August 24, 2017 8 AM Update

Good morning.Β I was running a bit late for the express bus, but I walked fast and made it there in plenty of time.Β The express bus was running a few minutes late, but I got to ride one of those big articulated (“bendy”) buses downtown. I have never been on one of them before. They do seem to ride rather rough compared to the NOVA and Gillig buses. Seemed rather silly to have such a large bus for so few passengers, but so be it.

Today is expected to be quite a nice day,Β with low humidity and temperatures only expected to reach 75 degrees.Β 63 degrees now, under mostly sunny skies. Maybe a few more clouds later, but in general should be a very pleasant day, with weather feeling more like September then late August. Maybe you’ll want a sweater or a light jacket for this evening, which is coming earlier and earlier each day.

The sun will set at 7:42 pm with dusk around 8:11 pm, which is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly clear conditions and 69 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 52 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2016, we had partly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1940.

Back in 1967, the Yippies of Abbie Hoffman’s Youth International Party temporarily disrupts trading at the New York Stock Exchange by throwing dollar bills from the viewing gallery, causing trading to cease as brokers scramble to grab them. As they say, it’s all about the money.

This weekend, I am thinking of heading up to Piseco-Powley Road.Β I will pack tonight and run to the grocery store to buy some food. Going to be a nice weekend, but not too warm. I don’t have a kayak paddle yet, so I can’t go kayaking, but I might go to Amsterdam on Saturday to get one. Or I might look to see if I can get a larger paddle.

Long range doesn’t look all that great for Labor Day Weekend,Β but I will take it one day at a time. Maybe I will do Moose River this year, or maybe somewhere else like the Green Mountain National Forest. I am not counting on nice weather for that weekend for sure. I also don’t plan to camp in the rain, because I’ve done too much of that this summer.

Looking ahead, next Thursday is 7:30 PM Sunset when the sun will be setting at 7:30 pm with dusk at 7:59 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, cloudy skies and temperatures between 76 and 62 degrees. A rather cool day last year. Who knows what this year will bring. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1953.
