Good evening! Partly cloudy and 41 degrees in the City of Albany. There is a west breeze at 11 mph with gusts up to 21 mph. Mild yes, but certainly chilly downtown with that wind.

That brief snow we got this morning was pretty, but it wasn’t much and didn’t last. I expect more snow in the future but not this week. Thinking about going up to the the Adirondacks this weekend.

Got out of work a little after 5:40 pm and taking the local home. Traffic isn’t too bad this evening and the bus is making good time. Really no complaints about that.

Listening to Charlie Brown’s Christmas album. With less than three weeks to Christmas, the holiday season will be over before you know it. Then we will be into the cold harsh month of January. At least now, I can afford the heat,so I don’t have to freeze at home like I did in years past. Although I still turn it down when I’m at work because there is no sense in wasting energy.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. West wind 7 to 10 mph. Mild but with a breeze. In 2015, it got down to 23 degrees with periods of fog. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1901.

Tonight we have a Waxing Crescent Moon with 43% illuminated. The moon will set around 12:17 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy expected. The Full “Cold” Moon is on Wednesday, December 14th.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 29. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. Chance of precipitation is 30%.Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees. It’s going to feel like January but based on the totality of the weather forecast I may go camping – it will be sunny on Saturday and not too windy. I would like to get out of town, if only for a change of pace.

In four weeks on January 2 the sun will be setting at 4:33 pm, which is 12 minutes later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 35 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 16 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1890.

In 14 weeks, on Monday, March 13th, the sun will be setting at 7:00 PM in Albany. The average temperature is 43 degrees, although in 2012 on that day it got up to 72 degrees.

And in case your curious, Daylight Savings Time starts on March 12, 2017.

Good Monday Morning!  Six weeks to Martin Luther King Day. Snow and 31 degrees in Delmar. There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. Snow is pushing out to the north east and will be ending shortly. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

Today will rain and snow before 11am, then a chance of rain between 11am and 5pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow after 5pm. High of 42 degrees at 2pm. Despite the snow, two degrees above normal. South wind around 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies and a high of 47 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 2001. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1902.

Definitely a cold and gray December day. I think this is the first snow of the year but the roads are just wet. I put my suit on for work as members are back in town. I don’t know if I will get out of work at five to take the express bus home but that’s fine. I’m not in a rush to get home, because by the time I’m home, it will be pitch black. In other words, it’s winter.

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 7 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 11 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 1 minutes and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 29 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. In 2015, it got down to 23 degrees with periods of fog. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1901.

As previously noted, there are 6 weeks until Martin Luther King Day when the sun will be setting at 4:49 pm with dusk at 5:20 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, snow and temperatures between 40 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 1995.

Installed a new smoke alarm in my apartment because I noticed that old one was malfunctioning. I could have called the landlord and had him do it, but I wanted one with a silence mode for when things start smoking when cooking. My stove burners smoke a little when I have a big pot on them and it’s annoying to have to kill all the power to everything upstairs as the provided alarm is hard-wired. It also doesn’t work during a power failure.  I didn’t want to be without a working smoke detector because something like 3 out of 4 people who die in house fires because of a lack of defectors. And heck it was $8 and took five minutes to install.

Feeling fairly well rested this morning, although I was a bit groggy when I first got up. Such a dark morning with the snow. The one thing I forgot to buy this weekend was more coffee but I should have enough at home for the week, and if not, Stewart’s sells cans of coffee and they are only a buck more then the grocery store.
