October 1, 2017 Night

Good evening! Clear and 51 degrees in Delmar. There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. The dew point is 41 degrees. Definitely cooling off pretty good this evening.

Tonight will be clear, with a low of 39 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Right now I have my windows open upstairs for fresh air but I best close them before bed. In 2016, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1972.
Tonight has a Waxing Gibbous Moon with 92% illuminated. Pretty nice  big moon overhead, made driving home not too bad. The moon will set tonight at 4:18 am. The Hunter Moon is on Thursday night with partly cloudy skies.

The sun will rise at 6:54 am with the first light at 6:26 am, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday.  Mornings are definately pretty dark this time of year. Tonight will have 12 hours and 19 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high of 64 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1927. There was a dusting of snow in 1899.

Next weekend looks like it might be perfect weather-wise. Next Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 44 at 8pm. Next Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 66. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees.

In four weeks on October 29 the sun will be setting at 5:51 pm, which is 44 minutes and 23 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had rain, cloudy skies and temperatures between 53 and 37 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 55 and 36 degrees. The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 1946.

I am just tired. Which I should be because I have the lights dimmed in my apartment except for the red light. It was nice hiking at Thacher Park but it turned out to be a busier day then expected, especially after spending multiple hours searching for my camera battery charger. I ended up just ordering another one online. I should have it before my road trip, it was $10 and I’ve turned my apartment upside down searching for it. Got grocery shopping so I will have supplies for most of the week.  Cooked dinner for dad and did my wash at his house. Now I’m off to bed.

Looking ahead, Christmas Eve is in 12 weeks, New Years Day 2018 is in 3 months and 35th Birthday is in 17 weeks.

Good night!

Puerto Rico is all our worst fears about Trump coming real

Puerto Rico is all our worst fears about Trump coming real

"For the first nine months of his administration, observers have had occasion to wonder β€” and wonder, and wonder, and wonder β€” how exactly Donald Trump would manage to handle a real crisis imposed by external events rather than his own impulsiveness. The answer is now apparent in the blackened streets of San Juan and the villages of interior Puerto Rico that more than a week after Hurricane Maria struck remain without access to food or clean water."

"To an extent, the United States of America held up surprisingly well from Inauguration Day until September 20th or so. The ongoing degradation of American civic institutions, at a minimum, did not have an immediate negative impact on the typical person’s life."

"But the world is beginning to draw a straight line from the devastation in Puerto Rico straight to the White House. Trump’s instinct so far is to turn the island’s devastation into another front in culture war politics, a strategy that could help his own political career survive."
