March 24, 2017 8 AM Update

Chilly, gray and 31 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. Kind of a chilly walk down to the Park and Ride, especially because I skipped the winter coat in favor of the rain coat, as rain is expected by mid day. 41 degrees by late afternoon.

It’s a Friday as we head into our final week of March. Next Saturday is April Fools Day. I’m hoping that this is the last week for the deicers on the road and that next week we will have all rain which will wash away the snow. I’m still hoping to get out camping in mid April once the snow is gone. And that the rain will stop by next weekend so we have reasonable amount of water in the creeks for trout season.

The sun will set at 7:13 pm with dusk around 7:41 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 12 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 9pm, then a chance of drizzle after 9pm. Cloudy, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 35 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

Traffic is moving well heading downtown, although a Trooper has somebody pulled over on the expressway southbound. I have my camera but pictures aren’t worthwhile on this rather gray morning. I’m ready for winter to melt away.

Woke up fairly early this morning, as I went to bed early and wanted to ensure ample time to walk down to the Park and Ride. I tend to go to bed early which means I wake early in the morning. Sometimes I reset my alarm and go back to bed but not this morning. That said, as the coffee wears off I’m starting to feel a bit drowsy. So be it.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Good Friday when the sun will be setting at 7:37 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm. On that day in 2016, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 58 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 58 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1968.

March 24, 2017 7 AM Update

Good morning! It may be dark but, it’s Friday! Three weeks to Good Friday. Dark and  cloudy this morning and 30 degrees in Delmar. There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. No snow or ice in Delmar but definitely some in the Southern Adirondacks and Green Mountains. Don’t expect much sun, the skies will clear next Wednesday around 10 am.

Today will have a chance of freezing rain, sleet and snow then periods of rain later.  Generally cloudy, with a high of 41 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees below normal. South wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Forget your umbrella, it will be useless. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had rain and a high of 59 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1976. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.
