September 22, 2017 Evening

Happy Weekend! Mostly clear and 77 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 50 degrees. Definitely a really nice evening. A few more things to pack then it’s off to Moose River Plains. I decided to take the bus home and leave from home because that way I would be leaving after rush hour and no matter how early I left I would be driving most of the way after dark. I have headlights and I’ll take lots of caffeine and will keep my eyes peeled for wildlife.

The sun will set at 6:51 pm with dusk around 7:19 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 73 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 8 mph.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 52 at 7pm. North wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2016, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon with 16% illuminated, setting at 8:59 pm. The moon will rise tomorrow at 11:02 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with scattered showers. The Hunter Moon is on Thursday, October 5th. The sun will rise at 6:43 am with the first light at 6:15 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 11 hours and 53 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. North wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1895. A little bit more humid but overall a nice weekend ahead.

Looking ahead to Sunday, patchy fog between 7am and 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. Maximum dew point of 69 at 9pm. That’s going to be obnoxiously sticky but hopefully not as bad up north. Plus I have a lot of cold beer to drink. Nothing like your normal fall weekend.  Typical average high for the weekend is 69 degrees.

I have Monday off so I’m not coming back until that evening. Probably not really early on Monday either but that could change. Hopefully it will be very relaxing up north at the Moose River Recreation area. I have the kayak, my shotgun, fishing pole, books and podcasts to enjoy. Not much in cell service up that way but I have lots of interesting content scheduled to keep you entertained.

You got to get out and enjoy the nice weather, because it ain’t expected to last long. Cooler weather pushes in next Thursday and it may only reach the upper 50s or low 60s by next weekend. October is just around the corner.

In four weeks on October 20 the sun will be setting at 6:04 pm, which is 47 minutes and 18 seconds earlier then today. In 2016 on that day, we had rain, fog, shallow fog, patches of fog, mist, in the vicinity there was thunderstorm, cloudy skies and temperatures between 60 and 44 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 58 and 38 degrees. The record high of 80 degrees was set back in 1965.

Looking ahead, Beaver Moon is in 6 weeks.

Nixon’s Basic Income Plan

Nixon’s Basic Income Plan

"[In 1969], Richard Nixon was on the verge of making these economists’ dream a reality by enacting an unconditional income for all poor families. It would have been a massive step forward in the War on Poverty, guaranteeing a family of four $1,600 a year, equivalent to roughly $10,000 in 2016."

"First, however, Nixon needed some evidence. Tens of millions of dollars were budgeted to provide a basic income for more than 8,500 Americans in cities around the country. The researchers wanted to answer three questions: (1) Would people work significantly less with a guaranteed income?; (2) Would the program cost too much?; and (3) Would it prove politically unfeasible?"

"The answers were no, no, and maybe."

September 22, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy Autumn! Once the sun rises a bit more it will be  sunny and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. The dew point is 52 degrees.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 8am. North wind 6 to 9 mph. Nice day ahead, not too humid. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1895.

Chomping down on breakfast, thinking about the day ahead. I am mostly packed for tonight, but I will have to pack the food later. And some miscellaneous stuff. I’m not crazy about driving up there after dark, but I’ve done it before and with due caution I should be fine. It will be nice to hopefully awake tomorrow morning in the woods full of color, and then enjoy a beautiful second day of autumn, with warm temperatures expected all day in the 80s.

Now that autumn is underway, the mornings definitely seem darker. While I don’t live in a basement here in Demar the tree line tends to delay the sunrise a bit, and I get up before seven most mornings.
