February 20, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy Presidents Day in the State of New York or as the federal government calls it, Washington’s Birthday. Mostly sunny and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Not a half had morning for Presidents Day.

Today, George Washington’s Birthday, will be sunny, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal. North wind 9 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had rain, snow and a high of 62 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1930. 11.2 inches of snow fell back in 1978.

Today is going to a nice but cooler then the earlier part of the long weekend. Looking at going up to the Catskills and ski the Kaaterskill Rail Trail. Then out to the escarptment. Should be a nice day. I’m on the fence about washing my truck before going up there as the windows are hard to see out. I would also like to get the salt off but I’m sure there still is a lot of salt in the Catskills.

The sun will set at 5:34 pm with dusk around 6:03 pm, which is 1 minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 10 hours and 51 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2016, it got down to 32 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of -10 occurred back in 2015. It still sometimes gets cold in Albany.

Looking ahead to springtime, there are 8 weeks until Patriots Day when the sun will be setting at 7:40 pm with dusk at 8:10 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2016, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 76 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 59 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 2002. I am all in favor of weather like that.

Have a great day!
