Grooving along, living in the new world with Oliver Anthony

Songs about about of populism and nostalgia dominate the radio while people think back to the simpler more innocent times of the 2000s and 2010s when Climate Change induced storms didn’t lead the news headlines a leading presidential candidate wasn’t an octonian or an multi time indicted felon. As we count down the days until America turns 250 with all the signs and banners to be erected and days to be celebrated with fireworks and picnics.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly cloudy and 58 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. The skies will clear Saturday around 4 am.

Woke up early โฐ as I was asleep early at nine 9โƒฃ and made an omelet with chopped zucchini and tomatoes that I ran through the food processor with garlic and onion. Added a little bit of milk and corn starch to make the egg extra fluffy. Breakfast first then the walk. Normally I prefer the other order but it was dark out early.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly between noon and 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 69 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 28th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. South wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1947.

Maybe it won’t be a wash out today๐ŸŒง๏ธ but I think it probably best to take the bus ๐Ÿš in today to work as it likely will be rain by evening. I’ve also noticed a numbness in my finger tips ๐Ÿ–• and that’s a sign of carpal tunnel syndrome developing in my hands ๐Ÿ‘ by putting too much weight on them and pinching the nerves. Not as bad yesterday as I was more careful about putting so much weight on them heading home climbing that big hill out of gorge but I got to be careful about pinching the nerves and causing permanent damage needing surgery.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.5° from the due south horizon (-12.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:07 pm with the sun in the west (280°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (286°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:45 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:13 pm, which is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southwest (194°) at an altitude of 20° from the horizon, 234,641 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:51 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 34 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday I rode out to Voorheesville ๐Ÿš‚ along the rail trail and spent a little bit of time out at the park ๐Ÿž with a book before it got dark out. 25 miles ridden and 4 miles walked yesterday. Today I doubt ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ I’ll do much riding today but I’ll walk five miles plus do the stairs at the office. As previously noted, I was in bed before 9 PM and didn’t bother to watch the Republican debate. ๐Ÿ˜ It’s not like I plan to vote for any candidates, as I’m an enrolled Democrat and I think I prefer Biden over any of the GOP candidates, not that I’m a big lover of Biden either but he does seem to be doing some meaningful things on the environment and climate change — to say nothing of labor and civil rights. Maybe he’s the best option, but I’ll cast my protest vote come November 2024, as New York is almost certain to go blue regardless of my vote. ๐Ÿ’™

Oliver Anthony’s Rich Men North of Richmond, ๐ŸŽค might be rocking the country charts, with it’s anti-establishment critical view of what’s happening in our government, but he also has a pretty good mixture of other songs worth listening to even if you don’t like his controversial lyrics for putting the government in a bad light. ๐Ÿฐ I was listening to more of his songs, and really enjoying it. There is a lot of other good artists over at RadioWV.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 63 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 1am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1940.

Been researching how to bake bread ๐Ÿž as I am thinking from fresh homemade bread would be good come this winter, and I could make it with less oil and sugar then many of the commercial breads. Not looking at recipes that much, but trying to learn how all the ingredients play together and alternative forms of bread, especially whole grains and oatmeal. ๐ŸŒฟ Thinking it would be good with a good split-pea or other homemade soup, or dipped in extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Already using balsamic vinegar for acidity in many of my foods, it really gives a lot of meals a lot of extra flavor.

Back in 1967, the Yippies of Abbie Hoffman’s Youth International Party temporarily disrupts trading at the New York Stock Exchange by throwing dollar bills from the viewing gallery, ๐Ÿ’ต ๐Ÿคก ๐Ÿ’ธ causing trading to cease as brokers scramble to grab them. As they say, it’s all about the money. Or something like that Dan Halloran said in his bid to sell the NYC Mayorship. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš–๏ธ Money matters a lot, it’s a way to get a lot of things done.

Weekend forecast is improving. โ˜บ Saturday, a slight chance of showers between 8am and 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 59 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Columbus Day โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ when the sun will be setting at 6:20 pm with dusk at 6:47 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 71 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1954.

Pond's Edge

December 23, 2022 Evening

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 20 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a west-southwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 37 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 6. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground — the rain didn’t kill that off. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Wednesday around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ The warmer weather and rain heading into New Years Eve might kill it off though. Plus a fresh coating of black ice and slipperiness outside this evening, though I stayed home today so I don’t really know. Turned up the heat a bit tonight, maybe too much with the cold, but maybe I’ll put it back down before bed. Doesn’t need to be set at 55 degrees, I can do 50 and lower heating bills. I’ll leave the cabinets open before bed. It’s not like sub-zero weather tonight. Wind has died down a lot.

