March 22, 2017 Evening

Good evening! Mostly sunny and 24 degrees in City of Albany. Breezy, 23 mph breeze from the northwest with gusts up to 40 mph. The current wind chill is 9. Absurdly cold for late March, but then again, it is still March, and sometimes it gets cold. At least it’s sunny, and we have more time now in the evenings. I don’t think I will be going to the park this evening. Eventually it will get nice enough to head to the park after work, I”m sure.

Tonight will be clear, with a low of 14 degrees at 4am. 18 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 8 at 6pm; Northwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. In 2016, it got down to 34 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1875.

Waning Crescent Moon tonight with 33% illuminated. The moon will rise around 2:05 am. The New Moon is on Tuesday night with chance of rain then chance of rain/snow expected. The Full β€œPink” Moon is on Tuesday, April 11th. The sun will rise at 6:52 am with the first light at 6:24 am, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 11 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be somewhat warmer, with a high near 34.  Generally, sunny. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. The record high is 80, set back in 1938. The climate normal for Thursday is 47 degrees.

The weekend forecast keeps going downhill, but at least Saturday won’t be that frigid. Saturday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday, snow likely before 11am, then rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees. I guess I better not plan on doing much this weekend. At least it will be warm, so I won’t be spending much on heat.

In four weeks on April 19 the sun will be setting at 7:42 pm, which is 31 minutes and 59 seconds later then today. In 2016 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 65 and 44 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 39 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1976.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 is in 4 weeks, Earth Day is in 1 months, Pack Rat Day is in 8 weeks, Flag Day is in 12 weeks, Summer is in 13 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 is in 200 weeks.

Cold Compared to 2012

Today got up to 26 degrees in Albany. Β In comparison, March 22, 2012 reached 81 degrees. That’s 55 degrees warmer then today.

March 22, 2017 9 AM Update

While one would not realize it on this rather brisk morning, today marks four weeks until the average high is at least 60. It is 26 degrees with the wind whipping around with some sun to the south. It’s a pretty chilly morning but I timed things fairly well, so I didn’t have to wait at the bus stop.

I wish I had I had turned the heat up before I went to bed because it was cold when I got up but things warmed up quickly because it’s cold out but still lacks the cold of January. I did leave the heat turned up a bit before I left so it won’t take too long to warm up when I get home this evening. We are only getting a few degrees warmer as the day progresses and that stiff wind is expected to continue.

I tried yet another type of waffle mix this morning. It was the Krutez Waffle Mix. I now have that along with a whole grain waffles mix and corn muffin mix that I use in the waffle maker. It’s good to mix it up different days and I figured I would experiment with which waffle mix I like the best. I think I prefer the whole grain waffle mix, as it has nice texture and works well with fresh fruit on top. I like the corn waffles better, but I don’t think it quite works taste-wise with the fruit.

If it going to be warm on Saturday and the precipitationΒ holds off, I might wire up the low voltage disconnect,Β although at the same time I think I should run back the new power wire back to the truck cap — because I think it’s probably easier to hook all of the wiring up at once. I will see how the weather is. At some point it’s going to be nice, and I’m going to want to get out camping and not spending my time hooking up wires at home. Then again, there is a lot of summer remaining, and I don’t expect at this point to get out camping before Easter Weekend, at the earliest.

The sun will set at 7:10 pm with dusk around 7:38 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 12 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be clear, with a low of 12 degrees at 6am. 16 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 8 at 7pm; Northwest wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. In 2016, it got down to 34 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1875.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High is 60 when the sun will be setting at 7:42 pm with dusk at 8:12 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain and temperatures between 65 and 44 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1976. By then, at least in the city we should start seeing some green grass. Β In the mountains though, we will have to wait to the first or second week of May to see much green, although it tends to be the most beautiful up there.
