April 20, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. The rain is done for the remainder of the weekend but not much sun is expected. The skies will clear Thursday around 5 am. It is what it is.

Today was a pretty rainy day β˜” until around the three o’clock hour. Then it started to clear out. I went down to the library for a while uploaded some content I’ve been working on for the blog. While today has been a pretty wet day – my downstairs floors are all quite damp – it been pretty mild and I’ve been enjoying the fresh air. πŸ’¦Hopefully though it will dry out soon or I’m going to have get some bleach down to fight the certain mildew.

Today is 420 day and while I don’t smoke pot for the most part, I’ve playing with the GRASS functions in QGIS. 🌎 I’m too cheap and too broke after saving to buy marijuana much less alcohol but I sure like open source software. πŸ”“ Even once it’s legal in a few months. The GRASS system 🌾 is really powerful but has a steep learning curve, although now that’s integrated into QGIS its easy once you learn the functions to call. The next thing is to figure out how to script it. My interest lately has been doing more advanced things with the digital elevation models data and simplify it enough to use with Google Maps. 🌐

The sun will set at 7:43 pm with dusk around 8:13 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 14 mph.

I thought πŸ’ about going to the grocery store today and maybe to get some epoxy but I will hold off on that for a while I think. I’m going to have to but groceries mid week for camping, so why make two trips with my fossil fuel burner.πŸš™ I almost thought about hiking down to the Normans Kill Gorge to see all the water raging but it’s already getting late and with the skies being fairly cloudy its going to get dark earlyπŸ˜•. Maybe that’s where I will hike on Easter Sunday.

Other things on my bucket list for today πŸ“ƒ are to load my camping gear into the truck and work on soldering together the other sign module I have. Lately I’ve not been working on as many electronics projects probably because I’ve been spending so much time on either the excerise bike 🚲 or working on mapping things and other coding projects.🌐

I finally got the cellphone πŸ“± holder I ordered from China in March. For a $1.90 it’s pretty solid unit that fits very snuggly to the vent of my truck. The old one I had was falling apart after I dropped it a while back. I think the old one it was ten dollars at Wal-Mart, came in ten times more packaging. Ali Express for certain things like simple electronics is really great if you are willing to wait.

Going to warm up and be sunny by mid week. Maybe hit 90. I’ll see what the impact of the landlord cutting all of the various trees in the yard will be, although honestly I think that by the time I get home most nights the sun will be below the tree line. Not going to be really humid this week although possibly some more muggy air could push in on Thursday. Have to watch it.

Next weekend looks like it might be perfect weather-wise. Next Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6pm. Next Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees. Too bad that’s the weekend I have to work. More than a little annoyed but work is important as pays for ammunition, beer, gasoline, jacked up trucks and guns. But maybe it will be a pattern lasting for most of the summer. I’m hoping for some really nice summer weekends.

As you can see who follow me on Facebook, I’m reconnected between the blog and the Facebook site. I hate messing with the Facebook API which always seems to be changing and breaking things unnecessarily. Still image previews are broken, I got to research that further.

I’ve been researching adding preview images for graphics and Google Maps that I make but that requires a screenshot be rendered and that is a bit more difficult than might appear at first glance. That said it’s in my long term list of coding projects.

More charts and maps of school funding data coming up this week for you to play with as our local school district votes come up. It’s important to participate in our democratic process so get out and vote on Tuesday.

The air is feeling a bit damp with the rain heading in tomorrow but generally a mild evening that is getting increasingly cool. The skies will clear Monday around 6 pm. But next week will be nice, until the weekend.

Wasn’t a terrible day but kind of chaotic at times, but that’s normal for a Friday where I work. Wish we had better weather for the weekend and I could get out of town but I have some things to do this weekend and hopefully Memorial Day Weekend will be quite nice.

Sitting out back now watching the PBS Newshour on the tailgate of my truck. Not a terrible evening but it could be a bit warmer. In a bit I will retire inside. So be it. I will close the windows when I go to bed because it will get fairly cool and damp in morning.

Still thinking about vests because mine is in very rough shape. It really isn’t a big expense, when you figure how much I wear the vest. I just got to find some place that offers a good price. I want to be able to wear my vest again.

