December 23, 2022 Evening

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 20 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a west-southwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 37 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 6. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground — the rain didn’t kill that off. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Wednesday around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ The warmer weather and rain heading into New Years Eve might kill it off though. Plus a fresh coating of black ice and slipperiness outside this evening, though I stayed home today so I don’t really know. Turned up the heat a bit tonight, maybe too much with the cold, but maybe I’ll put it back down before bed. Doesn’t need to be set at 55 degrees, I can do 50 and lower heating bills. I’ll leave the cabinets open before bed. It’s not like sub-zero weather tonight. Wind has died down a lot.

Yesterday I got home fairly early, ๐Ÿ˜ and got unpacked from camping. I wanted nothing to do with driving home in the rain and snow that was predicted, especially as the day predicted. Plus my ski boots were frozen hard from the cold so I couldn’t get them on my feet โ›ท and the surface voltage on my starting battery ๐Ÿ”‹ was starting to make me a bit nervous on my truck, so as soon as I packed up I headed home. I thought about, and probably should have used my hunting boots and hiked up to see the Rensselaerville Falls but parking was limited in the hamlet due to the snow banks, and I simply was in the mood to get home, get unpacked before the heavy driving rain came in. It came but was later then I thought at first.

Wednesday was absolutely a perfect day for winter camping, โ„๏ธ lots of sun, a reasonable amount of snow, and no wind. It was cold enough, but not too cold that the snow wasn’t melting. โ›ท Places though where a trail wasn’t well packed down from snowmobiles, like the parameter trail at Rennselaerville State Forest proved to be a lot more difficult skiing then I had hoped. But for winter camping, the weather was awesome. Wednesday night was mild, a nice night by the campfire, but it did get dark early.

Thursday was dreary, much like today ๐ŸŒง and I spent the final two days of my vacation at home. I wanted to get to the library ๐Ÿ“š this evening but they closed early due to the icing of the roads. ๐ŸŒจ I am sure the librarians appreciated being able to head home early into the holiday weekend. They are also closed on Monday after Christmas. It’s fine, I have the hotspot I can use at home. ๐Ÿคณ Going to be cold but I will try to bundle up and get some steps in over the holiday weekend. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Probably could go to Five Rivers with just the microspikes this weekend, which means I wouldn’t have to drive or take the skis there. I probably should have been more active the past two days, but while camping, it was a ton of work, especially shoveling that heavy, deep wet snow to park my truck and clear out camp, then trudging the skis through the deep snow.

Today was quiet, ๐Ÿ“— some reading and FreeCodeCamp and too much time probably wasted on Youtube and working on various R graphs and charts. I finished up the Web Libraries class, though I still have to do the projects. ๐Ÿค– I really don’t enjoy this unit, and while I started a bit on the web visualization class — which I think may be more interesting, I shouldn’t get too far ahead of myself. Reading another book about probability and how people always get large numbers wrong.

Had a surprise expense on my credit card ๐Ÿ˜ฑ which had me worried for $21 dollars. I had forgotten I got my truck inspected last week. ๐Ÿ” Truck passed inspection, despite the trailer hitch among other things beings a rusty mess under the frame. I do need to wash the truck again. It’s getting old, but with the passed inspection, I’m hopeful to get it through one more year. I am going to cut back on driving and trips next summer again, because of my truck getting older, high gas prices, and because I want to keep my focus on growing my investments and retirement. I had a good year this year, and I know if I keep my eyes on the prize ๐Ÿšœ I can get to a better tomorrow.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 8 degrees at 2am. 13 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -6 at 1am; Southwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. In 2021, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1989. Cold night ahead. Maybe this the cold moon, with none in sight.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 0% illuminated. Not going to see the stars either — with those clouds. The Wolf ๐Ÿบ Moon is on Friday, January 6. The darkest hour is at 11:55 pm, followed by dawn at 6:52 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:24 am in the east-southeast (122ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Sunrise is 27 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:10 am with sun in the southeast (130ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 8 seconds over last night.

