April 9, 2017 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 53 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. A bit cool in just a t-shirt but reasonably nice for sitting out on the tailgate of my truck, having a beer, listening to the spring peepers. Today got up to 71 degrees and was a generally pleasant spring day.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Probably cold enough to warrant closing the windows although I expect it will warm up quickly tomorrow on the way up to 70. In 2016, it got down to 23 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1974. Fortunately tonight is much nicer than last year.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 93% illuminated. The moon will set around 6:57 am. There is a ton of moonlight, so if you wear a sweater or are crazy like me, a t-shirt, it’s so nice out back. The Full β€œPink” Moon is on Tuesday night with partly cloudy skies expected and chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:21 am with the first light at 5:52 am, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 10 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. 24 degrees above normal. That will be really nice. Maximum dew point of 47 at 5pm. Basically zero humidity. Just wow! South wind 8 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies and a high of 47 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1922. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1961.

I got the low voltage disconnect permanently hooked up and the inverter and solar controller relocated. I am having trouble with the remote control switch, because I misread the instructions and did not wire it correctly, but fortunately I think I actually wired the switch so that all terminals were grounded and none were hot so nothing burned out or shorted. I looked carefully at the wiring diagram but I got confused and misread and grounded the terminals that should have been hot. With no electricity flowing through it I don’t think anyone damage happened. Or so I hope or I may be out $50. I think though everything was just grounded. Which is why the switch did nothing. Drilled out a plastic grommet to run the new thicker power wire back to the truck cap. I should have everything working by next weekend.

Right now, a split verdict on the Easter Weekend. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 50 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 58 degrees.

In four weeks on May 7 the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm, which is 31 minutes and 40 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had fog and temperatures between 66 and 43 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 44 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1930.

Looking ahead, Easter is Next Sunday, Mother’s Day is in 5 weeks and Father’s Day is in 10 weeks.