I found a shapefile with the BEDS codes so I will be able to make maps comparing state education data. There has been a lot of maps on education I’ve wanted to make but without the BEDS codes, I’ve not been able to link the data. I wish I could find current year school aid data but I’m sure looking around I’ll be able to find useful data, or maybe in June when it’s finally posted.

With yet another rainy weekend ahead, I’ll probably work on some more maps, graphics and content. I really got to do more Google Maps going forward. We will see.

Looking ahead, Memorial Day Weekend is in 2 weeks, Strawberry Moon is in 4 weeks, National Nude Day is in 9 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM is in 3 months, September 1st is in 16 weeks and Autumn Begins is in 19 weeks.

May 7, 2017 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 41 degrees in Westerlo. There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. The skies will clear Wednesday around 5 am. Kind of a damp evening, but still sleeping in my truck at my parents house, because I like to spend a least one night a week under the truck cap. It will be plenty warm under my covers though.

Finally got the code working to make the primary election maps up in Google Maps.Β I will post the first one tomorrow. I couldn’t figure out why my colors weren’t displaying right — I forgot colors are backwards in Google Maps, and forgot to reverse their order when setting the colors. Once I swapped the red and blue channels, things worked perfectly. Tomorrow I’m posting a map of the 2016 Republican Presidential Primary. More primary race maps coming soon.

Also, did you see I posted an updated Google MapΒ of all the lean-tos in the state,Β and tomorrow will be sharing a list of lean-tos. People like that list a lot, and it’s been a long time since I’ve uploaded an newer version. It’s pretty simple export from Quantum GIS, but it does take some manipulation in OpenOffice Calc and some HTML to make it display properly. But that’s one of many new GIS-style content I have for next week.

I had Sunday dinner at my parents house,Β where they celebrated Cinco de Mayo late this year. Mom made this really good Mexican-style casserole for dinner. Something she found out of a magazine, but it was remarkably good. And now I’m sleeping in the truck.

The new LED reading lamp I got is impressively bright.Β I plugged it into my USB port I have in my truck cap, and it really lit things up well for reading. Absolutely no problem reading the book, which appeared bright white, even four feet away. I have an 12 volt/USB extension cord which means I can take the light even farther back for reading by the campfire or plug into one of those USB battery packs I have at home. It also will light the tailgate up well when I’m sitting out back and having a cold one or two.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before 3am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a low of 35 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees below normal. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 45 degrees with rain and mist. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1968.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 83% illuminated. The moon will set around 5:12 am. The Full β€œFlower” Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly cloudy skies expected. The sun will rise at 5:41 am with the first light at 5:10 am, which is one minute and 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 9 hours and 37 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 7am, then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 48 degrees at 3pm.Β Cold day, essentially 19 degrees below normal. West wind 9 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had mist then mostly sunny skies and a high of 59 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1936. There was a dusting of snow in 1977.

The long range doesn’t look that great for next weekend. Major bummer! Next Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 4pm. Maybe Saturday will be okay but chilly. We’ll have to watch it. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 69 degrees.

In four weeks on June 4 the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm, which is 26 minutes and 10 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had heavy fog, fog, shallow fog, patches of fog, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 84 and 61 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 53 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1919.

If it ever gets that warm,Β I have the fan up and running in my truck cap.Β It’s not a real big fan but being oscillating and having fairly well designed blades and speed, it pushes the air around well in the truck cap. The truck cap is relatively small space, so it preforms well. It will be nice when it gets warm. It’s clipped onto the bed rail in the truck, but can be easily moved to clip on the tailgate or table, so when sitting back at camp, and I want to stay cool or keep the bugs off me in the mid-summer.

Looking ahead, Mother’s Day is Next Sunday, Father’s Day is in 6 weeks, Buck Moon is in 9 weeks, National Cheese Cake Day is in 12 weeks, Strugeon Moon is in 3 months, 7 PM Sunset is in 19 weeks, Average High is 60 is in 23 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends is in 26 weeks, Election Day 2017 is in 6 months, Cold Moon is in 30 weeks and New Years Eve is in 34 weeks.
