Harvey Mountain State Forest

Harvey Mountain State Forest are managed for multiple uses, including timber production, watershed protection, wildlife habitat and recreation. Recreational opportunities include hiking, biking, picnicking, horseback riding (except on foot trails and snowmobile/ski trails when snow covered), camping, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife observation and photography.

Harvey Mountain State Forest also has a lean-to along the trail, as well as a large, unique blueberry patch at the summit of the mountain.

Smells So Good

Beautiful day walking along the trail up Harvey Mountain, highest peak in Columbia County.

Harvey Mountain Road

Deer runs out in the road. And it's gotten a bit grown up, so views are a bit limited from the road now. Still it's a nice drive in rural Columbia County.

Harvey Mountain Lean-To

Well hidden in the woods, is this lean-to, that's only a 3/4 mile back or about 15 minutes from the parking area -- but you'd never it know it based on the lack of use. No real views, but pretty quiet up here except maybe the distant echo from the valley below.

No Barriers to Leaving NY State

There are no walls, guards or vicious pit bulls if you decide to wander through the woods, to leave New York and hike into Massachusetts. Just a simple stone marker. That said, this trail through the woods makes it look like your doing something illicit.