Yesterday I got home fairly early, ๐Ÿ˜ and got unpacked from camping. I wanted nothing to do with driving home in the rain and snow that was predicted, especially as the day predicted. Plus my ski boots were frozen hard from the cold so I couldn’t get them on my feet โ›ท and the surface voltage on my starting battery ๐Ÿ”‹ was starting to make me a bit nervous on my truck, so as soon as I packed up I headed home. I thought about, and probably should have used my hunting boots and hiked up to see the Rensselaerville Falls but parking was limited in the hamlet due to the snow banks, and I simply was in the mood to get home, get unpacked before the heavy driving rain came in. It came but was later then I thought at first.

Wednesday was absolutely a perfect day for winter camping, โ„๏ธ lots of sun, a reasonable amount of snow, and no wind. It was cold enough, but not too cold that the snow wasn’t melting. โ›ท Places though where a trail wasn’t well packed down from snowmobiles, like the parameter trail at Rennselaerville State Forest proved to be a lot more difficult skiing then I had hoped. But for winter camping, the weather was awesome. Wednesday night was mild, a nice night by the campfire, but it did get dark early.

Thursday was dreary, much like today ๐ŸŒง and I spent the final two days of my vacation at home. I wanted to get to the library ๐Ÿ“š this evening but they closed early due to the icing of the roads. ๐ŸŒจ I am sure the librarians appreciated being able to head home early into the holiday weekend. They are also closed on Monday after Christmas. It’s fine, I have the hotspot I can use at home. ๐Ÿคณ Going to be cold but I will try to bundle up and get some steps in over the holiday weekend. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Probably could go to Five Rivers with just the microspikes this weekend, which means I wouldn’t have to drive or take the skis there. I probably should have been more active the past two days, but while camping, it was a ton of work, especially shoveling that heavy, deep wet snow to park my truck and clear out camp, then trudging the skis through the deep snow.

Today was quiet, ๐Ÿ“— some reading and FreeCodeCamp and too much time probably wasted on Youtube and working on various R graphs and charts. I finished up the Web Libraries class, though I still have to do the projects. ๐Ÿค– I really don’t enjoy this unit, and while I started a bit on the web visualization class — which I think may be more interesting, I shouldn’t get too far ahead of myself. Reading another book about probability and how people always get large numbers wrong.

Had a surprise expense on my credit card ๐Ÿ˜ฑ which had me worried for $21 dollars. I had forgotten I got my truck inspected last week. ๐Ÿ” Truck passed inspection, despite the trailer hitch among other things beings a rusty mess under the frame. I do need to wash the truck again. It’s getting old, but with the passed inspection, I’m hopeful to get it through one more year. I am going to cut back on driving and trips next summer again, because of my truck getting older, high gas prices, and because I want to keep my focus on growing my investments and retirement. I had a good year this year, and I know if I keep my eyes on the prize ๐Ÿšœ I can get to a better tomorrow.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 8 degrees at 2am. 13 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -6 at 1am; Southwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. In 2021, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1989. Cold night ahead. Maybe this the cold moon, with none in sight.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 0% illuminated. Not going to see the stars either — with those clouds. The Wolf ๐Ÿบ Moon is on Friday, January 6. The darkest hour is at 11:55 pm, followed by dawn at 6:52 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:24 am in the east-southeast (122ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Sunrise is 27 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:10 am with sun in the southeast (130ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 8 seconds over last night.

Made my final investment and retirement account payment for the year today. ๐Ÿ’ธ I think I ended up investing $52,000 for the year, maxing out my Roth IRA, 457B retirement accounts and increasing my stock and bond portfolio quite a bit, skipping savings, due to the low interest rates and inflation. Still, my next worth ended up farther in the red this year then I would have liked due to the heavy hit on both the stock and bond markets from the rising fed rates. ๐Ÿ“‰ Killing inflation, before it gets out of hand has to be priority, and the way I look at it, I probably got good deals this year. But who knows, we might have a recession next year, and things decline further. But I think I did good, even if it was kind of a tough year with inflation, high gas prices, and finding myself sticking closer to home then I would have hoped for much of the year.

