August 16, 2017 – Next Sixteen Weeks

As we head into the second half of August, average temperatures are dropping, with only one more week where the average temperature will be 80 or above. That said, we can still have very warm days — 100 degree weather in September is not unheard of — but is rare. September 9, 2016 was 89 degrees. Sunset times have already started to come much earlier, 33 minutes earlier then late June — and will only continueΒ to get earlier.

May 14, 2017 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 53 degrees in Delmar. There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. The dew point is 44 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 6 pm.

Tonight will have a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low of 47 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 39 degrees with rain and mostly cloudy skies. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1977.

Waning Gibbous Moon tonight with 73% illuminated. You should see it around morning once the clouds push off. The Last Quarter Moon is on Friday night with partly cloudy expected. The Full β€œStrawberry” Moon is on Friday, June 9th. The sun will rise at 5:33 am with the first light at 5:00 am, which is one minute and 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 9 hours and 21 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly before 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal. Breezy, with a northwest wind 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had rain, mostly cloudy skies and a high of 52 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

Going to warm up and be sunny by mid week. Maybe hit 90. I’ll see what the impact of the landlord cutting all of the various trees in the yard will be, although honestly I think that by the time I get home most nights the sun will be below the tree line. Not going to be really humid this week although possibly some more muggy air could push in on Thursday. Have to watch it.

Next weekend looks like it might be perfect weather-wise. Next Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6pm. Next Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees. Too bad that’s the weekend I have to work. More than a little annoyed but work is important as pays for ammunition, beer, gasoline, jacked up trucks and guns. But maybe it will be a pattern lasting for most of the summer. I’m hoping for some really nice summer weekends.

In four weeks on June 11 the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm, which is 22 minutes and 56 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had thunderstorm, thunderstorm rain, rain, fog, shallow fog, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 68 and 45 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 55 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1947.

As you can see who follow me on Facebook, I’m reconnected between the blog and the Facebook site. I hate messing with the Facebook API which always seems to be changing and breaking things unnecessarily. Still image previews are broken, I got to research that further.

I’ve been researching adding preview images for graphics and Google Maps that I make but that requires a screenshot be rendered and that is a bit more difficult than might appear at first glance. That said it’s in my long term list of coding projects.

More charts and maps of school funding data coming up this week for you to play with as our local school district votes come up. It’s important to participate in our democratic process so get out and vote on Tuesday.

Looking ahead, Flag Day is in 1 month, Father’s Day is in 5 weeks, Buck Moon is in 8 weeks, National Nude Day is in 2 months, National Cheese Cake Day is in 11 weeks, 7 PM Sunset is in 18 weeks, Average High is 60 is in 22 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends is in 25 weeks, Average High is 40 is in 6 months, Cold Moon is in 29 weeks and New Years Eve is in 33 weeks. March 8, 2017 – Next Sixteen Weeks

Now that we are well into the second week of the month of March, below zero weather is mostly a memory. It sometimes get cold in March, but not that cold, and indeed both the temperatures and day length are rapidly increasing — 3 degrees and 20 minutes a week. In three short weeks, the average temperature will reach 50 degrees, and in five weeks, dusk won’t be until after 8 PM. By April 3rd, the low temperature in Albany is above freezing, although we can still get a decent frost in Albany until May.

March 2, 2017 – Next Sixteen Weeks

The next few days will be pretty cool, with temperatures running 5-10 degrees below normal with a stiff breeze to keep people bundled up. Β The next day we will hit fifty degrees will not be until next Tuesday. But it’s still early March, so colder weather is not unusual. The good news is that in four weeks — by the end of March — temperatures quickly moderate, and in the last three weeks of March, temperatures exceeding 80 degrees are not unheard of. By April 6th, a typical night no longer gets below freezing. And come June, it gets very nice out, as the black flies eat you alive.
