August 19, 2017 7 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Next Saturday is National Dog Day. Partly sunny and 67 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees.

Today I’m off to Pennsylvania and the Allegheny National Forest. I plan to stop at several parks and historic sites along the way. Monday it’s out to Erie Penna to see the solar eclipse then Tuesday and Wednesday its back to the Finger Lakes to swim and enjoy the gorges as summer starts to wind down.

Light west wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1899.

The sun will set at 7:49 pm with dusk around 8:19 pm, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly clear conditions and 77 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over yesterday.

On this day in 1955, severe flooding across the northeastern portion of our country caused by Hurricane Diane claims 200 lives. Mostly forgotten now, it devesated the Poconos of Pennsylvania, along with much of Connecticut and Massachusetts as rivers overflowed their banks and dams failed.

As previously noted, next Saturday is National Dog Day when the sun will be setting at 7:38 pm with dusk at 8:08 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, mist, mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 87 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1948.
