Good evening! Partly cloudy and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. The rain stopped but it is still rather wet out. There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear Thursday around noontime.

Watching the PBS Newshour and laying in bed. Tomorrow morning will be here before you know it and I wanted to be informed on the weekends developments.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 53 degrees at 3am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 11pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 65 degrees with thunderstorm and thunderstorm rain and rain and mist and partly cloudy skies. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1967.

Waxing Crescent Moon tonight with 33% illuminated. The moon will set around 12:37 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with partly cloudy skies expected. Might be pretty. The Full “Strawberry” Moon is on Friday, June 9th. The sun will rise at 5:21 am with the first light at 4:47 am, which is 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 8 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 21 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 5pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 67 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. South wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had thunderstorm, thunderstorm rain, rain, mist, partly cloudy skies and a high of 84 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1987.

A bit cool next weekend but maybe fairly nice. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 58 at 7am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees. I might go camping, I’ll think about it some more. Things will be quite wet compared with even more rain coming up this week. I want to get the oil change done before my next my next out of town trip.

In four weeks on June 26 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm, which is 12 minutes and 36 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 90 and 65 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 59 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1952.

Looking ahead, National Lasagna Day is in 2 months, Mutts Day is in 9 weeks, Strugeon Moon is in 10 weeks, Labor Day is in 14 weeks, September 11th is in 15 weeks, More Night Then Day in Albany is in 17 weeks, Columbus Day is in 19 weeks, Christmas is in 30 weeks, January 1, 2018 is in 31 weeks and 35th Birthday is in 8 months.

Campsite After Dark

My campsite after dark, although not dark enough to see the laser light show. Roaring campfire, lit up flags, patriotic lights.

The first part of this video is rather blurry, but so be it. The focus wasn't right on the camera, but it improves as the video continues.

Daily Departure from Normal, January 1 – May 28, 2017

Warm nights and some warm days mean that 2017 so far has been one of the warmest years on record. While we had some cold periods, overall with mild nights compared to average, most days ended up being warmer then the historical 1980-2010 records. Climate change hasn't stopped changing the weather to being more mild in Albany, especially at night, even if we haven't broken that many high temperature records for the year.

People say selfie sticks are rather silly, if not narcissistic. I don’t know, I find it a helpful aid for taking pictures and not just with my smart phone which has a rather crappy camera. The Selfie Stick not only provides a better angle for taking pictures or videos of myself, it also provides a handy mount for holding the camera, allowing me to get it up higher and more to where I want to take pictures. It allows me to hold the camera, focus in on myself when talking and making videos. Or even hang it out of a fire tower or other structure, where I couldn’t reach without the selfie stick.

I think I paid $16 including tax for my “Original Selfie Stick” at Walmart. I probably could have gotten it cheaper on the Internet, but it does what I need and some stuff I don’t need like a bluetooth control button. It seems fairly sturdy, and I expect I will get quite a bit of use it out of it during the next few years, especially are continue to make up more videos which I will share on Youtube and other places.