Made my final investment and retirement account payment for the year today. ๐Ÿ’ธ I think I ended up investing $52,000 for the year, maxing out my Roth IRA, 457B retirement accounts and increasing my stock and bond portfolio quite a bit, skipping savings, due to the low interest rates and inflation. Still, my next worth ended up farther in the red this year then I would have liked due to the heavy hit on both the stock and bond markets from the rising fed rates. ๐Ÿ“‰ Killing inflation, before it gets out of hand has to be priority, and the way I look at it, I probably got good deals this year. But who knows, we might have a recession next year, and things decline further. But I think I did good, even if it was kind of a tough year with inflation, high gas prices, and finding myself sticking closer to home then I would have hoped for much of the year.

People say that I should spend more money ๐Ÿ’ต and buy more garbage but I am concerned that I’m falling farther and farther behind in life and that I’m not going to have a secure ๐Ÿ” future. So much of the things I own are worn out and taped together, despite my good paying job. My apartment is such a dump. But I hear about so many seniors ๐Ÿง“ living in poverty and not being able to afford to retire and that is not the life I want to live. Plus all my friends and colleagues are buying houses and homesteads and I don’t have that kind of money yet saved up, at least not in cash and I don’t borrow. I just hate throwing away money and my future ๐Ÿ”ฎ like so many do these days. I really do want to own my own land ๐Ÿšœ.

Christmas Eve will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 17 degrees at 2pm. 19 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -5 at 6am; Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 29 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 2015. 13.0 inches of snow fell back in 1966.โ„

Heading out to the folks house ๐Ÿคถ for a Christmas Eve lunch with my niece and parents, and then who knows what I will do later, probably just head home because it’s cold out. But I do need to get back out and start doing my steps again. I’ve done so bad this week, with the rain and cold. To be fair, several of those days though I was out camping. And I did spend a lot of time updating and working on my blog.

No jury duty next week, ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ and only one final week of the federal jury term remaining after New Years Eve. Maybe I’ll never get called in. At least I will be able to be in the office next week, when I’m the only supervisor that will be in my unit. I enjoyed my week off — well the best based on the weather — and now the other director is off next week. Will be a busy week for me, despite only being a four-day week. Who knows on jury duty โš– though – I think the federal term will get me off from the state, but I also know I have state deferral that they might try to get me for if I don’t serve. I almost wish I would get called in for a day to be certain.

In four weeks on January 20 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) at 4:54 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 26 minutes and 54 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 53 degrees was set back in 2006.

I do want to get out camping again ๐Ÿ• maybe for New Years Eve, or Martin Luther King Day Weekend which is now three weeks off. Maybe take off the Friday before the holiday weekend to get in three nights of camping. For NYE, if there isn’t too much snow, I would like to go out to Brookfield Horse Camp, ๐Ÿด otherwise I might do Cole Hill or another state forest. Maybe for MLK weekend, I would do Renselaerville State Forest again and ski there again. โ›ท

Looking ahead, tomorrow is Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ…, Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is Next Friday and Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is Next Friday.

November 17, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to December ๐ŸŽ„. Cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

This is the middle of November ๐Ÿฆƒ so cool and cloudy weather is to be expected. ๐ŸŒฅ Out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป, and it’s cool and gray but generally pleasant for the second half of November. A week from today will be the Tuesday before Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ. Listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s Cloudy.

Not AN ILLEGAL! At least when it comes to my truck. I got my new registration sticker on my truck ๐Ÿ“œ and my truck passed inspection but I have to go back to the shop for the sticker later in the week. Annoying that they haven’t gotten the stickers after the November 3rd rush but they said it would take two minutes to get the inspection finished later in the week but everything looked good. At any rate, it buys me time โŒš. At some point I’ll have to make a decision about the tires and probably the worn struts and the wheel bearing that I think is going although it might just be the wear noise of the tires.

