Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around 5 am.

This afternoon will be mostly cloudy, with a high of 37 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal. South wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had rain and a high of 61 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1901. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.

The Full Cold Moon is tonight at 12:05 am. We will have a chance of snow before 1am, then a slight chance of snow showers between 1am and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2015, it got down to 44 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1898.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. That’s an understatement. Saturday, snow before 4pm, then sleet. High near 35. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 60%.Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

Traffic is all jammed up going north bound on the 787. Southbound doesn’t seem that bad. Lately it hasn’t been so bad, probably because a lot of state workers take time off around the holidays.

Going out to dinner with my parents this evening then to see the lights in the park. Should be a nice evening. Not too cold and hopefully the flurries will hold off until later.

Good morning! Today is the day before Thanksgiving. Cold start to the biggest travel day of the year. Partly cloudy and 28 degrees in Delmar. There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. The current wind chill is 17. I’m still not ready for the cold. I’m glad that in the city we are snow free.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high of 38 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Still pretty chilly so bring your heavy overcoat on your way to work.

Last year, mostly sunny with a high around 40. The record high of 72 was set in 1931. There was 5 inches of snow back in 1943.

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 35 degrees in Albany. Breezy, 16 mph breeze from the west-northwest. The skies will clear around 4 pm. Definitely another dark evening for the commute, and a cold one to boot with the chilly breeze. Grabbed the hot seat on the bus next to the engine.

Once I get home, I will make dinner and I might walk down to the library. I don’t really have a laptop I can bring down there to use, but I like to go for a walk after work and I think it’s a bit too chilly to do the loop around the high school.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. One year ago, mostly clear with a low around 22. The record low of 5 occurred back in 1972.

Waning Crescent Moon tonight with 38% illuminated. The moon will rise around 12:13 am. The New Moon is next Tuesday. The Full “Cold” Moon is on Wednesday, December 14th.

Traffic is quite backed up heading north out of the city. Heading south bound, traffic is backed up both getting onto the Thruway and Southern Boulevard. In contrast, I thought traffic yesterday southbound was very light probably due to state workers taking off the full holiday week. Maybe there is a breakdown or crash slowing up things. I’m sure I’ll still be home before 6 pm as things are starting to free up a bit.

Continued cold with the breeze but much sunnier. Ir will be mostly sunny, with a high of 39 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Last year, mostly sunny with a high around 40. The record high of 72 was set in 1931. There was 5 inches of snow back in 1943.

Tomorrow’s weather is expected to be quite nice. However we need to watch the forecast for Wednesday night going into Thanksgiving, especially if you plan to be commuting. Sleet, snow, and rain are expected for the morning of Thanksgiving but it will all turn over to rain later on in the afternoon.

In four weeks on December 20 the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm, which is 1 minute earlier then tonight. The average high is 34 degrees, and the record for that date is 61 degrees was set back in 1957. We are ten days out from the earliest sunset of year in Albany which occurs at 4:23 pm.

Still looking at laptops. I am thinking about the HP Pavilion 15 which seems to check all the boxes for me, including being on sale for $500 come Thanksgiving through the Saturday after Black Friday. It’s a conventional full size laptop, doesn’t have a fancy touch screen or tablet mode that I would never use.  The one thing it lacks is a SSD and installing one seems like it would be a pain but I guess can be done eventually if needed. The factory conventional hard drive is 1, 000 GB. It has a fast i7 processor and 12 GB of RAM. My general impression is that HP computers aren’t that reliable or durable but they seem to get decent reviews nowadays and their parts are cheap, generic and well supported by Linux. Screen replacement is something I can do with ease. They seem fairly serviceable although not quite as simple for the hard drive as the Samsung or ThinkPad I had before it..

Other than that, it was a fairly quiet Tuesday before Thanksgiving at work. I walked three laps and around the museum today during my lunch break, which added about 5 miles of walking to my day. I’m trying to walk more each day to shave off a few pounds and build up my ankle, which hasn’t hurt since the beginning of vacation but I don’t want to risk further injury. I’m a big boy, and I could use to do more walking while things are relatively nice and quiet at work during lunch.