People say that I should spend more money ๐Ÿ’ต and buy more garbage but I am concerned that I’m falling farther and farther behind in life and that I’m not going to have a secure ๐Ÿ” future. So much of the things I own are worn out and taped together, despite my good paying job. My apartment is such a dump. But I hear about so many seniors ๐Ÿง“ living in poverty and not being able to afford to retire and that is not the life I want to live. Plus all my friends and colleagues are buying houses and homesteads and I don’t have that kind of money yet saved up, at least not in cash and I don’t borrow. I just hate throwing away money and my future ๐Ÿ”ฎ like so many do these days. I really do want to own my own land ๐Ÿšœ.

Christmas Eve will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 17 degrees at 2pm. 19 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -5 at 6am; Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 29 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 2015. 13.0 inches of snow fell back in 1966.โ„

Heading out to the folks house ๐Ÿคถ for a Christmas Eve lunch with my niece and parents, and then who knows what I will do later, probably just head home because it’s cold out. But I do need to get back out and start doing my steps again. I’ve done so bad this week, with the rain and cold. To be fair, several of those days though I was out camping. And I did spend a lot of time updating and working on my blog.

No jury duty next week, ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ and only one final week of the federal jury term remaining after New Years Eve. Maybe I’ll never get called in. At least I will be able to be in the office next week, when I’m the only supervisor that will be in my unit. I enjoyed my week off — well the best based on the weather — and now the other director is off next week. Will be a busy week for me, despite only being a four-day week. Who knows on jury duty โš– though – I think the federal term will get me off from the state, but I also know I have state deferral that they might try to get me for if I don’t serve. I almost wish I would get called in for a day to be certain.

In four weeks on January 20 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) at 4:54 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 26 minutes and 54 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 53 degrees was set back in 2006.

I do want to get out camping again ๐Ÿ• maybe for New Years Eve, or Martin Luther King Day Weekend which is now three weeks off. Maybe take off the Friday before the holiday weekend to get in three nights of camping. For NYE, if there isn’t too much snow, I would like to go out to Brookfield Horse Camp, ๐Ÿด otherwise I might do Cole Hill or another state forest. Maybe for MLK weekend, I would do Renselaerville State Forest again and ski there again. โ›ท

Looking ahead, tomorrow is Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ…, Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is Next Friday and Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is Next Friday.

November 17, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to December ๐ŸŽ„. Cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

This is the middle of November ๐Ÿฆƒ so cool and cloudy weather is to be expected. ๐ŸŒฅ Out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป, and it’s cool and gray but generally pleasant for the second half of November. A week from today will be the Tuesday before Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ. Listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s Cloudy.

Not AN ILLEGAL! At least when it comes to my truck. I got my new registration sticker on my truck ๐Ÿ“œ and my truck passed inspection but I have to go back to the shop for the sticker later in the week. Annoying that they haven’t gotten the stickers after the November 3rd rush but they said it would take two minutes to get the inspection finished later in the week but everything looked good. At any rate, it buys me time โŒš. At some point I’ll have to make a decision about the tires and probably the worn struts and the wheel bearing that I think is going although it might just be the wear noise of the tires.

Been doing a lot of research on internet options for January should the pandemic continue along for remote work ๐Ÿ’ป from home. I am thinking if I can reduce my data service on my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ I can cover at least some of the cost. I just don’t think it’s practical to work in my truck from the library when it’s negative 20 out and I don’t want to screw up my good job because I’m so damn stubborn about technology. ๐Ÿ™„My phone plan expires in December, so I could cut down the data plan to save money there. I’ll probably have to reduce my monthly savings goals but I don’t want to kill the golden cow ๐Ÿฎ. At any rate, I would get the most basic and cheapest plan if I had to get it.

Plus it would be a heck of a lot easier than using the USB cable ๐Ÿ”Œ to transfer files ๐Ÿ“‚ between my phone ๐Ÿ“ฒ and the laptop ๐Ÿ’ป whenever I need a file between the two. It works but it’s kind of cumbersome to say the least. Plus then I could build smart ๐Ÿง  devices using microprocessors to pull data from the internet. On the other hand, I would miss my walks to the library and the park ๐Ÿž to get podcasts and other files.

I am working on a new chart ๐Ÿ“Š uploader for the blog that will allow me to directly upload CSV files saved from Open Office or Microsoft Excel and use them as graphs on the blog. That means I can create new graphs directly from my phone or any other computer ๐Ÿ–ฅ I may be on.

