CDTA Bus Stop #10595

The bus stop at Delaware and Cherry Avenue, near the Valero Station which offers a shelter and some landscaping. To this day, they have yet to fix the bus stop so it’s paved between the shelter and the road.

Good Morning – January 12, 2022

Good morning! Happy Coldest Day Ever Recorded in Albany ๐Ÿ’จ !

That would be January 12, 1968 when it was negative 26 degrees in Albany, coldest day ever recorded! Interestingly enough, the latest climate normals show the coldest week of the year has shifted a week later. And much warmer than that today. UPDATE – My friend Hugh says that actually January 18, 1971 was colder, 28 below zero.

Partly sunny and 17 degrees at the CDTA Bus Stop #10595. There is a south breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 3. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today should make a run at the freezing mark, โ˜€ which will make the black ice fun for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. I did get out for my evening walk, though not until after slipping on the black ice running to the store to get milk ๐Ÿฅ›. I hit my knee ๐Ÿ˜ตand it hurt like a mother but I was fine by the time I went for my evening walk. The town side walks weren’t bad, it just was where I was walking in the parking lot. Didn’t rip my pants AFAIK.

My evening walk was pretty good, ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ I am glad I got some steps in, although not the 10,000 steps I go for more nice nights. I probably should have walked on Monday, I was bad and didn’t do that.

October 8, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Dark Thursday. ๐Ÿ˜Š No power still this morning. ๐Ÿ”Œ Next Thursday is Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚. Mostly sunny and 43 degrees in the land of the Delmartian. There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 25 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ.

I still can’t believe there is no power in Delmar. ๐Ÿ”Œ There are a few branches down but not a lot. The traffic lights ๐Ÿšฅ are working mainly because they’re on portable generators. Nice morning though. ๐ŸŒ…

I ended up eating breakfast out back. โ˜• Fresh coffee on a cold but sunny morning is always a good thing. ๐Ÿณ Camp stove works fine without electricity.

Out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. I thought they had power back on in Delaware but it’s just a generator. โšก

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 17th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 2017.

I guess if you are going to loose power this is the weather to be in the dark. ๐ŸŒƒ Nights are long but you don’t need heat โ™จ but it’s cool enough that my refrigerator packed full of ice should be good for a few days.

It looks like I won’t be getting

A Vaccine That Protects Against COVID-19 May Be Right Under Our Noses : Shots – Health News : NPR

There's a chance the vaccine could offer some protection against COVID-19 itself, says virologist Robert Gallo, who directs the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and is chairman of the Global Virus Network.

The key is getting the right flu vaccine, says Gallo, who was one of the main scientists credited with discovering HIV. "The vaccine has to have a live virus in it. The virus is attenuated so it doesn't cause disease, but otherwise the virus is alive."

March 14, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Two weeks to Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ. Mostly cloudy โ›… and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 25 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Its just not a particularly nice morning with the clouds โ˜ and the wind ๐Ÿƒ. I decided to call off going to Schoharie or Madison County for this week because it doesn’t look really sunny out there for most of the weekend and the wind will make things kind of raw. Plus all the mud and fields covered with cow shit ๐Ÿฎ and gray skies can be a bit depressing.

Today will be partly cloudy โ›…, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 3rd. West wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. The record high of 75 was set in 1946. 17 inches of snow fell back in 2017.โ„

I am going to play it by ear ๐Ÿ‘‚ but I don’t expect a real nice weather day although I’ll probably walk out to Five Rivers later. I have some mapping to do, and I am going to read the Rapp Road DEIS more but I’m not a scientist so I don’t know what to really object to but in general.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 45.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-25.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). Today in 1900, the Gold Standard Act is ratified, placing United States currency on the gold standard. ๐Ÿ’ฑ Historians and economists say it was a terrible policy because it hand cuffed the federal reserve to keep them from addressing the financial situation of the Great Depression.

Melting Snow and Steps

February 12, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Next Wednesday is February Save the Pine Dinner 🦋. I better post that event on the Save the Pine Bush page. Partly sunny and 30 degrees passing by the Bethlehem Public Library on the bus downtown. โ˜€ There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. 🌡๏ธ Listening to Bread Guitar 🎸 Man heading downtown on this relatively sunny morning.

