March 5, 2017 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 18 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. Another cold night on tap but not so blustery.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 9 degrees at 3am. 13 degrees below normal. Calm wind. In 2016, it got down to 24 degrees under partly clear skies. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 55% illuminated. The moon will set around 2:20 am. The Full β€œWorm” Moon is next Sunday. The sun will rise at 6:21 am with the first light at 5:53 am, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 12 hours and 29 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

I thought it was a good weekend. Much too cold but it is the first week of March. Can’t complain too much. Did some cleaning, gave Big Red his bath. Grocery shopping today. Made some more maps, did some research and reading. Sketched out and planned for the low voltage relay and how I will wire up the truck cap with the new switches and dimmer I bought. Went hiking for about two hours at Hannacroix Preserve. Not a bad weekend but I can’t wait to be out camping again.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly sunny skies and a high of 43 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.

A picture perfect weekend for early March next weekend? We can hope. Next Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 38. Next Sunday which is Daylight Savings Time, partly sunny, with a high near 41.Typical average high for the weekend is 42 degrees.

In four weeks on April 2 the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm (Daylight Savings Time), which is one hour, 32 minutes and 19 seconds later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 53 and 37 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 52 and 32 degrees. The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 2010.

Looking ahead, Daylight Savings Time is Next Sunday, Patriots Day is in 6 weeks, May Day is in 8 weeks, Cinco de Mayo is in 2 months and Memorial Day is in 12 weeks.

Conscious consumerism is a lie. Here is what you can really do to save the environment. β€” Quartz

"As a sustainable lifestyle blogger, my job is to make conscious consumerism look good. Over the course of four years Instagramming eco-friendly outfits, testing non-toxic nail polish brands, and writing sustainable city guides, I became a proponent of having it allβ€”fashion, fun, travel, beautyβ€”while still being eco-friendly. So when I was invited to speak on a panel in front of the UN Youth Delegation, the expectation was that I’d dispense wisdom to bright young students about how their personal purchasing choices can help save the world.
I stood behind the dais in a secondhand blouse, recycled polyester tights, and a locally made pencil skirt, took a deep breath, and began to speak."

β€œConscious consumerism is a lie. Small steps taken by thoughtful consumersβ€”to recycle, to eat locally, to buy a blouse made of organic cotton instead of polyesterβ€”will not change the world.”

Nothing too frigid but mornings you will still need a jacket because it’s still winter. The snow risk for next weekend has dwindled but it might be rainy and gray.
