April 30, 2017 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a east-southeast breeze at 9 mph. The skies will clear Tuesday around 11 pm. Enjoy the evening tonight because in 35 more Sundays you’ll be toasting away the year to Auld Lang Syne in much colder conditions.

Tonight will have isolated showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 47 degrees at 10pm. Four degrees above normal. South wind 9 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 44 degrees with periods of rain and drizzle and mist. The record low of 28 occurred back in 2008.

I thought about staying out overnight in my truck at my parent’s house but I figured it would be fairly cold and rainy. I will be out there later in the week to help out as dad recovers from surgery. I like sleeping in the truck but on a cold damp evening like I thought tonight was supposed to be id rather be inside.

That said, it has somewhat of a cleared out in this evening, and my walk was surprisingly pleasant. There was actually a lot of people out walking tonight. Besides an hour hiking up at the Holt Preserve and walking around the back field at my parent’s house, I wanted to do my evening walk as I felt I spent too much time at home this past weekend. I did write a lot of little pieces of code that will make my life easier going forward.

For a while during my evening walk it was clear enough to enjoy the moon and stars. Waxing Crescent Moon tonight with 36% illuminated. The moon will set around 12:52 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly cloudy expected. The Full β€œFlower” Moon is on Wednesday, May 10th. The sun will rise at 5:49 am with the first light at 5:18 am, which is one minute and 22 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 9 hours and 53 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy, with a high of 74 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 4pm. South wind 11 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had rain, drizzle, mist and a high of 54 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1978.

The long range doesn’t look that great for next weekend. Major bummer! Next Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees. Maybe Sunday will be good for hiking.

In four weeks on May 28 the sun will be setting at 8:23 pm, which is 28 minutes and 40 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had shallow fog, mist and temperatures between 93 and 67 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 2016.

Looking ahead, Mother’s Day is in 2 weeks, Father’s Day is in 7 weeks, Buck Moon is in 10 weeks, National Cheese Cake Day is in 2 months, 7 PM Sunset is in 20 weeks, Average High is 60 is in 24 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends is in 27 weeks, Cold Moon is in 31 weeks and New Years Eve is in 35 weeks.

I’m tired and the sun rises early this time of year. Good night. Sleep well.
