Coffee at Night

In the winter months with all the artificial light, I have a lot of trouble sleeping. That said, if I use the red light in my bedroom and try to get into bed by 9:30 or 10 PM at night, it does help.

Last night, driving back from Warrensburg I stopped and got some coffee. It kept me awake on the expressway, but gawd did I keep waking up all night long. I did get to bed relatively early but come two or three AM, I found myself searching for podcasts to past the time.

January 14, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Mostly sunny and 18 degrees in socialist Delmar. Calm wind. Some sun peaking out from the south but not a lot. Just kind of a lazy Saturday morning but so be it. I got to get to the dry cleaners this morning and run some errands. I am right now heating up breakfast. Soon I’ll take a shower and get my day going.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high of 30 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. More sub later in the day. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had snow and a high of 31 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1932. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1999.

The sun will set at 4:46 pm with dusk around 5:17 pm, which is 1 minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 24 minutes of daylight, an increase of 1 minute and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low of 24 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. South wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable. In 2016, it got down to 23 degrees under cloudy skies. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1957.

Still not sure if I’m going camping tomorrow. I doubt it even though in lower elevations it will be snow free. Still we have long January nights and temperatures. I think I’d rather sleep in a warm bed at home and think about camping in March when temperatures moderate. It’s just so much work to get ready for camping.

I might instead go hiking on Martin Luther King Day and maybe somewhere locally on Sunday. Tonight I’ll probably go to the store to pick up work clothing then go for a hike in the Albany Pine Bush. I guess it depends how sunny and how much wind there is. This year ain’t as mild as the weather last year.

There is 1 month until Valentines Day when the sun will be setting at 5:26 pm with dusk at 5:55 pm. The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895. Probably won’t be in the sixties for Valentines Day.