Those Kinzua and Allegheny Reservoir aerial photos ๐Ÿ—บ I’ve been going through are quite interesting, I am going to do some more work on them and eventually post some historical comparisons. ๐Ÿ“š Neat stuff.

Today will have a chance of rain and snow before 10am, then a chance of rain between 10am and 5pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow after 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 29th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1928. 2.8 inches of snow fell back in 1992.โ„

Today I decided to do the virtual meeting route from the library ๐Ÿ’ป rather than go downtown in part because I feel a bit congested in my nose. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป I’m sure it’s just allergies now that windows are closed but everybody else will believe it’s the Corona ๐Ÿ‘พ even though I haven’t been drinking ๐Ÿป at all lately and have been mostly anti-social. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:32 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 50 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (218ยฐ) at an altitude of 13ยฐ from the horizon, 231,656 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:37 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 23 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 10th. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 10 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow is going to be bitterly cold โ„. I am not prepared for winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ but I have to admit that for the morning walk and evening walk ๐ŸงฃI wore my heavy Carhartt. I will have to leave the heat turned up tonight before bed so things don’t get too cold by mid night.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 53. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

This weekend I will probably stay in town, ๐Ÿก just because next weekend after Thanksgiving I might do a three day Buy Nothing Weekend trip to the Adirondacks. Sure I could probably work remotely from the library on that following in Speculator but the sun sets early this time of year. And I don’t want to drive home from the Adirondacks during the rut in the darkness.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until December ๐ŸŽ„ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow and temperatures between 28 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

 Morning At Camp

November 14, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Its the weekend in Biden’s ‘merica! No malarkey allowed. Working from home it doesn’t seem like that big of a change but I don’t have to check my work email as much on Saturday. ๐Ÿ“ง Next Saturday is Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ. Pow! Pow! Overcast and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Had a nice big ol pile of pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast, and coffee โ˜•. Breakfast was good. I’ve been having a lot of eggs and cereal ๐Ÿฅฃ lately so pancakes topped with frozen cherries ๐Ÿ’ is a good change. Lately frozen cherries have been my snack of choice – fairly healthy and they help reduce achiness now that I’m cooped ๐Ÿ” up in my apartment with November underway.

Trimmed my hair ๐Ÿ’‡๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ up again. I like being able to keep my hair a consistent length without the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆand then I can also compost or burn the waste hair. I don’t like when my hair gets too long and curly or gets matted from mud and sweat especially in the woods – and these days working remotely I don’t shower as much. ๐Ÿšฟ Last shower I took was Tuesday. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐ŸปBathing ๐Ÿ›€ is nice, start to smell after a while.

I survived Friday the 13th in 2020 and both went for a morning and evening walk. Yesterday wasn’t a terrible day but it was cloudy and boring ๐Ÿ’ค working from home. I haven’t been on the Wi-Fi since Tuesday so I’m out of podcasts and videos to watch ๐Ÿ“บ but I guess that’s a good thing. I’ve been finding and downloading Coronavirus data and using it to make maps ๐Ÿ—บ and charts for the blog.

Been trying to get up and around more to avid getting so stiff and sore from my uncomfortable home work chair. ๐Ÿ’บ My neck and back have been feeling a lot better ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป since I’ve been making stretching activities during the work day more of a priority. At times now I stand at work or kneel on my knees at the desk to improve my posture.

Today will be cloudy โ˜๏ธ, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 20th. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„ I heard maybe some snow flurries today but no big snow storms right away.

I am hoping it will clear out soon โ›… so it’s nice when I walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ. I know I need to leave relatively early today as it gets dark, early. Plus my battery ๐Ÿ”‹ bank is low on the truck so I want it to be topped off before I start my truck on Sunday to go out to the folks house. I haven’t driven anywhere since Monday at this point – which used to be the norm for me most weeks but since the pandemic started I’ve been driving ๐Ÿš˜ down to the library more to work with the Wi-Fi. ๐Ÿฆ‰

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 29ยฐ from the due south horizon (-41.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:52 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 55 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:39 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 27 degrees at 2am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 30th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 1939.

Cold but not unreasonable tonight. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I am sure I’ll probably go for a nice walk late this evening and maybe listen ๐ŸŽง to podcasts I downloaded while I’m at the Five Rivers Wi-Fi.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 1990.

