Good evening! Mostly clear and 18 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. Another cold night on tap but not so blustery.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 9 degrees at 3am. 13 degrees below normal. Calm wind. In 2016, it got down to 24 degrees under partly clear skies. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 55% illuminated. The moon will set around 2:20 am. The Full “Worm” Moon is next Sunday. The sun will rise at 6:21 am with the first light at 5:53 am, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 12 hours and 29 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

I thought it was a good weekend. Much too cold but it is the first week of March. Can’t complain too much. Did some cleaning, gave Big Red his bath. Grocery shopping today. Made some more maps, did some research and reading. Sketched out and planned for the low voltage relay and how I will wire up the truck cap with the new switches and dimmer I bought. Went hiking for about two hours at Hannacroix Preserve. Not a bad weekend but I can’t wait to be out camping again.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly sunny skies and a high of 43 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.

A picture perfect weekend for early March next weekend? We can hope. Next Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 38. Next Sunday which is Daylight Savings Time, partly sunny, with a high near 41.Typical average high for the weekend is 42 degrees.

In four weeks on April 2 the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm (Daylight Savings Time), which is one hour, 32 minutes and 19 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 53 and 37 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 52 and 32 degrees. The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 2010.

Looking ahead, Daylight Savings Time is Next Sunday, Patriots Day is in 6 weeks, May Day is in 8 weeks, Cinco de Mayo is in 2 months and Memorial Day is in 12 weeks.

Conscious consumerism is a lie. Here is what you can really do to save the environment. — Quartz

"As a sustainable lifestyle blogger, my job is to make conscious consumerism look good. Over the course of four years Instagramming eco-friendly outfits, testing non-toxic nail polish brands, and writing sustainable city guides, I became a proponent of having it all—fashion, fun, travel, beauty—while still being eco-friendly. So when I was invited to speak on a panel in front of the UN Youth Delegation, the expectation was that I’d dispense wisdom to bright young students about how their personal purchasing choices can help save the world.
I stood behind the dais in a secondhand blouse, recycled polyester tights, and a locally made pencil skirt, took a deep breath, and began to speak."

“Conscious consumerism is a lie. Small steps taken by thoughtful consumers—to recycle, to eat locally, to buy a blouse made of organic cotton instead of polyester—will not change the world.”

Located along the Hannacroix Creek on the Albany/Greene county line in the town of New Baltimore, the Hannacroix Creek Preserve is a hundred and thirteen acre natural area with access for non- motorized activities including walking, cross country skiing, observing nature and just relaxing.

The Preserve was created following the purchase of the Blake, Fischl and Alexy properties by the Open Space Institute (OSI) and is managed by the New Baltimore Conservancy. The 113 acre preserve includes several marked hiking trails leading to a lovely waterfall, scenic vistas and the foundation of a paper mill. There is a trail map at the kiosk at the entrance to the preserve. There is also a trail that leads across route 144 to a boardwalk that is the begining of the Hudson River Interpretive Trail.

Access to the preserve is from a parking area on the west side of Route 144 just south of the Albany/Greene County line.

No motorized vehicles are permitted.

As is customary on a Sunday afternoon, it’s good to look at the week ahead.

You’ll need your umbrella a few days this upcoming week but generally pretty mild, a few degrees above normal.

Nothing too frigid but mornings you will still need a jacket because it’s still winter. The snow risk for next weekend has dwindled but it might be rainy and gray.

Next Sunday starts Daylight Savings Time.

We May Have Unlocked the Mystery of Trump’s Orange Skin

"For nearly 20 years, Trump has had a close personal and business relationship with an Indiana businessman named Steve Hilbert, who in 2006 became CEO of New Sunshine, a maker of tanning beds, spray booths, and Kardashian-branded tanning lotions and bronzers.

Hilbert and Trump have much in common. Both men are 70, have made and lost fortunes, and have cycled through multiple marriages. They enjoy outsize lifestyles and indulge garish decorating tastes. And they share a similar orange skin tone that can result from the use—or overuse—of certain tanning products."
