Nobody at the Preserve

It just amazes me on a beautiful day like Saturday afternoon, there was not a sole to be seen at Blueberry Hill, despite the crowds to see the jester and clown at the Lupine Festival at the Discovery Center.

You’re Not Wanted

Police Forces Are Sending A Message To Black Suburban Residents: You’re Not Wanted

"It was a familiar story in Troy β€” where, over the last six years, at least seven black residents have been acquitted of resisting arrest and then paid by the city over claims of police brutality β€” and evidence of a nationwide trend driven by demographic shifts shaking the country. As black and brown people leave major cities to raise families in areas that were once predominantly white, they’re encountering police departments that are slow to reflect those population shifts and all too eager to placate longtime white residents who equate change with rising crime. To those white residents, the officers serve as a final line of defense against the outsiders marching onto their land, uniformed allies paid to protect them from the dangers they feel closing in around them."

May 21, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to Father’s Day. Cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

A rather cloudy start to our day but more sun is expected later. I woke up and then went back to sleep. I’ve been staying up too late lately and needed to catch up on sleep.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. One degree below normal. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had rain, patches of fog, cloudy skies and a high of 69 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1941. There was a dusting of snow in 1895.

The sun will set at 8:17 pm with dusk around 8:50 pm, which is 59 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 64 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly after 3am. Cloudy, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal. South wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 54 degrees with rain and drizzle and mostly cloudy skies. The record low of 33 occurred back in 2002.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Father’s Day when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2016, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 86 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1957.

Today is the Save the Pine Bush Wildflower hike. Should be a lot of great wildflowers out now, there were plenty yes on my walk. One PM today. Hopefully more sun by then.

Today I should go through my camping gear and start packing. Just a lot of little things to do so I’m ready to leave on Friday next week.