NY 280

August 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 58 degrees. ๐ŸŒƒ Another quite pleasant mid summer evening with the crickets ๐Ÿฆ— singing their song. ๐ŸŽถ

Called the forest service today ๐ŸŒฒ to confirm that camping ๐Ÿ• was still open after the earlier Coronavirus closure. It is.. Did some packing but the first half of the day I was super groggy for unknown reasons. ๐Ÿ˜ด Didn’t do the laundry ๐Ÿ‘š as I figured do it all on Friday while I work before heading out in the evening. Assuming tomorrow evening isn’t a complete washout.

I discovered I had accidentally deleted the code that allows me to display charts ๐Ÿ“Š and history comparisons today but if you hit refresh ๐Ÿ”„ that should be good now. Also uploaded a few other new things. Then it was a busy afternoon at work, getting things lined up before vacation. ๐Ÿ– Went to the Town Park and worked on the blog for a bit.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 58 degrees at 3am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 27th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 9pm. Light north wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies. It was sticky. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1994.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 88% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:08 pm. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 5:22 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:54 am in the east-northeast (66ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:33 am with sun in the east-northeast (73ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 20 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 5th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6pm. Light and variable wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 102 was set in 1918.

I started packing this evening and doing some cleaning during the downtime today. ๐Ÿงน The beer ๐Ÿป is in the fridge being chilled, I started packing clothes ๐Ÿ‘– and the water containers are loaded in the truck. I’ll do the kayak ๐Ÿ›ถ and propane tomorrow.

I am thinking of leaving tomorrow after work for Madison County ๐Ÿฎ but I might not leave until Saturday morning early if Friday night is going to be a real washout. While I’d rather be farther west and break the trip up going out there not if it means camping the first night in the pouring rain. โ›ˆ๏ธ I don’t want to get soaked my first night of camping. Still thinking about the mid state route via NY 13 and Cortland.

Weather looks pretty good for next week ๐Ÿ‘Œbased on the at least some forecast models but others show more clouds ๐ŸŒฅ and rain. It’s summer and it’s a crap shoot but if the weather is too bad I’ll just stay in camp and read ๐Ÿ“–. Nice thing about the National Forest is you can camp for up to two weeks, no permit needed.

Been drinking a lot more water ๐Ÿฅค with lemon juice in it. ๐Ÿ‹ Much healthier than all that apple ๐Ÿ juice I’ve been drinking lately. No sugar in it although I’m sure the acid ain’t great for the teeth but I still drink plenty of milk. ๐Ÿฅ›Plus a whole lot less plastic trash. โ™ป

In four weeks on September 3 the sun will be setting in the west (281ยฐ) at 7:25 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 43 minutes and 17 seconds earlier then tonight. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1953.

Looking ahead, 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 5 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 6 weeks, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ and Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 8 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 10 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 16 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 4 months, Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is in 4 months, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 20 weeks, New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† is in 21 weeks, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 23 weeks, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 25 weeks, Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 6 months, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 27 weeks and National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 28 weeks.

August 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly cloudy and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒฅ๏ธCalm wind. The dew point is 58 degrees. After a quite cloudy morning it’s clearing out a bit.

Today I’m working on getting packed for my trip out to the Finger Lakes. โ›บ I was thinking originally about leaving tomorrow before work but I think I will actually go after work. It looks like it’s going to be pretty cloudy and icky tomorrow actually. I would work remotely from camp tomorrow but I don’t want to work in the rain if I can and I’ll avoid it. I actually have quite a bit of stuff to do tomorrow.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 24th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 10am. West wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1900.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:31 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:10 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:40 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:20 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 21 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 62 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 7pm. Light northwest wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies. It was sticky. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1994.

I realize cleaning up my blog yesterday I accidentally deleted the code that makes the charts display so it’s been noticed but I don’t know if there’s been no charts on the blog today. ๐Ÿ“ I also fix some other mistakes and issues with the blog. I don’t know if I can go to the library to update the blog out there but I won’t be able to use my phone because because it probably is closed through the Coronavirus. that’s it still good to get away and I shouldn’t have to work next week because I actually had the really the days off.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

After Friday it should be a pretty nice weekend. โ˜บ But I’m still thinking I’ll probably leave Friday as that breaks up the trip to the Finger Lakes and gives me more chances to stop. ๐Ÿš˜ I’m thinking of taking the mid state route this time down NY 13 through Cortland and Ithaca this time, maybe stopping at a few parks and scenic visits. ๐Ÿž I’m not totally set on the route yet.

Hot but nice morning
