These are my writings from the past two years, including several featured a second time on this blog. They reflect my changing experiences.
Newest Fodder. Here are the latest fodder essays featured on the blog. Includes recently featured articles on my camping, hiking, kayaking, and outdoor experiences along with writing about the enviroment, life, and politics.
Camping. I generally prefer camping under the shell on the bed of my pickup at roadside sites, but I also occasionally will kayak or backpack into a site, stay at a lean-to or use my tent. These are my experiences.
Canoeing and Kayaking. I love to be out on the water, exploring new and interesting places. I have a 15 foot aluminum canoe I go canoeing out with my dog, and a much lighter 12 foot kayak I like to take out to explore the wilderness.
Country Life. I grew up in the country on my parents eight acres, raising chickens, goats, and with a big garden. Thoughts on that life and how it's changing our world.
Economy. Thoughts on how we use and misuse money. Economics is a deeply personal debate, along with one that is also very political.
Environment. We all live in a natural world even if we spend too much of our lives indoors. The products of the world come from nature, we depend on nature for both physical and spiritual health.
Experiences. As a child I grew up in the most remarkable place, the Helderbergs of Albany County, with amazing views of Catskills. These are some of my life experiences.
Firetowers. Across NY State, their used to be fire towers a top mountains that originally where used for forest fire surveillance and tracking, but since the aerial surveillance of 1930s and later, where mostly tourist attractions staffed by rangers. I particularly like climbing them, because they tend to be easier hikes, with great views up top.
Government. Thoughts on the role of government in our world, and how it should exist. I question where should government be involved in our lives, and where we need it to help us out.
Hiking. I enjoy climbing mountains, looking down at forests and farms below, exploring bogs and other interesting areas.
Humanity. Humans are unique in their wide ability to learn from and adapt to a changing world. The unique aspects of ourselves makes us distinctively different then the rest of the natural world.
Places. There are many special places that I have been fortunate enough to visit and spend time in it.
Politics. We all are political animals. I certainly love politics and frequently volunteer for candidates. My experiences working on campaigns, and also my thoughts on campaigns and parties.
Reviews. There are many books, music, and products I enjoy. There are others that have given me a truly terrible time. Thoughts on those sources of entertainment, enlightenment, and pain.
Seasons. The many seasons of the year, from cold to warm weather are important to how we live our lives.
Technology. While I know a little bit of code, and how to blog, I don't own a lot of technology besides my portable radio and my laptop. My thoughts on a society that is overly obsessed with technology but ignores the natural world that sustains us all.
Transportation. Exploring the ways we get around as a society from walking to transit to personal cars and trucks.
Urban Life. While the automobile and inexpensive fossil-fuel energy has blurred the distinction of the rural and the urban, our cities and suburbs have a distinct culture that one can not ignore.