I’m glad that we haven’t gotten the snow they’ve gotten in North Syracuse, but almost everywhere I normally camp has a significant amount of snow. It looks like the snow will last for a while. With my heated tent, camping in the snow really isn’t that bad but I think I’ll wait for nicer weather before I head out for another night in the wilderness.

Happy Friday. Survived yet another work week. Currently 71 degrees and cloudy. Tonight rain showers and 51 for the low. As they say, April comes in like a lion and leaves as a lamb. But not everyday can have blue skies.

Traffic is moving well as we head out of the city. The weather isn’t particularly nice this evening but tomorrow evening I’ll probably go down to the river for some fishing. I got to return those library books tonight. Sometime I also got to get to the store and buy some groceries. Maybe I’ll walk out to Five Rivers Education Center tomorrow.

Tired after this week. I don’t know why, it was a pretty quiet week around work. I guess there was just a lot of different things going on that needed to be accomplished. And I’m pretty ready for my Finger Lakes vacation. The weather looks reasonable for next week. Not all blue skies but some nice days and some rain to keep things from getting too dry. I’ll bring a tarp and my Big Buddy Heater, so I’ll stay warm and dry even if one of the days is wet. I’m sure the camp stove will make some good coffee too.

We are a little past the full moon although to the casual observer the moon will be pretty full. Not sure with the clouds how much you will see. Sunset tonight at 7:48 pm.

Blustery afternoon about 63 degrees. Only down a degree or so from earlier but the breeze makes it feel cooler. Sunset at 7:43 pm and dusk at 8:12. Mostly clear skies at dusk, around 55 degrees but fairly blustery. Tonight will be fairly chilly with a low around 37 in the city. Sunny and 62 tomorrow.

I got to vote tonight for Bernie. I will stop by my polling place on the way down to the park. I also created a spreadsheet for tallying and ultimately mapping the 157 county / congressional districts combinations that will be reported tonight. I made a special shape file to map the data. I don’t expect to get a chance to post it until later in the week. The Democratic Primary results should be quite interesting and much more detailed then we normally get for statewide races.

Traffic is crawling along on 787 with the construction. But I think I’ll get home close to on time. I have a feeling this is the last year for them tearing up the road. All construction projects must eventually come to an end.

Today got up to 80 degrees but it’s now dropped down to 77 degrees as thas progressed under partly cloudy skies with a lot of high clouds around. Should be a nice evening for heading down to the park in a bit.

Construction is well underway on the 787, so traffic is moving slowly tonight. But I’m sure I’ll eventually make it home. Kind of tired this evening. Just a lot of silly stuff going on. I worry a bit too much at times.

I was watching traffic on the bus tonight as was noticing how many people are playing on their phones in traffic. I never touch my phone when I’m driving except to report a cop or accident, and only a pinky tap or two with it in the cradle. I do use Waze constantly to check my speed, and have it set so apps and messages automatically pop up in the screen without further prompting. Sometimes I get important messages while driving. Email is 24/7 with work these days. If I need to reply back, I pull over in a safe location and put my truck in park.

I don’t know why that’s hard, when the cellphone cradles are like $15 at Walmart and keep the phone in your visible range for hands free use in the line of sight of the road. I don’t like the campaign against texting while driving, as briefly tapping a phone shouldn’t be a crime, but people shouldn’t be holding a phone while driving or engaging in extensive interactions with their phones while driving.

Pretty sure which camp stove I’m going to buy but I will wait until the weekend to pick it up. Not sure if I’m going out of town this weekend but I want to test it out before heading out for the five day trip next Tuesday. It should be a nice week.

Not quite as warm as earlier due to the declining sun angle but still nice. Sunny and 54 degrees currently. Your going to want a long sleeve shirt and sweater this evening as it will be 49 degrees when the sun sets at 7:37 pm and darkness at 8:06 pm. Tonight will be cool, about 30 degrees which is seven degrees below normal. Tomorrow in contrast will reach 62 degrees or warmer.

The express bus got cut off in front of city hall and the driver hit the service brake but avoided hitting the cars on both sides of it. The driver stopped briefly to inspect the bus to be certain but we are on our way home. The 787 is super congested tonight but the driver is maximizing use of the left lane and the gore. Being a bus, your bigger and have more passengers so you get to go first. Lots of accidents on the 787 tonight due to the nice weather and people forget how to drive.

