Good evening! Partly sunny and 62 degrees in the City of Albany. There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. Worked out to be a little warmer then I expected, with the mercury reaching 65 degrees by mid-afternoon but feels a bit chilly now with the wind downtown.

The sun will set at 7:40 pm with dusk around 8:09 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 55 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. It might be a nice evening at the park, but I’m worried with the wind, it might get a bit chilly. I also got to consider what I make for dinner, which might take a while. If I make burgers, if will take a bit.

I think I might try cooking out back on the camp stove assuming that it’s not too windy and I decide on burgers when I get home. I’ll have to think about it more. I am out of beer but I could always judge the walk down to the gas station with its beer cave. Although I don’t know, I’m a bit tired.

I noticed that the headlights are dim and the inside lights are off on the bus, so I wonder if it has a bad alternator although I don’t know. We are making good progress home with light traffic and the bus seems to be running fine. Clearly the air compression tanks are working fine and I think that the pumps are electric. So I don’t know.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. One degree below normal. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2016, it got down to 40 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1948.

Waning Gibbous Moon tonight with 57% illuminated. The moon will rise around 11:23 pm. The Last Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with chance of showers expected. The Full “Flower” Moon is on Wednesday, May 10th. The sun will rise at 6:08 am with the first light at 5:38 am, which is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 10 hours and 26 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high of 60 degrees at 4pm. Typical temperature for this time of year. North wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies and a high of 78 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1976. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 1887.

While a few degrees below normal, it looks like the weekend will be nice. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 58. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 60.Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

In four weeks on May 15 the sun will be setting at 8:11 pm, which is 31 minutes and 7 seconds later then today. In 2016 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 52 and 39 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 47 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1900.

Looking ahead, May Day is in 2 weeks, Pack Rat Day is a month away. and Memorial Day is in 6 weeks.

Map: Mason Lake

This updated map contains the exact locations of campsites and boat launches along Mason Lake based on the DEC's GPS-based survey of the campsites last fall. While previous maps that I made up using heads-up digitizing and my own notes were fairly accurate, this map takes it up a notch.

NYS GIS Clearinghouse – NYS DEC

The NYSDEC has posted updated trail, roads, asset (campsite/leanto/parking-area), and land shapefiles as of April 7, 2017. If you do GIS stuff, you may want to update your files. There are some big updates to their files, as the DEC has been doing a lot more GPSing over the past summer into the winter.

Good morning. Up to 59 degrees here in Delmar on our way up to 63 degrees. Going to be sunny today and after yesterday’s warmth the trees are starting to bloom up in the city. I always like seeing the green. In four weeks it will green up in the Adirondacks I’m sure.

Got home this morning after spending the night in my truck at my parents house, and found my trash can lid blown across the lawn and trash can in the neighbor’s yard. Now that I got to the transfer station and the cans are empty, I need to throw some weight in them, and make sure I kip the lids bungee-cord down nice and tight. Going to continue to be windy the next few days, but at least things are greening up.

It appears that today and tomorrow will be the nicest days of the week, not the days I took off. I’m bummed out about that although I look forward to sleeping in and drinking at home, going trout fishing locally, doing the Pine Bush Dinner on Wednesday and hopefully going up to the Southern Adirondacks from Friday through Sunday. I know a few campsites that won’t be muddy on black top roads that I can get up to. May hike a mountain on Saturday. Not going to be a big camping trip to the North Country, but I’m sure I’ll get back up there some time this summer. I have enough time off to take some more long weekends for road trips this year.

I’m still a bit bitter about this but April weather isn’t always great for camping. At least my truck is ready for the camping season although I need to check the tire pressure as I think one of the tires is a bit low — but my tire gauge has been misplaced. I’ll stop at a gas station later in the week. Fluids look good though. If I go up on Friday afternoon, I will be setting up in the rain but things should dry out by Friday evening. It might be a damp and cold evening in the woods, but I’ll have my heater and I can get a good campfire going. I have treated firewood that I bought a while back, so I can burn that the first night along with the paper trash I’ll bring up there.

The sun will set at 7:40 pm with dusk around 8:10 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 13 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 32 at 5am; Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. In 2016, it got down to 40 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1948.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until May Day when the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm with dusk at 8:27 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain and temperatures between 54 and 44 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

Good morning! Happy Patriots Day at least for those in Massachusetts. Only two weeks to May Day. Partly cloudy and 52 degrees in Westerlo. Breezy, 18 mph breeze from the west-northwest. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear around 9 am.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high of 54 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal. The warm weather of yesterday is gone but at least it will be sunny. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies and a high of 76 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.
