August 13, 2016 Afternoon

Good afternoon!Β Partly cloudy and very muggy with occassional downpours, with the mercury aroundΒ 90 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 75 degrees. The heat index is 103. We will have on and off showers for the next week, leaving 1.31 inches of rain is expected before it ends Thursday around 7 pm. Despite all the mugginess, so far not at lot of rain.

Today, I spent some time working on work stuff at home,Β calculating some spreadsheets and data.Β Then I fixed some code on my blog, including getting the Facebook location code working once again, and some fixes to the weather code. Nothing major. But by mid-afternoon it was pretty hot, so I went down to the library. I drove —Β not just because of the heatΒ but because I honestly didn’t want to get soaked.

I am still thinking about checking out the new Dick’s Sporting Goods / Field and Stream in the old Walmart in Latham this afternoon. I’m still thinking about the Remington 783 deer rifle they have on sale for $289 plus a $40 mail-in rebate. Β It’s a good deal. I don’t know. I am leaning on getting the 30-06 of that if they have it. Also, the .22 ammo sale is pretty good there.Β Or maybe I’ll go up to Thacher Park and just enjoy the cooler air up there, assuming it’s partly clear, as it has been much of the day. And get good ice cream on the way home. The air conditioning in my truck is very refreshing in this weather.

It’s such a weird day. Sometimes it’s blue skies, withΒ times of heavy rain.Β The risk of driving the Adirondack Northway in heavy rain makes me lean against going to Dick’s today. I guess I could go tomorrow. If I had the bad luck of having a delayed sale, it wouldn’t matter — I would end up having to pick up the gun on Thursday, as the three day window is same based on business days. But maybe I should buy other toys first.