Been doing a lot of research on internet options for January should the pandemic continue along for remote work ๐Ÿ’ป from home. I am thinking if I can reduce my data service on my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ I can cover at least some of the cost. I just don’t think it’s practical to work in my truck from the library when it’s negative 20 out and I don’t want to screw up my good job because I’m so damn stubborn about technology. ๐Ÿ™„My phone plan expires in December, so I could cut down the data plan to save money there. I’ll probably have to reduce my monthly savings goals but I don’t want to kill the golden cow ๐Ÿฎ. At any rate, I would get the most basic and cheapest plan if I had to get it.

Plus it would be a heck of a lot easier than using the USB cable ๐Ÿ”Œ to transfer files ๐Ÿ“‚ between my phone ๐Ÿ“ฒ and the laptop ๐Ÿ’ป whenever I need a file between the two. It works but it’s kind of cumbersome to say the least. Plus then I could build smart ๐Ÿง  devices using microprocessors to pull data from the internet. On the other hand, I would miss my walks to the library and the park ๐Ÿž to get podcasts and other files.

I am working on a new chart ๐Ÿ“Š uploader for the blog that will allow me to directly upload CSV files saved from Open Office or Microsoft Excel and use them as graphs on the blog. That means I can create new graphs directly from my phone or any other computer ๐Ÿ–ฅ I may be on.

Those Kinzua and Allegheny Reservoir aerial photos ๐Ÿ—บ I’ve been going through are quite interesting, I am going to do some more work on them and eventually post some historical comparisons. ๐Ÿ“š Neat stuff.

Today will have a chance of rain and snow before 10am, then a chance of rain between 10am and 5pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow after 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 29th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1928. 2.8 inches of snow fell back in 1992.โ„

Today I decided to do the virtual meeting route from the library ๐Ÿ’ป rather than go downtown in part because I feel a bit congested in my nose. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป I’m sure it’s just allergies now that windows are closed but everybody else will believe it’s the Corona ๐Ÿ‘พ even though I haven’t been drinking ๐Ÿป at all lately and have been mostly anti-social. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:32 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 50 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (218ยฐ) at an altitude of 13ยฐ from the horizon, 231,656 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:37 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 23 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 10th. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 10 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow is going to be bitterly cold โ„. I am not prepared for winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ but I have to admit that for the morning walk and evening walk ๐ŸงฃI wore my heavy Carhartt. I will have to leave the heat turned up tonight before bed so things don’t get too cold by mid night.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 53. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

This weekend I will probably stay in town, ๐Ÿก just because next weekend after Thanksgiving I might do a three day Buy Nothing Weekend trip to the Adirondacks. Sure I could probably work remotely from the library on that following in Speculator but the sun sets early this time of year. And I don’t want to drive home from the Adirondacks during the rut in the darkness.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until December ๐ŸŽ„ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow and temperatures between 28 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

 Morning At Camp

January 28, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Final full day I’m 36 years old. Tomorrow at 5:28 am or something like that according to my birth certificate, which is handwritten but not fake, I’ll be 37. Two weeks to Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ›. I don’t know, rancid milk can be pretty pungent ๐Ÿ‘ƒ, says the dirty hick that I am. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ Cloudy in Trump’s America and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY, as I take the old hybrid bus from 2010 downtown. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Yes, I learned my lesson from yesterday and took the earlier bus ๐Ÿš downtown. Its a bit annoying because this bus gets me to work much earlier than necessary but at least I won’t clock in late ๐Ÿ•’ and then have to stay late to get my seven and a half in. It’s tough with the 20 minute headway on the bus ๐Ÿš, I preferred it when they had the 15 minute headway but they’re wasn’t enough ridership to justify that level of service during the morning rush hour.

I was a bit worried I was getting a cold again ๐Ÿ˜ท after hearing John Wolcott was feeling sick again but I’m okay this morning. I sure hope I don’t get sick any time soon. I try to be a lot better washing my hands, but it can be difficult to do good handwashing practices.