First quarter moon tonight and it will set around 3 AM, leaving very starry skies. Do plan for temperatures reaching 30 degrees and frost advisories are out. The real nice weather comes for the weekend but be aware with the recent cold weather nothing has budded up much in the mountains combined with a low dew point and a breeze. Dehydration is also a risk and heat exhaustion because finding shade will be difficult in the woods this weekend.

With the fire danger, I’m taking backcountry camping at a local state forest off the agenda for this weekend. Instead I’ll just go down to the park after the Save the Pine Bush clean up or maybe out fishing. Maybe hit up some trout holes on Sunday or maybe go hiking, but I got to be careful of heat exhaustion because it will be hot, especially in the mountains where there are no leaves on the trees. But after tonight, I don’t see any below freezing weather for the foreseeable future and with highs every day in the 50s and 60s, things will green up.

It was a pretty crazy day at work today and the commute home was even crazier. But it will be nice tonight down at the park.

42 degrees and mostly cloudy and cold with a bone chilling 15 degree wind blowing. Sunset at 7:28 pm with near constant temperatures tonight with a low around 38 degrees. Rain showers by morning.

I took off the last three days of April off from work. I will probably take a road trip to an undecided location. Hopefully it will be spring like by then and not pour all week. I don’t like taking time too far in advance but you have to sometimes take time off before the days are taken.

Tomorrow while rainy will be A lot warmer. I don’t think we are looking at a full day wash out but hopefully it will make the salt wash off the roads.

I’m tired…

Sloppy is the best way to describe this evening’s weather conditions. The temperature is 24 degrees which is cold for April and we got three or four inches of snow during the day in the city and maybe six inches in Delmar. The snowfall accumulations and the cold temperatures made the roads pretty slick midday but what do I know, I don’t drive to work.

Tonight will be cold. Darn right frigid for April, especially with the wind whipping around as expected. Temperatures are expected to fall to 15 degrees which puts the 14 degree record from April 4, 1954 in real danger of falling. Cloudy, we are done with the snow. Some clearing late. Sunset at 7:26. Get up before dawn to see the Waning Cresent Moon in the evening., Sunny but frigid for the second gear of the week. I’m pretty sure that the synchronizer has been pretty much ground off on Tuesdays at this point. Sunny and 36 degrees for a high on Tuesday with a 15-20 mph breeze to drop that windchill on down.

At least traffic leaving the city is moving well. People are probably in a rush to get home and drink a stiff drink next to a warm fire. It is after all a Monday. I think many schools were closed today which has kept traffic moving this rush hour.

It was a Monday. I’m still alive so I survived it. Probably just going to relax this evening, although maybe I’ll bundle up and go to the library. We will see. Later in the week I have to go to the grocery store as some point I’ll run out of food.

Good evening. What a surprisingly delightful evening with temperatures around 59, dropping about a degree from the high of 60. Mostly clear this evening although there are some high clouds that give the sky a hint of gray. Definitely going down to park for a while this evening. Clouds creep in around 9 or ten, and rain comes in around 11. There is a 90% chance of rain by morning. But the sun will be back by mid afternoon on Good Friday.

Tonight sunset is at 7:13 pm with darkness around 7:41. The days are getting longer quickly. The Waning Gibbous Moon will rise around 8 pm, although tonight it will still appear largely full. I think the Waning Gibbous Moon is creepy because the shadow is on the opposite side then you would expect it to be.

I got out of work a bit early, so I went down for a walk to Albany’s Corning Preserve. It worked out well, I was able to catch the bus down by the old Union Station without much waiting.

Talk about a nice spring evening in late March…

Good evening! Currently partly clear and 79 degrees with a 13 mph southwest wind. The high for today was 81 degrees. 40 degrees above average.

The dewpoint is 38 degrees and if the ground wasn’t so wet we’d be at a extremely high fire danger. Desert like. In case your wondering the heat index is currently 78 degrees but it don’t feel that way with the breeze and the extremely low humidity.

The last time it reached this warm was September 19, 2015. In other words, the concluding days of last summer.

Exceptional. That’s the only way to describe tonight’s weather conditions. We probably won’t have a day this warm for a long time.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. That’s about 33 degrees above normal. A certain record high temperature for the low temperature tonight.

