Happy Weekend! Partly cloudy and 82 degrees in City of Albany. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 66 degrees. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 10 pm. Not a terrible week, despite being short, but I am glad it is over.

I decided to take the express bus in today but it was raining and I couldn’t find my rain coat so I was running late, so I drove down to the Park and Ride. I did find my rain coat so that’s good. But dropping my phone on the concrete while I was stumbling around wasn’t so cool.

Smashed my cellphone screen getting onto the bus this morning. It just slipped out of my hand and fell on the concrete. If I hadn’t decided to drive down to the Park and Ride, this wouldn’t have happened but it did. I don’t care that much, I was thinking about replacing my phone next week with one that had more memory, so I could install more apps like Uber and so I’d have the ability to take decent pictures agin.. I’m also looking at getting a 4G LTE phone, because it will be much quicker then my current 3G phone. It has to have an FM radio tuner, that’s a priority. I can order it this weekend and pick it up on Monday at FedEx.

The upside of the week is I found my camera. I also found my headphones and subsequently lost them. I have this old pair but they are not real comfortable. I have two lost pairs floating around my apartment, I’m sure I’ll find them soon.

I’m going to watch the weekend weather before making any plans.I want to get a good night’s sleep tonight but I could camp tomorrow but I’m a bit undecided. Maybe I just do a day hike or maybe I’ll stay in town. I got to try to get my budget aligned again.

The sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 75 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph.

This afternoon will have isolated showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Typical for this afternoon. Maximum dew point of 66 at 4pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had rain, mist, mostly cloudy skies and a high of 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 94% illuminated. The moon will rise around 6:39 pm and set around 5:55 am. The Full “Buck” Moon is on Sunday night with mostly clear skies expected and partly cloudy. The sun will rise at 5:25 am with the first light at 4:51 am, which is 42 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 8 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 5 seconds over last night.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 66 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, it got down to 68 degrees with rain and mist and mostly cloudy skies. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1969.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 81. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Maximum dew point of 58 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

In four weeks on August 4 the sun will be setting at 8:10 pm, which is 24 minutes earlier then today. In 2016 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 84 and 59 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1955.

Looking ahead, National Nude Day is Next Friday, Strugeon Moon is in 1 months, September 1st is in 8 weeks, Autumn Begins is in 11 weeks and Election Day 2017 is in 4 months.

Andrew Cuomo Could Beat Trump … If He Can Win Over the Left First

"Crack open Andrew Cuomo, and you won’t find Ted Kennedy. You probably won’t even find Mario Cuomo, someone who treated Albany like it was the Athenian agora. But you will find someone consumed with winning, who throttles anyone who looks like he or she might stand in the way of that winning. Is Cuomo really a warrior for social justice? Maybe, but probably not, but if you get a higher minimum wage and paid family leave and free college and same-sex marriage and gun control and a fracking ban and the first reversal of harsh Rockefeller-era drug laws in four decades, who cares?"

The primary purposes of the Wickham Marsh Wildlife Management (WMA) are for wildlife management, wildlife habitat management, and wildlife-dependent recreation. The area encompasses 862 acres. Land purchases for this management area commenced in 1950 with the acquisition of 176 acres from the Watson Estate and were completed in 1970 with the additions of 136 acres from Loyola Villa and 370 acres from the Mattig Corporation. The habitat presently includes a remnant of the Pine Barrens ecosystem of pitch pine, scrub oak, sweet fern, and blueberry, as well as invading white pine, grey birch, hazelnut, aspen, cinquefoil and bracken fern.

Inbound City Traffic on Southern Boulevard

The heaviest traffic on Southern Boulevard heading into the city is at the 7 AM and 8 AM rush hour. Due the location of the stop lights and the slip ramp onto Interstate 787, Southern Boulevard is able to move traffic more efficiently into the city then out of it -- more cars head into the city at those hours then in the evening commute, which is spread out over more hours. Also of note -- there is an influx of traffic heading into the city at rush hour. Some of that may be from employees leaving the Thruway Headquarters and getting on the Thruway or I-787 to get home, some may be students being picked up from school, others may be people getting onto the Thruway from Glenmont or the Port of Albany.

The Big Indian Wilderness Area encompasses over 33,500 acres of "Forever Wild" Forest Preserve lands in the heart of the Catskill Park. Wilderness, in contrast to areas where man and his works dominate the landscape, is where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain.

In fact, the Big Indian Wilderness Area provides the user with the longest stretch of trail through uninterrupted virgin forest in the Catskills, offering numerous opportunities for solitude in a remote and rugged environment.
