Elm Avenue Park and Ride

Good Morning – September 30, 2021

Good morning! Where did September go? ๐Ÿ‚

I know you can ask that about any season and indeed it will be November and then Thanksgiving before you know it. But first things first with October. ๐Ÿฆƒ

Mostly cloudy and 49 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 10 am.

Just waiting for the bus, ๐Ÿš it should be here shortly. Then it’s downtown. Yesterday I was in the office ๐Ÿข early enough that I could drop off my lunch and then go for walk ๐Ÿšถ on the Plaza. I might do the same today.

I got to laundromat last night ๐Ÿ‘š so I’ll have clean clothes for the next few days. I was going to run to the store while at the wash but I was running late and with the winos taking up all the parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ and getting late I decided to skip that. I have enough food ๐Ÿฒ and I’m undecided on weekend plans. I wanted to go to the Adirondacks but the forecast doesn’t look particularly good.

I did get my 10,000 steps in yesterday, ๐Ÿšถ although I wasn’t sure as it started to drizzle  when I got home at 9 PM last night and I was tired. But I toughed it through the walk. Actually it was closer to 12,000 steps. It would have been more but the bus driver gave me a ride part of the way from the park and ride to home.

June 7, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Mostly sunny and 63 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. The dew point is 53 degrees.

This sure seems like it would have been a good weekend to get out of town but so be it. The trail day tomorrow should be fun as will be the Gas Up. At least I didn’t have to worry about packing or traffic. Just a relaxing trip to work on the bus. ๐Ÿš Maybe next weekend. The long range looks decent for next weekend but maybe not quite as nice for next weekend. Really hard to say at this point.

I expect a real busy week next week but I think I could throw together a weekend trip quite quickly. โ›บ If it’s going to be extremely warm I’m thinking Pisceo-Powley Road and a day trip to Moss Island, otherwise Perkins Clearing and . Black flies should be thinning out by then despite the cool and rainy spring. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I decided against a hair cut today โœ‚on grounds that it wasn’t that long ago that I last cut my hair. ๐Ÿ’ˆ I know it’s only $14 with tip but I don’t like when it’s really short and you can see the spot where it’s thinning out. Plus I didn’t feel like walking down there or catching the local bus to work. But gosh more and more gray is popping up. Less shows up when it’s cut short. I decided instead to just trim a bit around the ears and my goatee at home.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 22nd. That’s summer weather but without much humidity. Maximum dew point of 54 at 9am. North wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1999.

The sun will set at 8:30 pm with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 38 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 53 seconds over yesterday.

After work, I’ll probably head back down to the park and read more of that Richard Hofstadter book. ๐Ÿ“™ I just stumbled upon it in my collection and forgot what a good read it was. Then sit out back for a while, assuming that the mosquitoes aren’t too bad. I can’t stay up too late though, as National Trails Day with MHLC out in Coeymans, so I need to get to bed relatively early. In the afternoon, I’m thinking I’ll probably hike Bennett Hill before going out to my parents house for Sunday dinner on well Saturday this month. I also do need to find my work gloves before the event (they’re in the crawl space), and I should be wearing them when I camp so I don’t once again burn my hand.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1951. Sounds like a very pleasant evening.

On this day in 1965, the Supreme Court of the United States hands down its decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, effectively legalizing the use of contraception by married couples.๐Ÿ”— And a few years later Loretta Lynn would sing her song. And the abortion controversy would get underway mostly as a counterpart to the gun control debate.

As previously noted, next Friday is Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. I actually thought about hanging my flag out today but it didn’t happen. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1892.

Towards Outlet of Stockport Creek

May 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€! I was looking around my apartment at some of the junk I have. A lot of it is scrap metal, I should see if I could take it somewhere and get a few bucks or at least recycle it. It’s just so easy to accumulate stuff, often broken stuff and parts you might use someday. Next Friday is Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ. Hoping for nice weather next week, I probably will leave right from work from the Adirondacks. Maybe I’ll even get to leave before five — that would be nice, it happened last year, but this year might be too busy.

Drizzle, then heavy rain, then mist heading down to the Park and Ride and 54 degrees โ˜” in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 23rd. Maximum dew point of 57 at 3pm. South wind around 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2017.

