Robert H. Treman State Park

Robert H. Treman State Park is a state park located in Tompkins County, New York in the United States. The park is located along State Route 327, just west of State Routes 13, 34, and 96, situated in the Towns of Ithaca, Enfield and Newfield.

The park has numerous waterfalls along a rigorous 4.5-mile (7.2 km) round-trip hike. Like many of the state parks in the Finger Lakes region, the hiking trails follow a small creek (Enfield Creek, in this case), giving many views of the rock formations in the deep, narrow gorge (Enfield Glen). A natural swimming pool is located at the easternmost waterfall, “Lower Falls.” A large (over 100 ft (30 m). high), multi-tiered cascading waterfall, “Lucifer Falls,” is a short hike from the top (western) part of the park. The most spectacular view of Lucifer falls can be found along the gorge trail, although there are also overlooks along the rim trail. Finger Lakes Trail skirts the southern edge of the park.

Because of dangerous conditions created by snow and ice, most of the park’s trails are inaccessible in the winter. Visitors can view Lower Falls year-round.

The park offers a pool, picnic tables, playing fields, hiking and camping. The Enfield Falls Mill and Miller’s House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Maybe a little FOMO isn’t a bad thing on vacation 🩴

As not doing something on vacation literally means missing out. It’s not like I’ve spent a ton of money so far, yes food, ice cream, gasoline and even a case of beer but it’s the memories and fun that matters. These days are short – it will be Sunday before you know it and I’ll have to take down camp and head home. I’m still eating good healthy meals with tons of fruits and vegetables even if I’ve broke down and are enjoying a few beers each night and good ice cream.

Good morning! Soon it will be time to swim in the Enfield Glen, going to be a hot one. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Partly sunny and 70 degrees at the Lucifer Falls in the Robert Treman State Park. β˜€ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees.

It’s funny I’m wearing an older pair of XXL shirts and shorts and they’re so big I look like a clown 🀑 and at this point I’m less worried about that additional ice cream 🍧 or beer 🍻. Got to enjoy vacation still I’m eating apples and peaches all day long. πŸ‘ Need to stop buying peaches at the grocery store as the farm stand ones are a million times better. After that campfire salmon 🐠 last night with rice, mushrooms, peppers and onions I cut open that watermelon πŸ‰ and more then a third is gone. Yeah, I did dump a shit ton of MSG on it, I’m addicted to Accent. Better than salt for the blood pressure and makes most food items, even healthy ones taste a million times better. ☺ Vacation is seperate enough from home I’m not tempted to hit up ice cream stands when home 🏑 and I’ll lock πŸ”’ the remaining beer 🍻 in my attic so don’t drink it before camping again β›Ί in a few weeks.

Today will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 81 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 22nd. Maximum dew point of 64 at 2pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 90 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1975.

Plans change πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ and with the hotter nicer less stormy weather today β˜€ I decided to do Enfield Glen and Robert Treman State Park for the ultimate in gorge swimming 🏊. I had to go to Ithaca at any rate today to get propane at Tractor Supply. 🚜 Plus I’m thinking of getting some pork πŸ₯© to cook up at camp at the Piggery, then park at Cass Park, kayak πŸ›Ά the Ithaca Canal and maybe a little of Cayuga Lake if it’s not too choppy. And maybe end the day riding a bit of the Black πŸ–€ Diamond πŸ”Ή Trail outside of Ithaca. And try to get back to camp by nine 9⃣ as has been the norm this summer vacation. πŸ–

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:13 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.1Β° from the due south horizon (-5.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:46 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (288Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (295Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 8:55 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:36 pm. At sunset, look out for possible rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy ⚑, with a low of 62 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6pm. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 72 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1966.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. North wind 3 to 8 mph. Maximum dew point of 63 at 11am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 62 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees. I’ll take it. 🏊Good for swimming and maybe calm enough for kayaking too on one of the Finger Lakes. Bit humid though for a lot of hiking and cycling but the ice cream will be good. 🍧🍦🍨
