Google Maps: NY Unemployment Rate April 2016

The New York State Department of Labor yesterday released preliminary local area unemployment rates for April 2016.

Rates are calculated as prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.

You can download this data from here: http://labor.ny.gov/stats/laus.zip

Google Maps: March 2016 Unemployment Rate

This map shows the March 2016 unemployment rate for all counties in New York State, along with all cities and towns with a population greater then 20,000 residents. By clicking on the individual towns, cities, or counties, you can see monthly non-seasonally adjusted unemployment statistics from January 2015 to present, along with the change in the unemployment rate between March 2015 and March 2016, along with 2015 unemployment averages.

This data becomes available from the NYS Department of Labor on the 20th of each month for the previous month. Replacing the PDF maps of earlier months, I will be making these interactive maps going forward.

All data are from the NYS Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program. https://labor.ny.gov/stats/lslaus.shtm