The sun will set at 8:13 pm with dusk around 8:45 pm, which is one minute and 2 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

I don’t know about you, but I am sure tired of the rain.๐ŸŒง I was noticing this morning that the bathroom has gotten quite musty. I thing a good cleaning with lots of bleach is an order for the bathroom this weekend. Also some work on the kitchen. Before the heat kicks in on Sunday.๐Ÿ›€ I really didn’t do much cleaning last weekend, because I was quickly running out to head up to the Adirondacks, and next week I’ll be heading out of town. I also need to get the bottles and cans out, because they haven’t gotten out last week. Maybe I should return them

At least I’ve been feeling better, during the second half of the week.๐Ÿ˜ท I don’t know why I had the headaches and achyness in the first half of the week on and off and the same thing last week, but it seems like it was going around the office. Kind of a cold without a full cold.

I’m hopefully now that I’m past this, and with the better weather, I’ll be feeling better, getting out, doing more walking ๐Ÿšถand exercise and getting ready for the summer that’s coming. I did walk down to the bus stop and to the library, but I’ve not done my evening walks in a while. My big thing this summer is going to be more day hikes, and once the black flies are gone, more overnighters with the hammock (probably going to need an inexpensive, lightweight bug net).

I think I am set for the Lupine Festival, ๐Ÿฆ‹ย I just have to pick up the printed material from the print shop and just reorganize the bag to make sure I only have the supplies I need. I will run to the store, get some crayons ๐Ÿ– and food to eat tonight and while I”m there, because I’m pretty low at home, unless I get creative.๐Ÿž I got figure out my lunch tomorrow — I guess I will get a ticket for food there but I’d rather pack my own and avoid the waste and unhealthy options. Need lots of water too, because it often is hot sitting out at the event.

As previously noted, next Friday is Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:19 pm with dusk at 8:53 pm. On that day in 2018, we had sunny and temperatures between 80 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1964.

Looking Back Towards South Troy Bridge

May 16, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ! Now if the sun were ever to come out — as it did for a few hours yesterday, and is trying to today — the we’d have a shit-ton of green grass.ย  ๐ŸŒพFive weeks to Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Looking forward to finally having some nice weather, laying down at the beach, going for a swim, or fishing in the evening. Partly cloudy and 51 degrees โ›… at the Elm Avenue Park and Ride, waiting for 8:26 and heading downtown. There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. It’s actually a pretty nice morning for once.

Decided to make up blueberry pancakes for breakfast ๐Ÿ’and pasta for lunch. ๐Ÿฒ Definitely a pleasant spring morning for a change, I enjoyed my walk down to the Park and Ride. Taking one of the now old CDTA hybrid buses ๐Ÿš to work, the hybrid motor is making some odd noises for sure. The turbo is whistling too. I wonder if it’s blowing black smoke ๐Ÿ’จ out its tailpipe as we go downtown. Smells like cleaner as they can’t open the windows on these older buses.ย Nothing gets older faster then the future. Listening to Me and Bobby McGee as I look at the increasingly green landscape around.๐ŸŽถ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 67 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 8am. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Definite improvement. That there, is more to go before summer is here. But I’m okay without the real hot weather for a while, especially before the pools open and the black fliesย  ๐Ÿœare out. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1991.

The sun will set at 8:12 pm with dusk around 8:44 pm, which is one minute and 2 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 60 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and one second over yesterday.

I’d love to get down to the park tonight, but I really have to work on the Pine Bush booth. ๐ŸŽจ I probably will end up walking down to the library to select and order the photos for updating the booth, ๐Ÿ–ผ and then tomorrow pick them up with some crayons.๐Ÿ– I am hoping I can do all of the ordering of printed material online. Lynne normally uses Kinkos on Wolf Road but I’d rather do it at Staples if possible to avoid the trip up there. I just got figure out how to order online.๐Ÿ–จ

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 18th. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1959. Farmers are planting some crops ๐ŸŒพ now as the risk of freezing is rarer, at least when it’s not raining.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. Gas Up day, putt, putt, bang! ๐Ÿšœ I haven’t totally decided if I will go to it this year, but I might go and then camp up on Cotton Hill, maybe back-country hammock camp or up in the lean-to. It could be a fun weekend.โ›บ I haven’t been out to Schoharie County since last September and some time out there might be fun.