Today will have isolated snow showers before 11am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 26th. Northwest wind 8 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1916. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1897.โ„

This morning I realized that I forgot to get pan spray ๐Ÿณ the last time I was at the store but I have my dentist appointment on Thursday so I’ll get it then. Kind of essential for making waffles. I think I will drive to the dentist just based on the timing of things. I also wanted to get another set of Bluetooth headphones ๐ŸŽง and more drain solvent so I had plenty in stock the last time I went to Wally World but they didn’t have it in stock..

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-41.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). Adding sun angle quickly at this point, so when we get a bright sunny day it’s bound not to be quite as cold out as only a few weeks ago. You saw the February average high chart ๐Ÿ“Š I posted yesterday – it’s a steady climb through March.

The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:21 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) starting at 5:00 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:33 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (222ยฐ) at an altitude of 31ยฐ from the horizon, 252,182 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:07 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 12 seconds over yesterday. Definitely getting longer.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. Maximum wind chill around 12 at 6am; Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 5 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1925.

While Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be quite nice, clouds and some rain or snow showers for the weekend. โ˜” Saturday, a chance of snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. At least another mild weekend is on tap, good for the heating bills. The woods might be super sloppy again this weekend after the rain but maybe I can road hike at Partridge Run or maybe in the Albany Pine Bush where the sand rarely gets muddy.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 51 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

In other words, tomorrow marks 50 days until calendar spring. ๐Ÿ“… As that song by Godspell Soundtrack says, Day by Day.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1981.

January 7, 2020 – Next Sixteen Weeks

Next week is typically the coldest week of the year, ๐ŸŒจ with the temperatures starting to moderate slightly thereafter as we head towards February. Notice how much later the sun is setting now, and how quickly the temperature will start rising a month out from now, as we start to climb towards the first day of spring. I know I will be looking forward to those longer days.๐ŸŒธ

January 26, 2018 – Next Sixteen Weeks

Slowly but surely we are climbing out of the deep and dark of winter. At this point average temperatures will be increasing about a degree each week, then will start accelerating as we get to mid-February as spring approaches. When March gets underway, days in the 40s will not be uncommon and by April many days may hit the fifties. It’s called spring, and it eventually thaws out.

In the evening, you will notice we are past the five PM sunset, with daylight growing to 10 hours a day by next week. Seven weeks out from now will be daylight savings time with it not getting pitch black until well into the seven o’clock hour.

Good afternoon! Mostly cloudy and 39 degrees in Delmar. There is a west breeze at 10 mph. The skies will clear around 6 pm. It’s been a pretty gray, but I spent sometime playing with some code for the blog, got a haircut and some time cleaning and painting. Made some new maps and content for the blog, and finished fixing some minor bugs I discovered with the roll out of the ChartJS plugin I wrote for the blog. I would go out hiking, but it’s kind of cool and gray, and with the crusty nasty snow, it’s not good for hiking or even skiing. Tomorrow, I do plan get out hiking somewhere tough. Been saving a lot of miles on my truck, not going that much this winter.

The sun will set at 5:04 pm with dusk around 5:34 pm, which is 1 minutes and 18 seconds later than yesterday. Days are getting longer for sure, especially in the evening — although some sun would be nice for sunset. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 36 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 7 mph.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal. South wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2016, it got down to 25 degrees with periods of snow. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1925.

Waxing Crescent Moon tonight with 9% illuminated. The moon will set around 8:01 pm. The First Quarter Moon is next Saturday with partly cloudy skies expected. The Full โ€œSnowโ€ Moon is in 2 weeks. The sun will rise at 7:11 am with the first light at 6:41 am, which is 57 seconds earlier then yesterday. Tonight will have 14 hours and 6 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow showers between 11am and 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal. South wind 7 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had snow and a high of 38 degrees. The record high of 54 was set in 2002. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1990.

Finally decided to take action on the rust on my refrigerator in my apartment. I bought some primer and paint, and it seems like it is going to match close enough that my landlord will never know the refrigerator was painted. It’s coming out well and I only gotten primer on, it’s already looking very nice, almost restored to original conditions. Trying to do a very professional job, so even if it’s not perfect, it looks good without further inspection. The paint does stink though. The mildew problem I used to have in the kitchen — which is mostly gone after much concentrated bleach and lots of scrubbing — kind of did some damage to the finish. Figure it’s better painted then rusted.

