February 23, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Currently 19 degrees and mostly cloudy with a 6 mph north-northeast wind. The wind chill value is currently 11. Kind of yet another depressing weather morning, but I got a good night’s sleep and was able to force myself to get going early and walk down to the Park and Ride.

Today will have a chance of rain and snow, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Tonight the sun will set at 5:37 pm with darkness around 6:06 pm, which is 1 minutes and 16 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 10 hours and 57 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight the weather gets interesting. Look for snow and sleet before 3am, then sleet between 3am and 5am, then freezing rain and sleet after 5am. Low around 30. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.

There are 1 month, 7 days until April Fools Day when the sun will be setting at 7:22 pm (Daylight Savings Time).

Get your motors running and head out on the highway and make sure to wish Peter Fonda a Happy 76th Birthday. Kind of a gray day for riding your motorcycle and pretty cold too. Easy Rider is a movie that makes a lot of sense when you’re young and less as you get older.

Today in 1991, Ground Troops invaded Iraq starting off the fairly short Iraq 1 war. A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late.

On the environment front, today in 1983, the Environmental Protection AgencyΒ announces its intent to buy out and evacuate theΒ dioxin-contaminated community ofΒ Times Beach, Missouri. A disaster that makes all the stuff I’ve burnt over the years look like child play. I got to say anything with PVC plastic in it stinks to high heck.

Every day we get closer to the weekend. I definitely enjoy the walk down to the Park and Ride, and don’t really know why I haven’t been doing this all the time except maybe because I like to sleep in. But I enjoy getting a jump on the mornings.
