Good morning! Happy Sunday. Standard time returns today, it’s about 10 AM. Cloudy and 50 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 13 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 pm.

Off today with my mom and dad, an aunt to the aquarium in Rotterdam. I’ve been out that way many times heading up to the Adirondacks but never stopped in. Should be interesting. I also want some day — not today — to visit the Adirondack Wildlife Museum in Vails Mills to the Sportsman Hall fo Fame. Apparently it’s quite an interesting exihibit. Maybe when I go up to the Adirondacks sometime in November to camp and hunt.

Today will be scattered showers, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high of 56 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. South wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1994. 3 inches of snow fell back in 1894.

Tonight is the first evening of Standard Time, with the sun setting around 4:42 pm with dusk around 5:12 pm, which is one hour, one minute and 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for cloudy conditions and 55 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 15 mph with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly after 9pm. Cloudy, with a low of 56 degrees at 6pm. 23 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 11pm. South wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1951.

I am continuing to read about electronics and study up on possible Arduino projects I can build once my kit comes. I have so many great ideas on things I can build this winter, but I’m most looking forward to building the LED driver.

Last night I was reading about Roger LaPorte, the Catholic sementarian from Tupper Lake who doused himself with gasoline and burned to death in front of the United Nations back in November 9, 1965. He was the third American to undergo self-immolation to protest the Vietnam War. A great tragedy of that decade, all but lost to time and history. I stumbled upon this story reading about the Great Northeast Blackout, which occured one day later — and dominated the new cycle.

I got reading about the Great Northeast Blackout, after going out for my evening walk and looking up at the full Beaver Moon. Back in 1965, the Great Northeast Blackout which plunged 30 million Americans and Candians into darknesses occured during the Beaver Moon that year. Until 1965, most people didn’t think a small electrical failure could cascade over thousands of miles. And yes, I did have to play Jonathan King’s Everybody’s Gone to the Moon.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Cold Moon when the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, snow, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 42 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 2009.