Yesterday I went over to John Wolcott house 🏡 and we are mostly finished up on a lot of his unsorted files 📂. It’s been over a year but the project is mostly done. I had no idea that I would be working on it for another year. It’s nice having more time after work to do this these days.

I got home and read for a little more. Almost done with Almost President, my forth or fifth book 📚 of the year. I’ve made spending least a half hour each night reading a priority. I look forward to bring a book down to the park to read 📖 come the summer although I might not sit in the grass due to the ticks. 🐜

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 39 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. West wind 6 to 8 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Today will have 10 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will snow, mainly after 11pm. 🌨 Low of 32 degrees at 3am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 29th. South wind 6 to 8 mph. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1875.

Not much has changed for the President Weekend forecast. โ›…Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

I heard Bernie Sanders won the New Hampshire primary. That surprises no one with Pete Buttigieg in second. โŽ I think that’s fine. I don’t have a strong preference between the candidates. Voted for Sanders in 2016. I don’t like Howie Hawkins at all for the Green Party so I’ll probably vote for the libertarian in the General although I’m sure any rotting carcass could defeat Trump in New York so my vote doesn’t matter. 💩 As long as the federal government leaves me alone and keeps my taxes low I don’t have any complaints. I don’t own a television so I don’t have to listen to the mad man pontificating all day long and the pundits analyzing it. 📺

🌹🌻🌼Only 36 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼 Tomorrow is 35.

Gobler's Knob Stage

August 8, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly cloudy, humid and 70 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ›… There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. Feels even more humid with the rain that lasted until around seven.

Kind of a damp morning for sure. ๐Ÿณ Blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Made the walk down to the express bus ๐Ÿš and it’s off to work. Heavy traffic heading into the city but I don’t care I’m not driving. ๐Ÿš˜ I got a much better night sleep last night โ˜• because I didn’t drink coffee before bed last night.

Today will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 84 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Still undecided on next weekend but sure looks nice. โ›บ I could go out to Schoharie County but I’m undecided on that point. Plus I have that Pine Bush meeting I probably should go to on Saturday. But I’m unsure as summer is rapidly fading away but so is my bank account from the summer trips.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 6:33 pm with dusk at 7:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1967.

Cellar Mountain

June 5, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Today 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Two weeks to Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ›. Maybe there is hope. Looking forward summer and getting out of town. But not this weekend. I noticed that there is still three weekends after this weekend in June so I’ll still have a chance to get out at least once in June. Hopefully once it warms up and the water isn’t so cold and the black flies are done. ๐ŸŠ The Mine Kill pool opens in two and half weeks on June 22nd.๐Ÿ– That could be a fun weekend, hiking in the Catskills, swimming, fishing, and camping up at Burnt-Rossman.

Partly cloudy and 61 degrees at the Elsmere. NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 2 pm. It was a pretty cloudy day but it seems like we’ve had some more clearing. Maybe it will be a day that is kind of gray with haze in the sky then a real cloudy and dark day, but I brought my umbrella — ran upstairs for it –which ensures no rain today.โ˜”

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 78 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 14th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 4pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

The sun will set at 8:29 pm with dusk around 9:04 pm, which is 41 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look out for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and one second over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 7pm and 1am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 64 degrees at 3am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8pm. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.

I decided against getting a USB flashlight that I could charge in my truck, although it looks like there are lots of options. ๐Ÿ”ฆ I really have quite a bit of flashlights, and those LED flashlight batteries last quite a long time. I really should switch over to rechargable batteries though — I some mains have chargers around — and it looks like they make buck-converter based USB chargers or even 12 volt that I could use for easy plugging into my truck. Still haven’t decided on the hammock. Maybe tonight — as I sure would like to have it if I go camping next weekend, especially if I do end up going up to that site up in Perkins Clearing where I was on Labor Day last year.๐Ÿ’ค

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. Almost the longest day of the year — that Friday is the first day of summer. On that day in 2018, we had humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 83 and 64 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1995.

This evening I’m hoping to get out for my evening walk, but it all depends on the timing of the thunderstorms.โ›ˆ I expect in two weeks I’ll be getting home earlier much more regularly. I really haven’t spent much time at the park after work, ๐Ÿ“— because I’ve either been at work or it’s been cold and rainy in the evening. ๐Ÿž
