 12 weeks (cows like to chew their cud when it’s not too warm), Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 19 weeks and August ๐ŸŒป is in 23 weeks.
