April 19, 2017 Night

Good evening! A cold wet rain and 47 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 13 mph. Walking back to my truck after the Save the Pine Bush Dinner I was glad I wasn’t camping. I could be camping but I’m sure it would have been cold and smokey hanging out under the tarp and then I would have retired early to my tent with the Big Buddy Heater roaring but instead I’m stretching out on my bed at home.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 11pm, then patchy drizzle with a chance of showers after midnight. Cloudy, with a low of 45 degrees at 3am. Six degrees above normal. South wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 42 degrees under mostly clear skies. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1875.

Waning Crescent Moon tonight with 44% illuminated. The moon will rise around 12:38 am. The New Moon is next Wednesday. The Full β€œFlower” Moon is in 3 weeks. The sun will rise at 6:05 am with the first light at 5:36 am, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 10 hours and 21 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over last night.

The Save the Pine Bush Dinner was pretty interesting and I learned a lot from Hugh Johnson’s presentation was really interesting. Certainly beated a cold night in the woods and I learned a lot.

Stopped at Walmart on the way home bought some groceries and now are watching Charlie Rose interview Elizabeth Warren. I have my bedroom lit by my camp flag. It’s a decent evening but I wish it was nicer to be camping. I’m sure you nicer days aren’t far away.

Tomorrow will have patchy drizzle with scattered showers before 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 65 degrees at 5pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 46 at 8am. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies and a high of 62 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1941. 5.8 inches of snow fell back in 1947.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

I’m still not sure about my weekend plans and I’m definitely on the fence about going camping. I’m going to compare the forecast for the next two weekends but I should take the week out one with a grain of salt. If it’s decent enough, I really do want to get up the Adirondacks. I would like to do some hiking and fishing and just relaxing by the campfire.

In four weeks on May 17 the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm, which is 30 minutes and 51 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 66 and 40 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 47 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1977.

Looking ahead, Pack Rat Day is in 4 weeks, Flag Day is in 8 weeks, Summer is in 9 weeks and Inaugeration Day 2021 is in 196 weeks. We could be trading in the Trump era for the Cuomo era. Or maybe not.