Been working hard lately — a half hour a few times a week — to clean my apartment. I think I’m going to stay there for a few more years, and it’s better not to have it look so dirty and run down. The new vacuum cleaner and with some help from brush-in carpet cleaner, really is getting the stains out of the carpets and just reducing the dust load a lot. Little things, like dusting shelves make sure a big difference. No more cob webs either.. I occasionally have company over and it’s nice to have things looking nice.

Been wanting to move the USB port that powers my dash board camera and cellphone to a different place in my truck, hooked up to the same switch as the CB radio, but that has yet to happen. I did find the wire endings the other day, so I know where to splice in. I want to make sure I have better power source for the dash board camera, as sometimes I find I’ve been losing my dash camera recordings on backroads — and that’s where they are mos

In four weeks on February 25 the sun will be setting at 5:40 pm, which is 36 minutes later then today. In 2016 on that day, we had fog, rain, snow and temperatures between 58 and 33 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 20 degrees. The record high of 67 degrees was set back in 1976.

Looking ahead, Average High is 40 is in 5 weeks, Average High is 50 is in 2 months, April Fools Day is in 9 weeks and Arbor Day is in 3 months.

January 26, 2017 8 AM Update

The corrosive weather of the rust belt continues today with cloudy skies and saltย encrustedย everythingย with temperatures around 36 degrees on our way towards forty six. Galvanized steel and billions in largess from the New York City somewhat covers up the rust but that road salt ultimately does its damage. On mornings like this you have to wonder why anybody in their right mind would stay in the rust belt. Millions have already left.ย

I did not sleep well last night.ย Maybe that’s why I’m cranky. ย I was in bed by a little after 10 PM but I laid in bed listening to podcasts until after midnight and kept waking up. I guess I should have put the red light on earlier and had less screen time, and taken a sleeping pill. Maybe draw the curtains. I forgot to turn the heat up when I got home last night, so everything we frigid in my apartment by early morning. I hate sleeping in the winter, I find it incredibly difficult. Kept hearing about Trump wasting taxpayer dollars on the stupid wall and going after undocumented immigrants, who just came to our country to work hard scrubbing floors and milking cows, so we can have clean office buildings and delicious milk in our cereal.

Despite the clouds, days are getting noticeably longer.ย ย The sun will set at 5:01 pm with dusk around 5:31 pm, which is 1 minutes and 17 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 47 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 11 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 31 degrees at 6am. 17 degrees above normal. West wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 20 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1994.

As previously noted, next Thursday is Ground Hog Day when the sun will be setting at 5:10 pm with dusk at 5:40 pm. On that day in 2016, we had partly sunny skies and temperatures between 46 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1981.

I’m still giggling over that article that I had some country boys calling Hillary Clinton a mean old heifer. Like all stereotypes, there is a lot of truths about it, even if it’s ugly and awful. Hillary was one of the worse candidates Democrats have had in a generation. That said she was put forward in era of rising expectations by Democratic activists and forced to be a bad candidate by those who pushed her so far to the left. I told people that 2016 was going to be a lot like 1968, and so it turned out to be. Unfortunately for us all, the Republicans nominated a megalomaniac fire cracker that’s going to blow up in all our hands. So be it, we are all victims of the results of our elections. Public policy can always be reversed in future years. ย So far, I’m not a fan of the new President, but that’s not to be expected as a liberal Democrat.

The first chart is up on the blog today. Didn’t work earlier in the morning, but it has been fixed. Minor typo in the code.ย Many others are being worked on, and as I master ChartJS, I expect the diagrams and charts only improve. I’ve been wanting to add charts for a while on the blog but I had to implement and fully test the supporting code. There is a few glitches to fix over the weekend and I hope to further automate the code to make it easier to create new graphs and charts.
