October 29, 2016 10 PM Update

Good evening! Cloudy and 53 degrees in North Syracuse. There is a west breeze at 11 mph. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear Monday around 11 am.

Finally got the hard drive enclosure and my hard drive from my dead laptop up and running, so I have my files back. That makes me happy. I had a fear I could have lost many or most of them when the power supply blew out on the laptop. Saw a nice ThinkPad at Office Max that I’m researching as a replacement laptop. I saw an alternative model from Staples with an SSD drive and a high resolution 1920×1080 built in touch screen.  that would be perfect for map making. At $620, a little more than budgeted for but I wouldn’t have to upgrade the Hard Drive to SSD right away as it comes with it. I got to research the reviews and Linux compatibility further before I make the jump. Maybe next week though as it would be a great tool for map making.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm. Otherwise mostly cloudy and very mild.  Low of 48 degrees at 5am. 11 degrees above normal. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. One year ago, partly cloudy with a low around 37. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

Waning Crescent Moon tonight with 3% illuminated. The moon will rise around 6:08 am. The New Moon will be tomorrow with chance of showers then mostly cloudy skies expected. The Full β€œBeaver” Moon is on Sunday, December 4th.

Tomorrow will have rain likely, mainly between noon and 3pm. Otherwise cloudy and cool. High of 49 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Last year, partly cloudy with a high around 54. The record high of 80 was set in 1946. There was 0.1 inches of snow back in 1925.

In four weeks on November 26 the sun will be setting at 4:32 pm (Standard Time), which is 1 hour and 26 minutes earlier then tonight. That is Black Friday aka Buy Nothing Day. The average high is 44 degrees, and the record for that date is 67 degrees was set back in 1979.

There are 8 days, 23 hours and 6 minutes until the polls close in NY State on Election Day.

October 29, 2016 Morning

Good afternoon! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Some drizzle is coming down but at least it’s warmer at 52 degrees in North Syracuse. There is a south breeze at 10 mph. Three months out from my 34th Birthday. So wish me a Happy Birthday.

Another damp and wet Saturday. This weekend isn’t going to be a great one, but we will get up to 60 degrees. Cooler then last year, but still above normal. When I was in Price Chopper this morning buying more fruit and milk for breakfast, it started to pour. It was so loud on the roof of the grocery store. Milk is super cheap these days, when you can buy a gallon for $2. Blueberries were also on sale.

Today will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then scattered showers and thunderstorms between noon and 2pm, then scattered showers after 2pm. High of 60 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6pm. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Last year, mostly cloudy with a high around 70. The record high of 77 was set in 1946. There was 3.8 inches of snow back in 2011.

The sun will set at 5:59 pm with dusk around 6:28 pm, which is 1 minutes and 22 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 10 hours and 21 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly before 10pm. Low of 51 degrees at 5am. 11 degrees above normal. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. One year ago, partly cloudy with a low around 37. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

There are 3 weeks until Regular Season Opens in Southern Zone when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:07 pm (Standard Time). The average high temperature is 47 degrees, with a record high of 71 in 1921.

There are 9 days, 9 hours and 35 minutes until the polls close in NY State on Election Day. Tick. Tick. Tick.

October 28, 2016 Afternoon

Sunday, a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 50. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Typical average high for the weekend is 55 degrees.

October 28, 2016 Morning

Good afternoon! Today is a sweet day. Friday and it’s National Chocolate Day. Cloudy and 41 degrees in North Syracuse. There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. The skies will clear around 6 pm. Still pretty cold and drizzly out this morning but without the slop we had yesterday coming down in the sky.

Certainly not a nice day. Kind of wet driving to work today. Not a downpour but just so drizzly. Roads didn’t seem as slick as last night, but I also was a lot more careful driving in this morning. The weekend will warmer but just as drizzly. Leaves are rapidly falling.

Today as I’m not working my laptop so hard, it’s been running a lot cooler. No more burning smell anymore — I guess the dust has burnt off. The fan speed according to the indicator has dropped, and core temperatures are around 54 C with the battery only running at 50 C. When I work it hard, the temperatures do increase a fair amount to as much as 80-90 C . Which is really warm, but based on what I’ve read isn’t unusually hot for my particular model of think pad. As I work the machine harder and open more windows it does start to raise the temperature.

Still hoping to get the hard drive enclosure, so I can get my old files today. We will see if it comes. Annoyed that it was delayed, and maybe I should have just gotten it at OfficeMax, but it would have probably cost twice as much, and I wouldn’t have been able to read the reviews to know if I got a good quality product.

This weekend I plan to sit down and work on my November road trip. I think I know where I want to go — Western NY and then dip down into Pennsylvania a bit — but I still need to firm up my plans some more. Thinking about at least a night or two at the Finger Lakes National Forest then camping in a half dozen different state forests in Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua County. i know I posted one routing a few days ago, but I am thinking of further changes to my plans.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Otherwise kind of cloudy and depressing. Remaining cool too. High of 45 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees below normal. Northwest wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Last year, cloudy with a high around 56. The record high of 78 was set in 1971. There was 2 inches of snow back in 1952.

The sun will set at 6:00 pm with dusk around 6:29 pm, which is 1 minutes and 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. Last day of the year in Syracuse with a sunset after 6 PM. Going to be cloudy though, so it will get dark early. Already the sun has set before six in Albany, actually going on a week or so. Today will have 10 hours and 24 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with low of 38 degrees at 1am. Two degrees above normal. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph after midnight. One year ago, we the same exact conditions. Generally, late October weather. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1969.

In 1956, Elvis Presley receives a polio vaccination on national TV. This single event is credited with raising immunization levels in the United States from 0.6% to over 80% in just six months. Talk about a celebrity making a change for good. Nowadays, polio is almost entirely eradicated from the population.

There are 2 weeks until Veterans Day when the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm with dusk at 5:13 pm (Standard Time). The average high temperature is 50 degrees, with a record high of 70 in 2002. Come November, you don’t get a lot of very warm days. But I should be on my road trip at that point and hopefully I will have good weather.

There are 10 days, 10 hours and 3 minutes until the polls close in NY State on Election Day. It keeps ticking away. I’ll be glad when it’s over. It’s been a long election-cycle.

Judicial nullification is an important check on our government. Citizens have the right to object to unjust laws by refusing to convict persons under unjust laws.

The federal government locks up too much public land as wilderness. The public has the right to object to the mismanagement of public lands by out of touch bureaucrats.

They held their protest, nobody was hurt, while some government bureaucrats had to work elsewhere, they did raise some important concerns about the mismanagement of public lands.
