August 15, 2016 Evening

Good evening! 12 short weeks from now it will be Election Evening. Cloudy  and 80 degrees in Albany, NY.  Gray kind of like November It will be hunting season then. But with the Big Buddy heater and the lantern the long evenings will still be fun. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Not so humid with a dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 3 pm.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a relatively mild low of 66 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8pm. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1972. The sun will set at 7:55 pm with dusk around 8:25 pm, which is 1 minutes and 29 seconds earlier than yesterday. Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 90% illuminated. The moon will set around 5:48 am. The Full β€œStrugeon” Moon is on Thursday.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 2pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. Light east wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 71 at 4pm. The record high of 97 was set in 1936.

But when we get to that point, the weather will dramatically improve for the second half of the week. It should be nice up on Piseco-Powley Road camping this weekend.

The weekend looks real nice but watch out for thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. But it’s summer. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

In four weeks on September 12 the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm, which is 46 minutes earlier then today. The average high is 74 degrees, and the record for that date is 94 degrees was set back in 1947. It’s amazing to mid September is just four weeks away.

Max Yasgur.

Today is the 47th anniversary of the start of the Woodstock Festival in Bethel. Max Yasgur was the dairy farmer who rented out a portion of his land to the festival.

For the weekend, Saturday afternoon looks to be somewhat muggy but not exceptionally muggy for August. I think it looks like a nice fall weekend.Β

No exceptionally warm temperatures expected this week although nights will be somewhat warmer then normal, making for modestly difficult sleeping (but the humidity should be down a bit):
Tonight will be warm. 67 degrees. 60 normal. 41 record (1972). Partly Cloudy then Slight Chance of Showers.
Tuesday night will be hot. 71 degrees. 60 normal. 40 record (1979). Heavy Rain.

In 1969, the Woodstock Music Festival Opens on Max Yasgur’s at that time very Β large CAFO dairy farm in Bethel, much to the distaste of his neighbors and fellow community members. He was a fairly innovative farm, they processed the raw milk on site and had a delivery service, like Meadowbrook Farms locally in Clarksville. They had some awesome bands in an already mucky farm field which had been leased out because Max’s corn was growing poorly due to the soil moisture that year. Max figured he could turn a profit that rough year, and plow and reseed the crops for the harvest of 1970. Despite the crowds that’s pretty much what happened. Max retired from the dairy business a few years later, in part because so many people refused to by Max Yasgur’s milk over disgust over the problems the festival caused to the region.

On this day in 1970, President Richard Nixon completes the break from the gold standard by ending convertibility of the United States dollar into gold by foreign investors. To this day, gold bugs have had a fixation on this day.

There are 3 weeks until Labor Day when the sun will be setting at 7:21 pm with dusk at 7:49 pm. The average high temperature is 76 degrees, with a record high of 91 in 1973. The unofficial end of summer will be here before you know it.

I’m really hoping for a nice weekend, as I’m hoping to get up to Piseco-Powley Road one last this summer. I don’t know what the weather will be the rest of the weekends this summer, nor do I know my work schedule. But I’m really hopeful for this weekend. It would be wonderful if it was hot and sunny and I could spend a lot of time in the potholers. They’re probably is a decent flow after the heavy rains they got this past weekend in that part of the state.