Tonight the sun will set at 5:55 pm with darkness around 6:23 pm, which is 1 minutes and 12 seconds later than yesterday. In four weeks on April 6 the sun will be setting at 7:27 pm (Daylight Savings Time), which is 1 hour and 32 minutes later then today.

Tonight we have a Waxing Cresent Moon with 6% illuminated. It will set at 6:38 pm. The First Quarter Moon is next Wednesday and the March’s Full Worm Moon is on March 22nd.

Thursday will be showers likely before 11am, then periods of rain, mainly after 11am. High near 66. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. That’s about 24 degrees above normal. The record high of 72 degrees was set back in 1977.

Looking ahead to the weekend, awesome but not as warm temperatures will prevail. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Saturday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Sunday will be partly sunny, with a high near 58. The heat wave continues. This will likely be warmest March since 2012.

I hope your exceptionally warm Wednesday is going well. Have a great evening!

Good afternoon! Currently 35 degrees and mostly cloudy with a 16 mph west wind. The wind chill value is currently 25. That wind really makes it feel cold, even though the mercury is above freezing.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 19. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening. Tonight will have 13 hours and 3 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over last night.

Tonight is February’s Full Snow Moon. The Last Quarter Moon is on March 1st and the New Moon is on March 9th.

Tuesday will be partly sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Fairly mild, but Wednesday is when the roads will get sloppy.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we have seasonally cold but sunny weather. Saturday will be partly sunny, with a high near 38. Saturday Night will have a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday will be partly sunny, with a high near 34. Sunday Night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.

Traffic seems to be moving well tonight on the 787. Some traffic but we have the fast bus driver who bullies her way through traffic. I’m not complaining.

Albany County Young Democrats meeting tonight. It’s only my second meeting I’ve been to in recent years but it’s fun to get involved in politics once again, especially with the presidential election coming up. Always kind of interesting to learn more about our governmental leaders and the process they use to get elected.

While the sum will have set by the time you read this post, right now as I type this post the sky is full of color. The days are rapidly growing longer. I can not complain about that. It’s not pitch black when I get home most nights now. Three weeks and it’s Daylight Savings Time and the sun will set after 7 pm.

I hope your Monday is going well. Have a great evening!

Good evening. Currently partly cloudy and 26 degrees in Albany. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Tonight we have a waxing crescent moon, setting at 7:21 pm. Tuesday will be a chance of snow, mainly after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 32. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

The long weekend is starting to look fairly nice, but seasonably cold. I’m looking at heading up to the Adirondacks and camping along the East Branch of the Sacandaga River. Right now they don’t have a lot of snow there, but week the lake effect and continued cold, they may have a foot. That’s fine, I just need to dig out a place a long the road to park, and I’ll hike back to the campsite. Looking forward to getting camping next weekend.

Big Red has been running great since I got the new battery in it. Which is good because it’s been a real pain not having a reliable car, and much too long of an ordeal. The cigarette light voltage meter reads lower with the new battery, but it’s constant and starts with ease. I’ve noticed no issues. I wonder if the old battery was reading so high, because it was taking only a surface charge causing it sit high. 12.55 seems lower then normal, but there is probably a small amount of voltage drop between the battery and cigarette lighter. Unplug it,

Besides the great pasta spill this morning, things have gone pretty well this morning. It’s been a productive day.

Good evening. Currently 39 degrees and cloudy in the city. Chilly with the wind whipping around. At least we aren’t dealing with the heavy fog this evening. Christmas lights are on downtown and the state Christmas tree is lit. 28 degrees for a low tonight. Sunrise tomorrow at 7:05 AM.

Busy day at work, spent a lot of time with spreadsheet crunching numbers and making pretty graphs. It made the day go by quickly. The weekend will hopefully come quickly then springtime. The latest weekend forecast is a split verdict but very warm.

Kind of a quiet anticlimactic evening tonight. Traffic grinds along on the way out of the city. We got a late start as traffic was slow on South Swan. Now it seems fairly light.

No tanker trains at the port tonight. Maybe they are just switching up the tankers. I’ve been wondering about the impact of low oil prices on the future of oil trains. Then again, I’m certain low oil prices can’t last forever. Climate change negotiations continue.
