October 16, 2016 Night

Made up a new batch of maps for the blog. Some are replacement maps and some are new. Most are much higher quality and better visual appearance then the previous versions. A lot in Western NY, with a particular focus on Chautauqua County.

Starting tonight, I’ve switched over to showing coordinates on my maps from degrees-minutes-seconds to decimal degrees, which in the era of GPS and computers are much more common. Degree-minutes-seconds are more artsy and the code to implement them was more complicated, but realistically they are technology that has come and gone over the years.

October 16, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. There are 11 weeks remaining until New Years Day.Β Rapidly becoming mostly cloudy and 70 degrees, here in Cicero, NY. There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph with occassional gusts up to 20mph. The dew point is 54 degrees.

As it warms up, you can start to feel the humidity come in with the unstable weather that will be in control for most of next week, except for a brief respite on Tuesday. Rain expected this afternoon, with a good thunderstorm sometime around 5 pm. For a while, the skies will clear on Tuesday but then more clouds for the second half of the week.

I usually don’t drink much these days, butΒ last night unfortunately was an exception when I got back.Β Little hung over this morning to say the least. I slept in until 9:30 AM but I still feel awful this morning. I think I only had three or maybe four beers. When I was younger I wouldn’t have thought twice.Β But at age 33, those beers add up so much more quickly.Β I guess everybody does recover eventually, as long as you don’t do anything stupid.

I did go for a little walk this morning, but when you feel as sick as I do this morning,Β walking doesn’t really help.Β But it is definately going to be a warm day, even if that means we are going to have a lot of thunderstorms and unstable weather this afternoon.

It wasn’t terrible hiking up Labrador Hollow but the sunset wasn’t only half good with clouds on the western horizon, andΒ lots of crowds on the mountain.Β The moon was on the wrong side of viewing, but I guess that’s fine. Maybe I was just tired and annoyed that I left my headphones home. The moon was on the wrong side of the mountain. But it was still good to get out for a few hours.

Today will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Β  Cloudy, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 3pm. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 3pm. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record high of 88 was set in 1947.

The sun will set at 6:18 pm with dusk around 6:47 pm, which is 1 minutes and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 10 hours and 57 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday. Shorter days are coming rapidly. Daylight Savings Time Ends in three weeks this morning. So come November 6th, set your clock ahead one hour.

Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low of 60 degrees at 6am. 21 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

Today in 1964,Β  China detonates its first nuclear weapon.Β Boom! Now they are a nuclear power like so many other countries in our world, some more stable then others.

There are 23 days, 11 hours and 25 minutes until the polls close in NY State on Election Day.
