December 5, 2016 Morning

Good Monday Morning! Β Six weeks to Martin Luther King Day.Β Snow and 31 degrees in Delmar. There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. Snow is pushing out to the north east and will be ending shortly. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

Today will rain and snow before 11am, then a chance of rain between 11am and 5pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow after 5pm. High of 42 degrees at 2pm.Β Despite the snow, two degrees above normal. South wind around 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies and a high of 47 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 2001. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1902.

Definitely a cold and gray December day. I think this is the first snow of the year but the roads are just wet. I put my suit on for work as members are back in town. I don’t know if I will get out of work at five to take the express bus home but that’s fine. I’m not in a rush to get home, because by the time I’m home, it will be pitch black. In other words, it’s winter.

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 7 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 11 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 1 minutes and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 29 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. In 2015, it got down to 23 degrees with periods of fog. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1901.

As previously noted, there are 6 weeks until Martin Luther King Day when the sun will be setting at 4:49 pm with dusk at 5:20 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, snow and temperatures between 40 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 1995.

Installed a new smoke alarm in my apartment because I noticed that old one was malfunctioning. I could have called the landlord and had him do it, but I wanted one with a silence mode for when things start smoking when cooking. My stove burners smoke a little when I have a big pot on them and it’s annoying to have to kill all the power to everything upstairs as the provided alarm is hard-wired. It also doesn’t work during a power failure. Β I didn’t want to be without a working smoke detector because something like 3 out of 4 people who die in house fires because of a lack of defectors. And heck it was $8 and took five minutes to install.

Feeling fairly well rested this morning, although I was a bit groggy when I first got up. Such a dark morning with the snow. The one thing I forgot to buy this weekend was more coffee but I should have enough at home for the week, and if not, Stewart’s sells cans of coffee and they are only a buck more then the grocery store.
