GeoPackage – Wikipedia

QGIS 3.0 defaults to GPKG files rather then Shapefiles (which are nice in the dense that the table is DBase file but suck because they are in four or five different files).

Somehow I will not be that sad once Shapefiles and a half a dozen other GIS formats are replaced with GeoPackage files.

"An OGC GeoPackage (GPKG) is an open, non-proprietary, platform-independent and standards-based data format for geographic information system implemented as a SQLite database container. Defined by the Open Geospatial Consortium[1] with the backing of the US Military[2] and published in 2014, GeoPackage has seen wide widespread support from various government, commercial, and open source organizations."

February 27, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Tonight is the first 5:45 PM Sunset of the year. Sunny day with blue skies β˜€β˜€β˜€ and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. Some of the best camping weather at least when this falls in November during hunting season. 🦌 There is a west breeze at 5 mph.

Only three weeks remain until the first day of calendar spring!🐸🐣🐝🐞🐜🌺Think spring!

Today will be sunny, with a high of 54 degrees at 3pm.🌞 16 degrees above normal. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon.β›… The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1997. 3.6 inches of snow fell back in 2013.

The sun will set at 5:45 pm with dusk around 6:11 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 51 degrees. 🌄There will be a west-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 34 degrees at 4am.β›… 14 degrees above normal. South wind around 7 mph. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

Yesterday was a fairly quiet day at work, but it was fine. 📃📜📄📰💰The morning was crazy then slow but then the afternoon passed by quickly. Today is expected to be much busier. Last night for once was a quiet evening, cooked dinner and took a stroll down to the library.📚

When I got home, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to write data to the 24LC256 EEPROM memory trip. 💻I struggled a bit how to cast data to and from a byte array. It’s not difficult but I wasn’t really up on how to use void typecasting with pointers. I think I’ve figured it out now. I took a class a decade ago on data structures but I had forgotten half of that stuff as I mostly used higher level languages like perl, PHP and python. You can do some really neat stuff with C# when you figure out how to implement it. β™’βœ΄β‡

Can’t wait for warmer weather and later sunsets to head down to the park after work. Those days are coming relatively soon or so I hope.📖 Driving past Tommell Cattle’s finishing lot🐂 the other day I was noticing how green the winter rye or whatever the cover crop was on some of those fields.🌾🌱 Little rain, little warmth and good fertile soils produce! The more I learn about agriculture the more I I’m fascinated by it. Natural resources management is a fascinating field for sure. 🐄🐷🐓

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. :roll:Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 43.🌞 Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees. Maybe Sunday will be a good day for getting out hiking. I guess I could go campingβ›Ί but I kind of have family obligations once again.👫

I’m really hopeful in the next few weeks, that I can spend a night in the wilderness. 🌲🐻β›Ί But a lot depends on how busy I am with everything going on from work over the next two months. But sometimes it still is possible to get away for a few days.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until First Day of Spring🌻 when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:36 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2017, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 49 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012.🌳🌺

February 26, 2018 Evening

Going home time! Drive safely, I don’t want you tying up traffic delaying my commute home. Mostly clear and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph.

It’s nice having the extra sun in the evening, making the evening commute a little brighter. The bus is running on time but it’s one of the older hybrid busses which smells like ozone from the sparky hybrid motors. Some of the earlier hybrid busses real weren’t the best technology. Maybe that’s what is holding back the all electric busses today. Traffic on the 787 is a bit sluggish but moving. I wish it was a bit warmer but it’s still February for a few more days.

Definitely a nice sunset. Tonight dusk will be around 6:10 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for clear conditions and 44 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph.

Tonight will be clear, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon with 89% illuminated. The moon will set tonight at 4:58 am. The Worm Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 6:34 am with the first light at 6:05 am, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 12 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high of 51 degrees at 2pm. 13 degrees above normal. West wind 5 to 8 mph. Another really nice day. I will walk outside when going over to the Capitol tomorrow. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1997. 3.6 inches of snow fell back in 2013.

In four weeks on March 26 the sun will be setting at 7:15 pm (Daylight Savings Time), which is one hour, 33 minutes and 8 seconds later then today. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, drizzle, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 39 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 49 and 29 degrees. The record high of 74 degrees was set back in 1986.
